Bernese Mountain Dogs are bred to chase and hunt porcupines but it looks like this fella wasn't trained. They are the most loving and easygoing dogs on earth. We have one and 'Trixie' is simply a ball of unconditional love. I truly hope 'Bear' is doing fine now and avoids those nasty ol' porky-pines.
My great dane did this TWO days in a ROW! He was good about it but, my vet said she was trying to watch a mini series that week and the GD kept sticking his face in quills. Mostly it was his lips and though he was good enough for me to get them out on my own I wanted him to have some sedation at the vet. Those things HURT when they come out.
hmmm i didn't know cyst videos go well with porcupine videos.... use the quills to pop cysts? Anyways what the hell is up with all the cyst videos on the side?
LOL, are dogs stupid or what? My dog only goes to them and sniffs on them, these dogs seem to attack them... stupid dogs :S There's no way the porcupine attacked the dog...
What are they teaching you people in American Schools? "shooting quills"... Really? I mean seriously? And these youngsters are suppose to be America's future? The ignorance is astounding. The lack of common sense is sad.
My boyfriend and I were having a debate over whether porcupines actually SHOOT quills. I have always thought they are able to shoot quills if they feel threatened, but my boyfriend says it is impossible. Did your dog get shot by the porcupine of did he just get poked while trying to attack the porcupine?
Thank you! I am glad your dog is OK, what a cutie. :)
@dollydagger509 In order to be 'stuck' with quills you need to come in physical contact with a porcupine. They do not 'shoot' them; they inject the quills.
@ monstermaddie17 , no they're not putting him to sleep (not permanently, anyways). They just put him under anesthesia so it isn't as painful for the poor guy when they pull the spikes out. He sleeps right through it. It hurts me heart to see that poor guy hurting too.
@paigedakota1123 Don't worry, they were only removing the needles. In the case that your pet were to get porcupine needles in themselves, you should always take them to the nearest vet, because the needles can be poisonous if not removed correctly.
Is it me or he is going to do it again? My Dog use to have these every week. Kept pulling them out... Then after that my dog got ran over. Not cool...
POOOOOR puppy..He seems like such a nice doggie. Hopefully he got all of those damn quills out and is enjoying a nice big bone to enjoy
