  • romantic in its brutality. perfectly done.

  • what's name of this song?

  • There's a video on youtube called: sin city kiss of death, but it has no saxophone in it :(

  • heeey, its Slevin.

  • I wonder why she hired him to kill her...

  • @Mari8BZF she was being chased by someone or a group of people, who probably intended to kill her and most likely torture her, and probably didn't want to make it look like a suicide.

  • @BobThePatriot

According to Frank Miller, she had an affair with a member of the mafia, she wanted to cut ties and he told her she would die in the most horrific way and when she least expects it. So she hires the salesman. :)

  • That opening scene is just beautiful, just amazingly composed, it's almost like the movie is self-aware of being over-stylized and saying "Love it or hate it, I just don't care" !

And btw: It's not meant to be amazing poetry, it's meant to be the hitman's low-brow poetry showing of how much of a weird, two-faced personality he has.

The movie itself has some great and some mediocre "episodes", so to speak, really amazing are only the (very short) Hartnett and the outstanding Clive Owen ones !

  • damn pure poetry

  • "The silencer makes a whisper out of the gunshot."

Will have to remember this line, its great. And that bounty hunter is just so cool, even though we know so little about him.

  • "She shivers in the wind like the last leaf on a dying tree."

    What a beautiful simile.

  • love it when the bass kicks in

  • I've seen this vid like 30 times and that gunshot still comes shocking and unexpected

  • is she meant to be becky???

  • @raz985 No, they ended the movie so you'd think he kills becky the same way he kills this woman when he offers her a cigarette *Care for a smoke?*. When he said "I'll cash her check in the morning" it's supposed to let you know that he's a hitman and she was his target.

  • @Sloane67665 she hired him to kill her.

  • I don't think it's exact but the solo is very similar to 'Peter Gun' or 'Peter Gunn'

  • This is great, but I'd put the Goodfellas intro up there as well.

  • This is a big shout, but - best opening to a movie ever?

  • "she shivers in the wind like the last leaf on a dying tree" when you can make a simile like that you know you are destined for greatness. Frank Miller is a masterful writer

  • Shivers every time

  • Interesting thing is that this wasn't just done as an intro - this is an actual Sin City strip by Frank Miller.

  • ..."silencer makes a whisper of the gunshot"

  • I tell her... I love her.

    *Silenced gunshot*

I hold her close until she's gone. I'll never know what she's running from. I'll cash her check in the morning.

  • My favorite intro's to a movie its subtle but it does alot for the film

  • whats the song? at the beggining the jazz solo?

  • @csswafford did u find it? please i wanna know :)

  • @Nerced no i cant find it, lol its the best song in the whole movie and i dont know what it is i searched everywhere

  • Comment removed

  • @zepps88 that's not true, John Debney and Graeme Revell composed some of the tracks.

  • @zepps88 No he didn't... He had famous composer Graeme Revell compose them with him. Originally, he asked Hans Zimmer- Who is most known for Christopher Nolan movies like Inception, but he was busy with I think one of the Batman movies.

  • My favorite movie so far.

  • ...not ugly, just fragile

  • She's ugly, he's hot. How ironic.

  • @KashhKashhhh learn the definition of ironic.

  • @KashhKashhhh You really think she's ugly? you're pretty sad, to say the least.

  • @KashhKashhhh If there's one thing I hate more than people who misuse the word ironic; It's ugly fucks who call a lovely woman ugly

  • The sax solo you hear at the beginning is SEX. Thats my kind of jazz. Of course that compliments the scene being obviously Neo Noir

  • @Dancing88Mike do you know how can i find this solo/song?

  • I don't know about you,but I having a BALL!

  • sin city has the same look as 300. How is that achieved?

  • @2109917162 It's called Noir effect,I use it in my comic books.Frank miller used noir effect in all his work....300,the spirit, and sin city

  • @MrSketchtastic i know what it is. I want to know how its achieved in film. I am very familiar with film Noir and frank millers comic books but in the 2 films the texture is somewhat strange. Its not like film Noir of the 50s &60s the texture is much like the one in some need for speed games. The look of clothes and skin and generally all materials looks perfect, almost too perfect thats why it looks strange. Is that achieved in post production or with lighting or what?

  • Great scene by Robert Rodriguez

Does anyone know the name of the song on the soundtrack?

  • As a misogynist I always say this is how a man should treat a woman. Hug and then shoot them and go.

  • SO HARD-CORE MOVIE!

  • the wind rises electric. she's soft, warm and almost weightless

  • favourite movie scene ever. "the silencer makes a whisper of the gunshot. i hold her close until she's gone"

  • platitudes all over there

  • Hartnett's narration in this always reminds me of the Max Payne games

  • this shinnig rose isn' t a artificial character you foolish bumblers...

  • This one scene proves Hartnett's ability as an actor.

Don't think this scene does it for you? Check his performances in Black Hawk Down and Lucky Number Slevin.

  • Did anybody already find the song for this intro? We're making our own version of this great scene and really need it!

  • @robindelange haha if youre making your own version why dont you find something original for music? something that doesnt sound like this :)

  • @ki11erdrag0n If you're making a parody, or something alike, you'll have to choice which elements to keep and which to change. The music is usually essential to a scene, so often I steal that part. A parody of Jaws without the music would be weird too right?

  • @robindelange Well yes, but only if it is a well recognized theme. I mean we all know the jaws theme, the Star Wars theme, etc but this is more background (not really distinct or remembered). Well it sounds like you know what you're doing though. Send me a link :)

  • thats me! :D

  • Best fuckin movie ever fuckin made <3

  • i love this movie and the comics are really good

  • This music in this scene is not on the soundtrack. Is it available clean?

  • nope

  • So Poetic <3

  • Well you are a idiot the film all over is brilliant

  • I fell in love with this movie from the first sentence spoken...

  • agree

  • Totally agree.

  • he didn't know who she was runing from,

  • As it turns out, that lady was a gangster's girlfriend who broke off the relationship and was promised to be killed off in a gruesome manner. She wanted to die by her own means, so she hired the colonel/salesmen.

    (Thank you wikipedia!)

  • you mean "she"...

  • technically there are 4 stories of characters in this movie & this is one of them the hitman, doesnt go into his background or who he is, that much he is just at start & end of movie

  • i gotta anylise this scene for film studies

  • me too

  • yeah, i need the name of that song, its so cool

  • same here i love it

  • 2:53 that music is epic

  • haha I agree

  • ME TOO!~!!!!

  • fuc k

  • " I'll cash her check in the morning."

best line ! sets the mood...just tells you what kind of films it going to be....

  • Aspect ratio is totally bunk. Nice try though.

  • what is the name of the intro song?

  • Love this scene, brilliant!
