  • Protect this kid...he is our future

  • Wait a minute. It isn't hypothesized that spacetime is curved. It IS curved. And he probably hasn't given the best example, the best example would be of the Earth and how it looks flat to us but actually isn't. And when it comes to spacetime, String theory indicates that the universe is like a bubble with 11 dimensions. Sting theory has also shown what the big bang was.

So I'm not being a critic here. Just pointing things out to other guys seeing the comments.

  • @prishc206 I was thinking somthing similar.

  • @JuOn666 Bro I'm 14 too. And I plan to meet the Genius someday :D

Btw the whole concept is explained very well on Michio Kaku's VLog. You should check it out

  • @prishc206 I get a good idea of what he is saying as it is... thanks..

  • @JuOn666 Cool

  • 10/10 would watch again

  • Thank god for genius altruists like this that want to expand the knowledge base. I'm not half as smart as this kid in physics, and I prefer to live my life attempting to make large sums of money.

  • he's studying in harvard now, right?

  • @omaigad11

    Indiana University

  • His smart but I learned this since I was 8 I love astrophysics

  • @Muthafuckers714 well idont see you on 60 mins

  • this kinda sounds like complete bullshit. I don't know a whole lot about physics, but I can tell when somebody has no idea what they're talking about.

  • @k4ur0 The kid taught himself calculus, trigonometry, algebra and geometry in a week. He is currently doing PHD level studies at Indiana University. The likely reason he sounds a bit odd is because he is also Autistic. Which people of course think of someone slapping their head and going "nyaaahhhhhh", but not all Autistic people are like that.

  • @k4ur0 i assure you this is not bs. This kid has asperger's and has a genius IQ

  • @doluseb Its true that this kid's genius. He has the ability to learn much faster. But then again, we all do. I am NOT bragging, trying to catch attention or anything AT ALL. But I did exactly what he did, but it took me about two weeks more. And that I'm a year older. But back on the point, this kid has the ability to learn anything, but he doesn't have a thinking level that expanded. Those people who can imagine are the real geniuses.(eg- Einstein). Those guys can really think. He's a learner.

  • DID HE LEARN THIS IN SCHOOOL?

  • He is like a real life Jimmy Neutron!

  • i wish i had his gift.. i would love to explore our world

  • when he grows up and studies lik the LOT of you, hell be smarter all of yall. so shut it. :)

  • Proof that time travel does not exist.

Ask yourself to summon a giant diamond.

    Did it appear? Probably not.

If time travel were possible, why didn't you appear from the future,

in order to give yourself the diamond that you asked for?

Perhaps the people in the future had more important things

to use their infinite supply of matter upon, than to go back in time

and give you the diamond to prove that time travel exists.

Don't tell me the future hasn't happened yet.

  • @Vodoune Shutup. Hes 12.

  • @Vodoune and you cant prove shit yourself anyway.

  • @mrkosilathi angry your diamond didn't appear?

  • @Vodoune lol i can just tell by your ridiculous comments that your brains gonna explode when youre listening to his theories in 2016

  • @mrkosilathi I doubt it - I'm willing to take an idea

and put it in it's correct context.

  • @Vodoune you make it correct? ....lol dont kid around...its clear that the kid is a lot smarter.

  • @mrkosilathi take the subject of time travel for example.

It could mean that beings are transported back or forward through time,

    through an infinite amount of imaginary dimensions, that we make believe;

or it could mean that we are constantly travelling through time,

akin to the definition that we have come to know as 'life' ,

and that time travel is comparable to antiquated mythology.

At this point, you don't even know what you're arguing mrkosilathi...

  • @Vodoune thats right, keep sprouting your non-sense garbage n youtube in hope to someday overthrow some 12 yr old kid.

  • @mrkosilathi that is my goal after all.

No, seriously, you need to rethink your disposition.

When I made my original comment, my intentions were

to go all Glenn Beck on the kids face, for fun,

because I saw the video of him on the show.

  • why everyone dissing his parents? i dont get it..

