Holy crap, I came across this because I was looking to see if you did any April Fools music, and coincidentally I was actually wondering what the name of this piece was recently. Most useful April Fools joke ever!
@hammerheaddummyface I too, awakened to realized how awesome this song is, when watching End of Evangelion :D Hell, should add this track to Civ 5 game if possible too :DD
The title comes from violinist August Wilhelmj's late 19th century arrangement of the piece for violin and piano. By transposing the key of the piece from its original D major to C major and transposing the melody down an octave, Wilhelmj was able to play the piece on only one string of his violin, the G string.
The original title: Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major, BWV 1068
@VGMimix I am specifically talking about that theme's rendition, "Magypsy's Gone Cutie-Pie." Just listen to that echoing note. I swear, it's practically the same!
Post on April Fools no less. XD Actually, you should consider doing a mini classical music playlist whenever you have a bit of extra time and feel like uploading them. I'd listen to all of them. =D
Well I'd like to hear more of it. A little too good for an april fool's joke i think. however, i don't think it would be too bad to bring some people a bit more close to classic musics which aren't all that bad if you like orchestraded JRPG songs.
You know, this is technically a VGM as well, since it appeared in the early Leisure Suit Larry series (Al Lowe was a music teacher before he started designing games). Heh.
This is one of my favorite songs, no trollin'. Been listening to it a lot lately. It has also been in a few video games if memory serves correctly. Megaman Legends I believe was one?
@saladshootavvv , @MrXarlable stop trying to troll each other try to target atheist/christian comments or idiotic people in general. They are much more easy to troll believe me.
It would be a shame if it where just an april fools joke, classical music can be awesome too... Some vgm's where definitely inspired by classic works... Like One Winged Angel, most of the music in Eternal Sonata, etc.
And who can forget (as a part of the official ost) Moonlight Sonata (Monschein Sonata) by L. van Beethoven in Resident Evil?
I also liked your past April Fool's things better than this one, but thinking about it reminds me that I've been subscribed to your channel for over two years... How time flies! I played Secret of Evermore and Radiata Stories thanks to you. Not to mention hearing lovely music from your channel every week. Thanks for all of the work you've put into the Best VGM list over the years~ :3
Oh man what a nostalgy bomb! I remember back when they just released this awesome ga... classical music piece and everyone seemed to hate it because it's catering to the "casuals". But now look who's laughing! Everyone still bought this so called "casual" piece and the maker is rolling in cash, unlike you all poor peasants! HA!
Bach rules. Modern classical / soundtrack composers make me cringe. John Williams is an exception. Classical music is art in the same sense as selling paintings; you hope someone buys yours.
I.... kinda hope this isn't an April Fools joke. Hmm. Perhaps Supra could do a mixture of VGM and CM? In my opinion, they are both great. Alas, if 'tis indeed an april fools' joke, then I shall accept that as well.
Ah yes, this takes me back to that fine summer when I was in the "Green Apple" at about 3:00 AM taking part in the fine work of Leonardo da Vinci. "Leonardo Leads" they would say, I could not have agreed more...
I'd like to recommend you watch an anime or movie, called Nodame Cantabile. Some great classic songs in it. Rachmaninoff's piano concerto. 2 is a good example.
of course, i'm probably getting trolled and this is just an april fool's joke video lol.
I never played this game. I've heard good things about it though. IGN gave it a 6.5, but they can be really picky. I think I will try to get this from Gamefly. Is the PS3 version better than the 360? I heard you can play as Kratos in that one...
(for anyone who doesn't see, I am joking. Classic piece of music, SupraDarky. Good choice)
Oh man. You just expanded listening repertoire into Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Liszt, Brahms, Mussorgsky, Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, Chopin... The list goes on. *tear of awe*
This...is a prank...derp...how many people forget the date...I'm have a serious head injury and I remembered. Wow, lol, whatecer, still good thoyugh. Not to mention, how can anyone make a never ending list going from the best to what they just flat out hate? It makes no sense. Lastly, nowhere does it say standard VGM list is done even if this were real, so lord knows we'd just get two lists.
@CleverDjembe The upload is an april fools joke, that's what I'm referring to since Supra uploads video game music. If you don't appreciate a classic that's fine.
