I'm making one of these myself, and I found that if you ground down the edges of the gearbox (without destroying the gears, of course) the wings will open to the full height.
There's a whole thread with people building this very kit on Starship Modeler, including myself. Do you still want help reconnecting the wiring?
Mine never really worked to well and I had to rewire everything and leave out the sound. I'd love to redo this kit, but I think due to age all the circuit boards have been damaged. Another nice kit though, Good Job!