  • @Vodoune yeah dude, give me a prove that Time Travel is really IMPOSSIBLE! We dont know it, it could also be possible that those eqation "Time=space+matter" is wrong! Who knows?....But maybe now i am just stupid xDDD

  • @Vodoune Please tell me that you are joking, and the Rick Rolled theme will play will come out of nowhere.

  • This child is a genius. However, there are some aspects of his "theory" which are sadly, pseudo-science. Yes, he is a prodigy in calculus and he has some insight on astrophysics. BUT, he still does not have the insight nor the research to disprove Einstein and Hawking who spent decades improving and JUSTIFYING their theories. Jacob is smart, but some of what he says isn't correct. Interesting theory.

  • 1:48 foxy, definitely some suppressed urges emerging

  • A kid who can do math. Great. He'll grow up like all other "geniuses" and contribute little to nothing to his field.

  • I would very much like to talk with this young man. I have been working on some theory of my own. White holes are the other side of black holes. You cannot hit singularity, but rather bend around it, as we have found light does. And he is so right that the universe isn't flat. Space-time is curvature into a singularity. So the universe looks like a doughnut or toroid and guess what, it's moving or non-static. Keep up the good work, keep asking questions. Never stop learning.

  • Shame such a smart kid was born to such clueless parents.

  • Who would be telling him this stuff so he could repeat it? I mean if you just went by the video you could say "Oh, it's staged.", but he is getting his masters or is phd or something at 13. So he is ahead of the curve at least. he may not be the next Einstein, but he's a great talent. Haters must be smart people who hate to see someone smarter than them or something.

  • he has the thirst now all he needs is the brushing.

  • 3:05 A curved U? That's just a U lol

  • idiocy boosted by shitface media.. no me gusta

  • This kid is honestly just reciting things he has read. Its not all that impressive. I don't mean to hate, because it takes lots of intelligence to do this, but honestly any kid, with enough time could do that. I knew all this when I was 14. I just read A LOT. This kid is special, but not a genius

  • @kid6522 you clearly haven't seen any other videos about him, he's already working on his masters at University Purdue-University Indianapolis.

  • @kid6522 no dude seriously you have the complete wrong assumptions all i can say is look at his other videos first BEFORE you comment.

  • @kid6522 hes already working on masters btw, bet you could do that at his age?...yeah...thats what i thought.

  • 02:40 So you DON'T have a photographic memory like you claimed on national television...

  • @cliffordsr He might have problems with sorting all the photos, ever think of that?

  • hey i really like the visual aids to describe what your talking about. I was wondering if you would elaborate on the planck length, time, mass etc and their implications. if space time is discretized what is between two points separated by the planck length? does this have the same implications on what is outside of the vicinity of the expanding universe? singularities, higher dimensions or what nothing at all?

  • Is LSD making a comeback?

  • wtf? he doesnt tell anything

  • Time travel to the past is impossible. It would result in a grandfather paradox. Time travel to the future is only possible by traveling so fast, that time would go slower than the relative world around you. Therefor one week = 1 year. Etc.

  • @RealityBeginsWithUs there are a coupled theories proposed that would allow for time travel to the past. look into the godel metric... time travel isnt impossible, it just seems improbable at the current time

  • Okay, why the hell do so many of this kid's "examples" resemble penises? WTF? ( go ahead, I'm waiting for all of the jokes along the lines of "its because you're gay", but that doesn't change the fact that he has pictures of dicks drawn all over that board)

  • @jteutulsr its becuase youre gay.

  • I would love to hear Jake's thoughts on God.

  • @NoaahsArk I wouldn't trust any Jacob Barnett when it comes to god after the whole "Jacob Barnet affair."

  • @kenny8331 What do you mean?

  • @kenny8331 Well, I googled it and wikipedia came up with the article. I did not know that at all. Thanks for the history lesson. Lol. Still, I am curious about this kid's thoughts on the creator of the universe. That's all really. :)

  • @NoaahsArk I know, but he's young and into the scientific process so whatever he thinks about god is likely to change somewhat.

  • @kenny8331 True. If this kid is supposedly smarter than Einstein, then I'm sure he will figure it out for himself. Just a thought though. Pretty smart kid with math.