@SupraDarky Hi Supra, I hate to be a nitpicker but you shouldn't call it a song unless there's singing. A song is a very specific genre of music (especially when talking about western classical music). I'm glad you're doing this list, if you would like any help or suggestions I have a pretty good background in classical music, new and old. Thanks for all the uploads :)
Dude, no one cares about that antiquated definition for "song". EVERYONE uses song as a synonym for music, so that is what it is. Languages are cool like that, they change based on how words are used.
For instance, you wouldn't call someone "gay" and expect them to know that you meant "happy".
@321cheeseman That's why I specifically said "especially when talking about western classical music". The colloquial use of "song" being synonymous with all music is not just incorrect but also a symptom of a musically uneducated culture. It's not a cultural evolution of a word like "gay". It doesn't mean that its usage is correct just because people use the term. Even if that were true, how do you distinguish between a symphony, a concerto and a nocturne if you call them all songs? You can't.
You can still use symphony, concerto, nocturne, dirge, minuet, bolero, sonata, requiem, aria, prelude, serenade or whatever to describe a piece in a setting where that would actually matter; nothing is stopping you from doing that.
Really though, the things I've listed work just as well as sub-genres under 'classical music'. So I'm just going to call them classical songs that just happen to be symphonies or serenades. That is how it is going to be.
@321cheeseman I hope your arrogance bites you in the ass one day. You really have no clue. You think at Juilliard or Curtis that would be acceptable? Have you ever spoken to a classically trained musician in your life? I work in the field, trust me, no one uses the word song to describe a piece. Calling it a song is non-descriptive, ignorant, and just wrong. It would be like calling a stained glass window a painting. They're all just pictures, right?....NO! That's just idiotic.
Now look, I'm not saying you're wrong about hat "song" means, I'm just saying so what if people use the word "song" incorrectly? You know what they mean, it isn't a huge problem, and they don't mean (or cause) any harm by it.
@321cheeseman you took my comment "no one uses the word song to describe a piece" out of context. I was talking specifically about classically trained musicians. I am aware that the majority of the uneducated USA uses the word song to describe all music. Song implies singing, whether people are aware of that or not. Just because people pronounce ask as "axe" that doesn't mean that it's correct. Look at what I wrote to guitarskills about how "instrumental song" is a bad term. That's the harm.
I did not take it out of context. You said "no one" and I interpreted it as "no one", which is doubly justified by the fact that just a comment or 2 back we were talking about the general public.
>Look at what I wrote to guitarskills about how "instrumental song" is a bad term. That's the harm.
WHATS the harm? Just because it's an oxymoron according to a definition that the general public hasn't used in ages?
@guitarskills2 Why? Where have you heard that a song in the western classical tradition doesn't need singing? Tsk tsk tsk, I'd expect that kind of talk from someone named cheeseman, but someone calling themselves a musician? You should be embarrassed. If I'm wrong show me. Please, I'm not trying to be a dick.
@guitarskills2 No, it's not "all you need". What you just said is an oxymoron. What does instrumental song even mean? Does it mean you took the melody from a song and then played an instrumental version of the tune? Or does it mean that it is a song like tune written for instruments? You see, this is why we have definitions. The correct term would be to call it a piece. Where do you think we even got the word song from? From singing that's where.
@guitarskills2 Look kid, I'm getting my masters in composition at Mannes and am studying with a pulitzer prize winning composer. I almost got accepted to Juilliard a year ago and I work with and know MANY composers including Steve Reich, David Lang, and tons of others. NO ONE would call this a song. And of course it's a composition! Just as a painting is a composition! "But saying this isn't a song is so freaking aggravating." That's a personal problem kid. A song implies singing, deal with it.
@guitarskills2 Then maybe those examples are songs. If it's orchestral or instrumental music that has been described as a song then you better get the hell out of there. But I think you're lying, that's the biggest bullshit I've ever heard in my life. NO credible source would call something a song if it wasn't a song. Give me an example of what they call a song. Don't just say "my music theory paper" give me the actual name of the piece.
@saladshootavvv I'm not talking about any specific piece. I am saying that the word "song" does not mean that it must have vocals. "song" is an overlying term for any piece of music.
