  • Mrs Betty? I have the most trouble making spaghetti sauce and was wondering if i added some green pepper would this in any way resemble a spaghetti sauce? it looks amazing! i also make homemade sloppy joes using condensed tomato soup but add ketchup, vinegar and brown sugar instead of tomato sauce. again it looks amazing.

  • @thecountrybaker Yes, I think this would be good spaghetti sauce with some green pepper added. I have Spaghetti with Meat Sauce in bettyskitchen, if you prefer it.

  • My dad was born in 1921 and his mother used to make sassafras or rootbeer for him and his 10 brothers and sisters. Butter and toast buns under broiler with a slice of cheese on one side then add the meat, buns don't get soggy that way and cheese adds extra flavor.

  • @lulugemini That sounds really good!

  • I used to have those same glasses & matching plates with Marylin Monroe on them years ago. I don't even remember what happened to them now as I got rid of my entire Marylin Monroe collection I had. I just noticed that glass & remembered having the exact same ones years ago. :)

  • @1970sarteaga I actually have a lot of Marilyn Monroe memorabilia. I love it!

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen I used to have quite a large collection of Marilyn Monroe memorabilia myself as well as Coca Cola. Then one day I decided I was done collecting ANYTHING cuz all it was collecting was DUST LOL So I sold off both collections. I guess that is what happened to those glasses & plates. My daughter actually collects Marilyn Monroe memorabilia now & she has often said what she would do to have my collection back. My youngest daughter, 21 yrs old, is an avid Elvis memorabilia collector. :)

  • @1970sarteaga Isn't it interesting what people choose to collect? I think everyone should haves ome type of collection (unless it gets to be a burden!).

    --Betty :)

  • married 40 years? was that an arranged marriage as a child? You only look about 40 years. Wow!

  • like the videos....good stuff

  • This may sound like a daft question, but as an Englishman, now living in the north USA,and wanting to send this recipe back to my Brother in the UK, what exactly is Sassafras, not too sure of the spelling there, but at least it didn't show up as an error. As this is not available in the UK, if I knew what it is, then I could suggest a valid alternative.

  • @crushed51 I grew up with sassafras trees all around our farm. All parts of the sassafras tree are very fragrant. I have chewed on stems to get the flavor out of a freshly plucked leaf, but the main use is to dig up the root, clean it and boil it for sassafras tea. it is delightful!

    --Betty :)

  • Wow the cheese and jalapeño one - happy days!

  • Does this kind of sloppy joes fit for Chili dogs as well?

  • These sloppy joes would be good for chili dogs. Or, if you prefer the taste of chili, I have a great chili recipe that you can use over the hot dogs! Thanks for your question!

    --Betty :)

  • What chili recipe would that be? (You have alot of videos online currently) =)

    Thank you for the answer!

  • erm.. is that tomato puree?

can i use blogsne bolognese spagheti sauce?

  • No, it is not tomato puree. It is tomato sauce and tomato soup. Tomato puree will be okay, and yes, you can use the bolognese spaghetti sauce. Thanks for your questions!

    --Betty :)

  • My GOD, you're gorgeous for 40 years of marriage!!!

  • Thank you--I love comments like that!

    --Betty :)

  • oohh.. stop that, she is married..

    hi betty..hehehe..

  • Hi Betty! I made this for dinner tonight...my husband and I LOVED it! It was so delicious! Next time i'll be more daring and put in a little more hot sauce (I only put like 3 drops of it in) Thank you =)

  • That's great! Yes, I think you can probably put a little more than 3 drops of hot sauce it--but that was cautious and wise! I'm so glad you liked the recipe! Thanks for your lovely feedback!

    --Betty :)

  • just had them now they were really really good didnt add quite as much hot sauce not that brave and noone in family into chili too much but we all enjoyed them and yes we all got covered :)

im now going through your other clips for something else to try maybe a sweet

  • I glad you liked the Sloppy Joes--you shouldn't have worried about the chili powder--it all ends up very mild! I have lots of sweets--cookies, cookie sandwiches, cupcakes, cakes, pies--lots to choose from! Thanks for your wonderful feedback!!!