  • @NoaahsArk 5 bucks says his thoughs are the same as sheldons from big bang theroy

  • (continuation) if it instantaneously reorients itself, does that provide evidence for curvature of space or something? lol

  • i have questions! what role does temperature play in relation to gravity and spacetime and etc? (ie absolute zero)

also, if you were to place a superpowerful magnetic field generator in "limbo" (ie universe with no other matter present) and a million billion lightyears away you place a metal rod or something whose orientation will be affected by this generator, how long will it take from the time you turn the machine on until the rod reorients itself? and what about in this universe?

  • of certain genres. But I am not that good, compared to professional writers, I am terrible. But I try and I love to write, that is what makes me happy. Writing is my expression for the pain in my heart, there are days where I don't want to live and I cry out in pain. I have had mental break downs during the day. (long story), but writing is where I feel is my joy and happiness. Also looking at art from Japan and such. Pixiv is an awesome place to look at art..

  • where to indent, how to use a coma (kinda), where periods go. How to create a character/ likable characters, the idea that using actual problems that happen in real life ( like controversial ideas) actually make for a really good book and that it becomes something people will be talking about for a long time. That if you want to be a good writer, I think being the voice of a generation is a good idea. However, if you do not want to be that, then don't. I write fiction, I can write

  • @Loloharqia: XD I actually got that, I have been doing some listening of Steven Hawkings discussions on this, though my memory on this type of stuff isn't that good. But I do remember a lot. I actually plan on getting a few of his books, along with Carl Sagan, Richard Dawkens, etc. *Shitty segway ahoy* so anyways, I just wanted to clear things up I am better at writing and understanding writing than math and science. I can tell you how many sentences make up a paragraph,

  • a kid using his imagination, wow,no way

  • So, how exactly would you get on the outside of the U? can you just.... physically leave it? Not really making sense...

  • Wouldn't a white hole just be a star?

  • @ChrisEld182 Stars have a huge gravitational pull, that sucked everything in... so no :D

  • Thanks kid! I can build now my time machine!

  • Comment removed

  • where is the U postet in .. ?

where is the where .. 2 say. what contains the container?

is there any tank 4 the receptacle ... ?

big bang in what? expanding where 2?

  • This is way above my head. And I thought I was smart.

  • AMAZING! Your willingness to help others understand by breaking it down is fantastic! Your are a cherished gift,

  • give that guy a smartboardcomputer and acces to occupy!

  • oh no doubt youll come out of a wormhole... somewhere.... sometime.... and scattered in a billion atoms since the gravity of a wormhole simple sucks in light particles and is able to tear material things apart... unless you can generate a field that can counter the black hole's ability to simply smash you into the size of a grain of rice, traveling through one should be out of the equation lol

  • To the guy that says this proves God, your an idiot. Curve space and time proves time travel is a thing. It's already been proven mathematically and physically that time is manipulatable, changing, and only a perceived "thing" that is only important to us and other living things. In the vastness of space between bodies time is irrelevant. The CERN experiments have shown that time as we perceive it is not the same as the accelerated body perceives it. Read Brian Cox's books.

  • One thing that is funny to me is the parents exploit this kid in every manner possible. Jacob is amazing and the parents are not! Lets leave it that way.

  • @mmprestine maybe they just want to see him succeed to his full potential, ever thought of that?

  • The Kid is a genius, he's essentially proving God for Atheists, because in order for the Universe to not be flat u must appear outside of it to see it in its entirety, for this reason I believe time travel is also not possible because not only is the interference & spacial rends too great in our Universe, but u can't manipulate time at ur whim there has to be more than just the physical that would allow a human to make that jump, dare I even mention the Soul?

  • @To411u umM.. I'm not an atheist but this does NOT prove God LoL.. and ur explanation for y it proves god's existence is hilarious.... the topics he's talking about in this video are college level topics(he's still an extremely incredible kid ).. Its gunna take more than astrophysics 1 &2 to explain the existence of god buddy.. ur comment was so funny, i read it to some of my classmates.. We're still laughing

  • @KeS18Bo =(

  • lol funny kid.