@guitarskills2 How. Many. Times. Do. I. Have. To. Spell. This. Out. I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN and you are VERY incorrect. I'm saying it is wrong to call any piece of music a song. We already have a term to describe all music....it's called music! A song implies singing. Maybe you should be studying a little more before trying to argue that red isn't red just because you want to call it blue.
Holy crap, I came across this because I was looking to see if you did any April Fools music, and coincidentally I was actually wondering what the name of this piece was recently. Most useful April Fools joke ever!

Dude, no one cares about that antiquated definition for "song". EVERYONE uses song as a synonym for music, so that is what it is. Languages are cool like that, they change based on how words are used.
For instance, you wouldn't call someone "gay" and expect them to know that you meant "happy".
321cheeseman 11 months ago
@321cheeseman That's why I specifically said "especially when talking about western classical music". The colloquial use of "song" being synonymous with all music is not just incorrect but also a symptom of a musically uneducated culture. It's not a cultural evolution of a word like "gay". It doesn't mean that its usage is correct just because people use the term. Even if that were true, how do you distinguish between a symphony, a concerto and a nocturne if you call them all songs? You can't.
saladshootavvv 11 months ago
@saladshootavvv

@saladshootavvv
>no one uses the word song to describe a piece
I'm afraid that's just not true.

That's the harm.
saladshootavvv 11 months ago
@saladshootavvv
321cheeseman 11 months ago
@saladshootavvv A song does NOT need singing...
I seriously feel like insulting you for that insult :/
guitarskills2 11 months ago
@guitarskills2 Why? Where have you heard that a song in the western classical tradition doesn't need singing? Tsk tsk tsk, I'd expect that kind of talk from someone named cheeseman, but someone calling themselves a musician? You should be embarrassed. If I'm wrong show me. Please, I'm not trying to be a dick.
saladshootavvv 11 months ago
@saladshootavvv "instrumental song". That's all I need.
guitarskills2 11 months ago
@guitarskills2 No, it's not "all you need". What you just said is an oxymoron. What does instrumental song even mean? Does it mean you took the melody from a song and then played an instrumental version of the tune? Or does it mean that it is a song like tune written for instruments? You see, this is why we have definitions. The correct term would be to call it a piece. Where do you think we even got the word song from? From singing that's where.
saladshootavvv 11 months ago
@saladshootavvv The correct term would actually be "composition". But saying this isn't a song is so freaking aggravating.
guitarskills2 11 months ago
@guitarskills2 Look kid, I'm getting my masters in composition at Mannes and am studying with a pulitzer prize winning composer. I almost got accepted to Juilliard a year ago and I work with and know MANY composers including Steve Reich, David Lang, and tons of others. NO ONE would call this a song. And of course it's a composition! Just as a painting is a composition! "But saying this isn't a song is so freaking aggravating." That's a personal problem kid. A song implies singing, deal with it.
saladshootavvv 11 months ago
All of my music theory papers were I have to analyze them would not say song on the paper if they weren't songs.
guitarskills2 11 months ago
@guitarskills2 Then maybe those examples are songs. If it's orchestral or instrumental music that has been described as a song then you better get the hell out of there. But I think you're lying, that's the biggest bullshit I've ever heard in my life. NO credible source would call something a song if it wasn't a song. Give me an example of what they call a song. Don't just say "my music theory paper" give me the actual name of the piece.
saladshootavvv 11 months ago
@saladshootavvv I'm not talking about any specific piece. I am saying that the word "song" does not mean that it must have vocals. "song" is an overlying term for any piece of music.
guitarskills2 11 months ago
@guitarskills2 How. Many. Times. Do. I. Have. To. Spell. This. Out. I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN and you are VERY incorrect. I'm saying it is wrong to call any piece of music a song. We already have a term to describe all music....it's called music! A song implies singing. Maybe you should be studying a little more before trying to argue that red isn't red just because you want to call it blue.
saladshootavvv 11 months ago
@saladshootavvv Music considers every single note. Take music theory before you start arguing such things.
A Augmented sixth chord is music. It is not a composition by itself, as you say..
