I believe that this is the performance before which Riciarelli reported early next morning for a concert rehearsal of Donizetti's LUCREZIA BORGIA . Once she had her unpreparedness announced, she waited until the orchestra was trying to balance the sound "of the waves on Adriatic" which introduces her entrance aria, then interrupted everyone by asking for a pencil. She had not fully prepared one of the duets by this rehearsal. Is the effect of "lax preparation" evident in THIS clip?

Una Ricciarelli superba, qui davvero, molto meglio di Pavarotti che a parte le crepe della voce non sa proprio recitare... Insomma una perla da ascoltare, più che da guardare.

Mi perdoni ma la Ricciarelli superba proprio no.... a parte il ruolo decisamente pesante per lei, la voce è opaca e sforzata oltre il tollerabile...E' vero che Pavarotti ha cantato meglio questo ruolo, ma, inveire così, mi pare inappropriato per un tenore che ha portato il ruolo di Riccardo a livelli eccelsi.

Le edizioni del Met sono sempre da buone a ottime, perlomeno quelle registrate. Questa è ottima. Due grandi voci degli anni '70 e '80. Katia si avviava verso la fine del periodo di massimo pslendore, ma qui è molto brava, secondo me. E' bello questo video anche perché si capisce bene come sia faticoso anche per artisti di primaria eccellenza interpretare un duetto complesso vocalmente come questo. Ma perchè nel finale Pavarotti mette la bocca dietro alla testa di lei volutamente?

Ho il DVD di questo Ballo e lo spettacolo è magnifico. Pavarotti in grande spolvero (nonostante qualche sfuocatura degli acuti e sovracuti) e una bellissima e brava Rcciarelli, la quale - ahimè - mostra già alcune difficioltà a sostenere un ruolo sì tanto pesante (ma le si nota solo con il senno di poi). In ogni caso è uno spettacolo con regia, costumi e scenografia bellissimi. Insomma: una vera chicca

I like Luciano Pavarotti very much, this production is verry good, he is great here, she is great (and very beautiful) too.

Now, when I already had listened a studio record of Un Ballo in Maschera with Pavarotti and after your notice, I know :)

jenni4claire i bought the dvd [amateurish] but in very good condition except a 2 minute distortion in the scene with the sorceress when she singing. the scene teco io sto is amazing good and luciano pavarotti sound for me very good and he doesn't hiding behind the soprano hair.

Thanks for the tip. I was tempted to buy that one you mention, but I thought it would be a bit hoggy of me as I already own one Un Ballo dvd, [this one] and a cd of it as well. Perhaps when lent is over I will indulge myself in one more.