  • The analogy you are looking for when talking about quantum ST, was it ripples on a still pond when its drizzling? Also what are the types of particles that are bumping into it?

  • There was a well shaped buttocks in the thumbnail. Who else saw it?

  • not how it works

  • There's no such thing as purely geometrical time travel. The vacuum is not empty. See QFT.

  • why is it that i only understand quantum physics is when im ripped stumbling amazing thing online. think of the lil kids jumping analogy as sandpaper in space time, tiny micro gravitations make the otherwise smooth space pitted and "fuzzy" if you will, love this kid

  • whoever is making these videos: invest in a camera tripod....seriously.

  • @heybrian Actually Einstein touched on special relativity in his 1905 paper entitled "On the electrodynamics of moving bodies." His general theory of relativity he started working on in 1907 and finished in 1915. General relativity deals with space time and gravity. So Jake was actually correct in giving his date of 1915. As he could not have published the theory before he even started working on it.

  • einstein published in 1905 not 1915

  • @heybrian6 Special relativity in 1905, general relativity ten years later. The kid's right.

I would like to see the paper. Can mathboysmom link to the journal?

  • @JVP3122 Found the article. Do a Google search on Origin of maximal symmetry breaking in even PT-symmetric lattices It's on ArXiv, so you can read it for free.

  • I'm sure he can prove or disprove anything you ask him to.

  • People can say what they want. But this kid is gonna be an important person in history. I look forward to seeing what he WILL accomplish.

  • There are all sorts of possabilities and this kid has definate potential..

  • so is he saying time travel is possible? I feel so dumb right now..

  • so basically he is restating the work of other physicists, obviously a genius!

  • All true! I really find him as an inspiration !! I'm 13 years old myself and I am independently studying string theory and more specifically my own theory, Virtual Particle Probabilistic Spacetime. Keep on keeping on Jacob! You give me something to strive for

  • so lets add a black hole a worm hole some e=mc2 and wahlaa you have ... fajitas this is ridiculous ..

every thought this kid has i had when i was his age ...

  • i disagree. Keep doing what you love kid. Because once you grow up and start stressing over money and the like you'll lose that childlike sense of knowledge that allows you to understand these things. Trust me dont stress over money it will come an yeah iknow he's only like 13-14 years old but he should still try to perfect his work a little more. maybe just maybe study something a bit more practical than black holes.... too far away to really know lol

  • ok so all physicists have accepted the idea of these "dimples". But also claim that space-time is not flat. these idea of graphing the equation of gravity and of mass in general with 3-D shapes suggests that space-time is flat. Though the dimples do cause curvature, the graphs would have to be at an infinite(for lack of a better word) "rotation" on a hypathetical "Z"-plane meaning that the infinite graphs would form a spherical type ... thing. i dont use equations but this just really irked me..

  • I'm 16 and I like turtles! Lol but really he's smarter than a lot of people I hate some comments saying he's wrong or not smart well show him what you have.

  • Jacob- I understand that you prefer spacetime to be curved, but what evidence do you have to support your theory? The WMAP satellite as well as several other space experiments have proved the value to be 1.

  • I am 14 I have AS myself (probably in a milder form) and whilst academicly (ahh..., spelling)-wise, I would say I'm fairly intelligent (my IQ is around 120-140 depending what part of IQ your looking at e.g matrix reasoning, vocab. tests etc.), I'm far from his genius level of 170 IQ points. Nevertheless, I think IQ scores are purely based on highly rational and academic intelligence, not other areas of Intelligence like emotional intelligence.

Anyway I find him an inspiration. (Continued)

  • @HNMpepper2 Moreover, supporting what some other people have said, I think we should give him a break if he sounds like he's blabbering a bit, at least he's 'scooping in' to these ideas. Most people his age will be doing far more mindless things.

  • Jacob: Another way to explain that the universe is not flat is to think about how in the past, people thought Earth was flat. Then Galileo came along and disproved that theory. It is now known that the Earth is not flat. Maybe when you get older, and smarter, you'll be able to prove why the universe is not flat.

