You really have to learn the background of this.S.Osetia had never been part of Georgia before Stalin added it to Georgia.Immediately after the break-up of USSR,USA acknowledged Georgia as part of Russia on the basis of USSR-USA acknowledgement act of 1933 so the issue of the territorial integrity of S.Osetia is complex since Georgia itself has shaped it borders recently.
Georgia itself delegated Russia with a peacekeeping status so there can't be any real talk about Russia's "bias" here.
Its not about the legal right of Russian troops to stay in S-O. Can you understand that?Even though Georgia delegated this peacekeeping mission to Russia, the current situation makes it impossible for Russia to act neutrally in the conflict, because Russia herself IS a participant in it (defending its citizens).The most effective way to stop the violence would be to replace Russian "peacekeepers" with troops from countries which are not closely related to Russia, Georgia or probably even to US.

I think Putin just wants to show that Russia is no pushover. The only reason Georgia decided to provoke Russia now, is because the Olympics are opening today - an international event. He wanted to make Russia look bad. But Russia had two choices, look aggressive and protect it's citizens in these republics. Or lose the reputation it never had in front of the international community. Russia held out for long enough, but when Georgia started killing civilians, it was the last straw.
Thats exactly what Im talking about. Putin wanted to show that Russia is not a pushover and that kind of "dont F..k with us or else" rhetoric has caused Western world to understand that Russia is an unreliable partner. Only a state which lacks confidency needs to use such rhetorics. But Russia has always been powerful enough to have a place among the most powerful states of the world, so I think Putins behavior has had more negative than positive impact on Russias international image.
As for the current conflict in South-Ossetia, we do not know which side is responsible, so it wouldnt be right to take a stance. However I think that Russia is not a neutral side in the conflict (Russian citizens in S-O), hence its really odd that current "peacekeepers" are from Russia. Im almost sure that the clashes would probably not have taken place if there would have been peacekeepers from neutral countries.

Under current circumstances,Georgia wages a full-scale war against Osetia whatever peace-keepers are there and that makes Georgia a criminal side.Russia posesses a peacekeeping mandate from Georgia that's why Russia is rightful to be present in the region.90% of south osetians are citizens of Russia so Russia can't just stay away from this conflict.
It is Georgia that has attacked Osetia so Georgia has to withdraw troops from Osetia.

You really have to learn the background of this.S.Osetia had never been part of Georgia before Stalin added it to Georgia.Immediately after the break-up of USSR,USA acknowledged Georgia as part of Russia on the basis of USSR-USA acknowledgement act of 1933 so the issue of the territorial integrity of S.Osetia is complex since Georgia itself has shaped it borders recently.
Georgia itself delegated Russia with a peacekeeping status so there can't be any real talk about Russia's "bias" here.

Its not about the legal right of Russian troops to stay in S-O. Can you understand that?Even though Georgia delegated this peacekeeping mission to Russia, the current situation makes it impossible for Russia to act neutrally in the conflict, because Russia herself IS a participant in it (defending its citizens).The most effective way to stop the violence would be to replace Russian "peacekeepers" with troops from countries which are not closely related to Russia, Georgia or probably even to US.

I think Putin just wants to show that Russia is no pushover. The only reason Georgia decided to provoke Russia now, is because the Olympics are opening today - an international event. He wanted to make Russia look bad. But Russia had two choices, look aggressive and protect it's citizens in these republics. Or lose the reputation it never had in front of the international community. Russia held out for long enough, but when Georgia started killing civilians, it was the last straw.

Putin wanted to show that Russia is not a pushover and that kind of "dont F..k with us or else" rhetoric has caused Western world to understand that Russia is an unreliable partner. Only a state which lacks confidency needs to use such rhetorics. But Russia has always been powerful enough to have a place among the most powerful states of the world, so I think Putins behavior has had more negative than positive impact on Russias international image.

As for the current conflict in South-Ossetia, we do not know which side is responsible, so it wouldnt be right to take a stance. However I think that Russia is not a neutral side in the conflict (Russian citizens in S-O), hence its really odd that current "peacekeepers" are from Russia. Im almost sure that the clashes would probably not have taken place if there would have been peacekeepers from neutral countries.

There are enough neutral nations which could be asked to send peacekeeping forces. For instance different Asian nations (India, Bangladesh, Indonesia etc.) or even European nations like Finland, Sweden, Austria which are not Nato members, so they cannot be blamed for being "US agents".
