Basically inflation has gone up in the past 30+ years so hence the prices go up for everything from taxes to products and so does the weekly wage so really on the overall scale I so from personal opinion I would say we're about as financially well off today as we were back in the 70s.
@voorhes80 It actually came from a Philips N1700 VCR cassette which is an odd format as the reels are stacked on top of each other instead of alongside like the standard VHS or Betamax, look up on Google image search Philips N1700 or N1500 n you'll see the VCRs and videocassettes for them.