Physics really interests me, but it's not my major. I study it on occasion, but my IQ (never formally tested, but around 135-140) is nowhere near yours.

  • @johns8166 of course the universe is not flat... we can observe things in space on different planes in all directions from earth. The fact alone that earth is surrounded by the universe negates the possibility of it being flat simply because a 3D object can not occupy a one dimensional plane. small tip to the kid, study something that will make you money because you could be one of the greatest at it, and people have to sponsor your research.

  • @johnnyboy922 Maybe I shouldn't be taking you seriously at all but do you even know what you're talking about? When they say our 3D space isn't flat, they don't mean "flat" as in table-top flat. Just like a paper (which you can assume as 2-D) can "fold," so too can 3-D space "fold" in a 4-space. And just so you know, a plane by definitely is 2-D and thus CANNOT be one dimensional.

  • @LamSH1109 by definition*

  • @LamSH1109 you should not take me serious, I am an idiot. enjoy contemplating hypothesis that will never bennefit humanity.

  • Good stuff. I understood it for the most part. I think it's awesome that he wants to help make math and science easier to learn for people. His explanations are really good and I'd definitely take him as a professor. I'm a college freshman myself, so if he plans on teaching in the next 3-4 years, let me know! Haha

  • IF and LUCKY are not a genius's words it must be then blah blee blah blee blah and you shall escape,Genius huh ?

  • wow, that's a really smart kid, is it just me or does it look kind of like he isn't getting enough sleep? it looks like he has a dark oval around his eyes.

  • @mathboysmom I thought you had like fifty more videos that I watched but then they all disappeared and my subscription was blank. What happened? P.S. I loved these videos where you explained subjects completely and thoroughly to the audience, instead of some college student who knows half the stuff so he's explaining stuff we don't understand yet.

  • Whatever happened to this kid? Maybe he's a ''G-man'' now, cracking mad codes and whatnot.

  • Kid is amazing... May he enlighten the world with his intellect

  • He is only 12 now. Imagine when he begins puberty, and extrapolate to the point where his mind is fully developed! We will definitely see this kid in the future.

  • I used to go through black holes, then I took an arrow to the knee.

  • @cuddleyjoe Why would you say that? Remember Galileo, they called him crazy.

  • The scientific method is what lends any theory credibility, it eliminates bias and mistakes, and it's the best and only tool to use when conjecturing something to be true in the universe. It's not that Jacob's not smart, it's that he can still be incredibly smart and yet very wrong.

Isaac Newton, who deduced the first laws of gravity and invented calculus, considered himself not a physicist or a mathematician, but predominantly an alchemist. There is no such thing as authority in science.

  • The flatness of space is something that has a non-trivial body of scientific evidence supporting it, and while it's perfectly okay and the duty of any physicist to try to reject that, it should only be rejected with proper evidence. Certain other points in this theory seem to fit in only because it would be convenient: what if, let's say, the non-flat curvature of space was not concave so that jumping out would land you on another surface, rather convex with all surfaces pointed out to nothing.

  • I'm going to try to phrase this as benignly as I can, because I'm very impressed by Jacob's abilities in math and physics considering his age but also just as a general person. There's nothing I could say that would discredit the fact that he's incredibly intelligent and will go on to do amazing things.

Still, I have to wonder, when I watch this, how much of what he's saying is based on hypotheses he applied the scientific method to and how much of it is just based on his intuition.(continued)

  • MONTAUK PROJECT

    philadelphia project

  • I'm not smart by anyones means but this lad is a genius... Jacob you are destined for amazing things. Kudos, young man!

  • That kid's explanation about why space might not be flat is GENIUS!

  • Some constructive criticism... can u plz explain in further detail some of your concepts? i feel like u jump from one to another without really getting into how it is truly derived. it would help immensely with actually understanding the info rather than knowing it at a superficial level thanks!

  • SO.. The universe is obvious a massive trampoline. Thank jacob, you da man

  • gl getting outta black hole.....and youre assumptions are based on einsteins work....which is quickly being disproven.... neat idea though..... and why you no say universe is flat plane, id like to know forrizles

  • thank you for restoring my faith in the future <3 xxxooo

  • @ea2k13 Blind faith.

