  • This only good for very slow airplanes and helicopters.

  • This weapon has little tactical use within todays mindset. They cant face low level cruise which would attack, first your C&C system ,then they would be left blind. Saddam tried it and the stand off capability won out every time. Its a WW2 mindset

  • Tell us what attack helicopter, or other low level threat is immune to a system like this? You're misinformed; Saddam had nothing close to this, and much less the trained, and motivated operators like Iran has. It's a "night, and day difference". Again, look at the the intended purpose of this weapon system. It's to counter low flying attack aircraft, and cruise missiles that are approaching final strike phase...not to shoot down high flying stealth bombers, or ballistic missiles.

  • The radar system is limited since it is a look up and out, not down and around. The disadvantage is range in both lock on and fire. The counter measure is radar seeking moving at XXXX MPH a hundred feet off the ground. To punch a hole they simply overload the system with targets in relation to response time. It would shoot down a slow helo, but who is going to fly one in for a first strike? It is simply short range blanket saturation, like WW2 but with radar which is effected by counter measure.

  • You should have watched the video a little with a little more open mindedness. The gun has an advanced opto-electronic system that is of course non emitting, so it can't be detected or counter measured, and works in tandem with the firing control mechanism. For greater threats such as long range bombers, fighters, ballistic missiles, etc., they would use long ranged SAMs of course. Makes sense?

  • Think ,optical = line of sight, it can only shoot at what it can see at a very close range. I was including their Russian mobile rocket system that does work off radar tracking . Up and out simply isnt as good as down and around. Sams are becomming a thing of the past as far as being vunerable to counter measures. Stealth has changed the tactics greatly as far as first strike survivability in which success is passed on to the second more vunerable air craft

  • Again I go back to remind you that this IS a SHORT RANGE AA system and nothing else! I haven't insinuated that the "Samavat" will stop stealth bombers. That's what SAMs like the S-300, and the S-400 are designed to do, and do it very effectively I might add. Why do you think the US is raging mad at Russia for providing the S-300 to Iran? If it were so "vulnerable" like you say, do you think the US military would be so nervous, and concerned? Why doesn't Israel bomb Iran like they do to Syria?