    --Betty :)

  • married for 40 years?? jesus christ are blessed by god with eternal youth?.my wife is 28..hope she looks as young as you do.God bless you betty and your videos are really fun to watch..and you got a nice house.

  • Thank you for your sweet comments! Yes, I will be married 40 years on Jan. 23. Both my husband and I are 60. We both retired recently from the faculty of Eastern KY University, so now we have time to do things like YouTube! (Actually, YouTube is a hobby, but it's kind of turning into a job!!! It's still fun, though. I love dealing with people; I guess it's the teacher in me!)

  • Greeting from Adelaide South Australia. I never knew what a sloppy Joe was until I saw this Vid, very interesting. Not sure I am game enough to have that much hot sauce and chilli in it when i try it though. Cheers!!

  • Hi! You'll love Sloppy Joes!!! They're not really hot at all--nothing like chili. I think you will be disappointed if you cut back on the flavorings! Thanks for trying it anyway!

    --Betty :)

  • when i see hot lousiana sauce or tabasco or any hot sauce my mouth gets wet!..when im out of hot sauce ill go with a table spoon of vinegar just to calm my self down :)

  • Wow! I guess you would need to put a double amount of hot sauce (or more) in any of my recipes! They probably look pretty tame to you!!!

    --Betty :)

  • ymmmmm....yo Betty, you're definitely one pretty and classy lady, and them sloppy joes of yas looked scrumptious! 5 stars for ya and many thanx for the share! = )

  • Thanks for your great comment! I appreciate it so much!

    --Betty :)

  • You are beautiful and I love this video but I don't know how you keep that figure eating cheetos and sandwich spread. I am full figured and have never eaten that much processed food in a day much less one single serving for over 12 years. LOL!

  • Believe it or not, I am *very* disciplined about my eating! Sometimes I garnish a plate or pose accompaniments around a dish, but it's my husband who usually eats them! I always think about calories and fat in everything I eat--I just eat small portions of things that are high in fat/sugar. However, nothing is off-limits! f I want cake, I usually eat a whole apple first and then have a sliver of cake. I am completely satisfied with that and never feel deprived! But I really do watch my weight!

  • You are so "homey"! The kids and I love watching your recipe presentations. Although I have an enormous collection of my own family recipes, your personal touches are interesting and tasty. We love your "down home" accent and would love to know where you are from. Your youtube postings are just lovely . . .

    chadwick and kids

  • Thanks for all of your compliments! They are very sweet. I am from Kentucky (all my life), and I would *love* to have a cosmopolitan accent, but it's just plain country KY. Thanks for all the support you give to my videos! You're great!

    --Betty :)

  • i like how you pronounce bun :P

  • Thant's nice...

    --Betty :)

  • Awesome once again, thanks for sharing! :)

  • You are welcome! I have a posting called Extra Sloppy Sloppy Joes, that shows how I like to serve Sloppy Joes (in case you are interested). Thanks for viewing and commenting!

    --Betty :)

  • I hope making a carrot cake on video isn't too hectic. If so, I'm sure your banana cake is also worth watching, thanks!

  • I will get the ingredients I need for both of them and demonstrate them soon. Thanks for the idea!

    --Betty :)

  • I would like to see the carrot cake recipe on video! Do you use a cream cheese frosting?

  • Yes, I use a cream cheese frosting. I will try to work the carrot cake in by the end of the week!

    --Betty :)

  • Nice to see you using Franks red hot sauce!! Even though its more tangy than hot, I love that stuff! I like to toast the rolls under the broiler. Thanks Betty:)

  • Mmm... the toasty rolls sound great!

    --Betty :)

  • 40 yrs, congratulations!

do you know a simple recipe for carrot cake or banana bread?

i always enjoy your videos. :)

  • Actually, carrot cake is my specialty--I always make it for family get togethers. It's not extremely simple, but well worth the effort. And yes, I have a good, simple recipe for banana bread. Do you want to see these demonstrated or for me just to type them out for you?

Thanks for viewing and for your question!

    --Betty :)

  • He's pretty camera-shy., but I'll ask! BTW, the sloppy Joes came out really well. The camera guy had the one with the Cheddar cheese topping and couldn't resist going back for another!

    --Betty :)

  • Any chance we will ever see the camera guy?? What unusual flavors in sloppy joes.