  • I'll pay attention to Jacob more than my college professors anytime....

  • Just wait until he is in college, then he will really discover break throughs in science. I personally think there are many dimensions, infinite numbers. Like just like a fish probably doesn't know there is land above the water, because they only see in a limited amount of dimensions and cannot live outside the water. I think same goes for people living on land, they cannot see the full picture. Maybe we are just dust blowing in the wind.

  • @ArcadeGames he is in college.

  • Draw Bigger Please!

  • Jacob did you take into account Schwarzschild's spherical symmetric Black Hole theory?

  • Im no genius, but there are no such thing as black or worm holes, and never will be, its a made up theory just like the "artist rendering" of every pic, video, etc, never, none, only in the imagination does it exist. Trust me ive done more research than you...go look, dont take a scientist word...go.

  • El Psy Congroo

  • @ShallowThoughts

I don't see why you're so angry. What's the point of making mistakes if you don't learn for them? I can understand your point of view if shadow's thoughts had been extremely inflammatory, but I just see them as decent suggestions from a guy who's already doing scientific work. He's hardly "beating the hell out of him."

  • Besides being insane at math, the kid is actually pretty frikin good at drawing 3-D shapes

  • Jacob has been peer reviewed and published in a top tier physics journal now. These are early thoughts of Jacob.

  • @mathboysmom What journal, if you don't mind me asking? I'd love to track it down and read the article, he seems to have some really interesting ideas.

  • @mathboysmom Your son is such an incredible gift to humanity. You must be so proud. Very excited to see what he does with his life's work!

  • @mathboysmom after all said and studied do you think worm holes are a wast of time... you think we'll be able to see time travel within our life time?... Another good question is... After entering a worm whole, &the you that entered the worm whole shoots and kills you 5 minutes before you enter the worm hole? can you explain who fire's the shot then if your already dead?

  • @mathboysmom Can you tell me which one I'd like to go read it and am having trouble finding it?

  • @mathboysmom he's great i would love to see tons of lecture videos. but i guess thats something he could get paid for

  • @mathboysmom oh i guess you do have a good amount of videos on your channel nevermind

  • gud to see ur videos back keep posting

    luv u....

  • please give your kid over to Dr Kaku for further study.

  • I Love this kid. Keep up the good work Jacob. Hope to speak with you about science some day. If you'd like a copy of my Music theory book I'd be glad to send you one. Or I could email you the PDF file and you can read it, memorize it and then distory the pdf file. Remember "When surfing a big wave duck down to get into the very center (curl) then stand and THINK UP and ride that node all the way home." Wink Natch (%

  • I hope he doesn't become like the rest of prodigies in that they either burn out or focus so much on one thing they don't learn about life and end up shit depressed and can't cope and end up giving up. I hope he has practical intelligence as well is what I'm saying.

  • A couple comments.

First off, you're wrong on how spacetime works on the quantum level. At a quantum level, we have to take Heisenberg into consideration, so the particles are in a probabilistic state, meaning that they aren't in a single point in spacetime, so they don't affect it in nearly the same way that macroscopic objects do.

Second, the whole thing about general relativity is that it requires curved spacetime.

Third, you can want spacetime as a whole to be curved all you want. Prove it.

  • @silentshadow927 Who the hell cares? He's at this level at his age. What were you doing? Discovering your penis?

  • @ShallowThoughts At 12? I was starting calculus.

But here's the thing. Jacob wants to go into science. He's taking his ideas and throwing them out to the world. The next step, as per science, is peer review. When an idea is first proposed, other people look at it and do their very best to rip it apart. At the end of the day, we have only those theories that are good enough to survive the process - relativity, quantum electrodynamics, the laws of thermodynamics, etc. I'm just doing decent science

  • @silentshadow927 BAZINGA!!!

  • Jacob likes curves. Me too. Would love to hear a dialogue between Jacob and Greg Egan.

  • YES loving the quantum physics and the multiverse talk :)

  • If I were his mom id put him to work and make him tutor people for money and then take his money.
