i don´t know why everyone is trying to "pimp" linux out... ubuntu for example, can be even prettier by itself with the use of compiz... if you want to use leopard.. the purchase a mac and stop copying it. Real linux users need to appreciate linux for its accomplishments and stop pretending to be something else.
I agree with boyblue1171. I WANT a Mac, but i can't afford it. I LOVE Linux, and just because you apply a theme some icons and a wallpaper that are from/inspired by another OS doesnt mean you don't appreciate Linux and want a Mac.
That linux was created on the bases of making a GUI for UNIX?? mmm don´t think so.. linux was created by linus just becasuse he needed a free version of unix so he could use it in his university.. o the other hand.. the first versions of linux didn´t have a GUI, it was all text based.. years passed before we could see the first graphic interphases...
linux is cool.i have a laptop with ubuntu on it.But until it runs flawlessly all the major apps... it would be always second rate.Photoshop illustrator flash dreamweaver logic... the list goes on and on.you can compare a bmw z4(mac) with a tuned hatchback... just facts of life.
i dont see why a real mac is cooler? it costs money. i have a leo4all running on 500$ system featuring core2 processor. i also have hardy heron and vista on it too. a killer versatile machine. making hardy look like mac - i don't see a point - but I do it anyway. :-)
i don't think, that is is because of coolness. i like the mac, because all things are there where you expect them:
on a gnome or kde desktop or on a windows pc, you really don't know _globally_, if the preferences are in the „edit", „option" or what ever menu. on a mac, they are always in the application menu.
so the thing i miss under windows or gnome, kde, whatever is the unified user interface! microsoft and the kde and the gnome team should, not hey _have to_ fomulate well rules to design a good program. then maybe i would switch to one of them ...
oh and what i really don't understand is, why an application is fully quitted after closing the last windows ... it uses more time to open the whole application, than just a new window ;)
this isn't ubuntu..it's mac...nice try bt u can't fool evry1....

y'know, if you were a mac user, you would understand that it's not about the looks but about the feels in osx.
nicely done though, if you don't look to close it looks exactly like leopard.

Because I don't want to use a Mac with its OS X BUT I like the Mac's visual style. That is why we "pimp" ubuntu.

it's called cairo-dock

Actually, it's the Avant Window Navigator.

It's the Avant Window Navigator. It's in the Ubuntu repositories.

I prefer Kiba-dock. It looks way more like the leopard dock than any other linux dock application.

Never tried it, but I saw some nice videos of it. Cairo dock's nice too.
Azraelthe7th 3 years ago
Yeah. A lot of the others look real nice. However, Kiba-Dock is the one that you should get if you want to replicate Leopard's look.
