Last I checked, ash mixed with water creates lye which is basic and thus not acidic. Basic enough to remove hair from a hide as a tanning solution. You've upset the potential hydrogen to a caustic solution from what I gather. I gather that you made an antacid Dear. Please correct my nomenclature if I'm wrong.
(1) Don't use ash if you have burnt wood with paint on it because of chemicals. Give me a fucking break, you really think that paint and the chemicals in it are going to survive a fire and poison your soil? Bollocks
(2) Like ii386 said, this DOES NOT HELP ACID LOVING PLANTS, her saying it does is complete bullshit, this ash contains up to 25% calcium carbonate (lime), and since it's such a fine powder this will raise the pH very quickly.
Wood ash is highly basic and WILL NOT help with acid soils! Wood ash should not be applied to acid loving plants! This is a very critical and obvious error!
@ii386 My neighbor has tomato plants that grow right next to his burn pile all the time, they are acidic plants and LOVE the ash. PILES of ash. Is this just a fluke, or do tomatoes actually like basic soil?
@bradkrit I'm not sure, the optimum pH appears to be about 6.4-7. There might be ashes around, but the soil pH might still be within that range or these plants are tolerant of basic soils. I'm not sure but that's an interesting observation. Maybe test the pH around the plants and see.
@ii386 Sorry, I misinterpreted your comment, I guess you mean it wont be good for acid loving plants because it will raise the pHof the soil. Had to watch the whole video to understand what you meant
i put ash on my pot plant, guess what, all my plants are dead now.

@ii386 "Wood ash is highly basic and WILL NOT help with acid soils!" What???
Wood ash does help with acidic soils, alkalis neutralise acids and will raise the soil pH as a result.
