  • I'd just like to be the last person on this page to type FUCK

  • Hermann Goering @ 1:06

  • This is exactly how I want my funeral to be. I want everyone to be laughing and having a good time, not be all depressing and be like (T~T he's dead) I want them to be like (XD I'm going to miss that bastard)

  • All funerals should end this way, thanks awefully for uploading this clip.

  • Gorn.

  • God bless you Graham.

  • I think it was nice that they made jokes for him! I cried and laugh at the same time! I miss graham! he was funny! thanks for uploading this!

  • You'll see it's all a show, keep 'em laughing as you go. Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

  • :,)

  • is the entire service available anywhere to watch does anyone know?

  • The one where someone says, "Sploonge."

  • Where can I see the skit about Graham being a big Hollywood producer?

  • I like how they cry while singing. It really is quite touching.

  • John Cleese will go to heaven for this!

  • is this really at a funeral?

  • @09shoot No, it's a memorial.

  • @Manwithamission1972 Forgotten....such a woody word!

  • @emmyaist Unfortunately, nothing any of us say is going to stop people from doing that. Almost no one can grasp the concept of class anymore, so even after watching something as sad as this, someone is almost always going to start a sodding argument. It is a shame.

  • Sadly, I never got the chance to meet Graham... in fact, I didn't even have the privilege of being alive at the same time as he was... but I cry every time I watch this.

  • despite it being full of comedy, this is actually the saddest memorial iv ever seen

  • In your memory, Mr Chapman....

    FUCK!

  • In the meantime, I'd just like to add that John Cleese's teary eyes might have just made me cry. A little.

  • Do you really think that this is the video under which you should be discussing Christianity, atheism or whatever you're talking about? Surely, I'd rather like to mention how great Mr Chapman was and that he shouldn't have died.

But that's just silly me, of course. So please do go on and discuss your views on religion because a) they are fucking fascinating for all of us and b) there is obviously no other place on the Internet where you could do that.

  • @emmyaist be quiet you stupid imbecile.

  • Person hates Eric.

Person gets strangled to death... @ctrlz77

  • Credits at a funeral, awesome

  • @Rogersmith026 The credits are because this was a televised memorial service. Look at 1:30 till like 1:55.

  • I can't wait for the next one to die....

  • The wonderful Douglas Adams standing at the back during the song - another one we lost far too soon :(

  • @Ellie8969 why do the best always die too early :(

  • @OJSlaughter93 Because they live life to fullest, and anyway, who'd want to see a cranky old Graham trying to pull together a second-rate Broadway show with little to none new material anyway? :-)

  • Although I love all of the Python members, Graham Chapman is my favorite Python member. I'm not going to say "was my favorite" because even though he is in heaven, his spirit and memory lives on. It's sad I never got to meet him on earth, but one day I will get to meet him in heaven. And yes, the best way to remember someone is to celebrate their life. :)

  • @taurusgirl65 Graham Chapman was an atheist, and your foolish notions of him being in "heaven" sully his memory.

  • @Anniarchy First of all, I'm not foolish, I'm a Catholic who BELIEVES that Graham is in heaven; I'm fully aware he was an atheist so don't you DARE say my notions soiled his memory. Everyone has a belief for someone, whether Catholic, Atheist, etc. Need I remind you that in this video his Python friends held his memorial funeral in CHURCH!!

  • @taurusgirl65 You don't seem to understand that you saying an atheist is in heaven for all eternity is like someone saying that after you die you will spend your eternity in Jannah, the islamic heaven if you will. It's offensive not to respect how someone wanted to live their lives, and you are free to believe whatever you want about the afterlife, but please know that we atheists do not share that belief. Which is fine, really :)

  • @Tyashi Thank you for the kind, clear and concise reply.

  • @taurusgirl65 Also, remember, that if youre Catholic, and actually believe your religion. If Graham was an athiest, he'd be in hell. The one sin you cannot be forgiven for is not believing in God and Jesus. Ergo, you dont believe he's in heaven. You should believe hes in hell by your own standards. Its much nicer on your behalf to hope hes actually right. For the record, there is no god.

  • @Swissevans86 I'm a Christian and I believe that it's being a good person what brings you to heaven, not religious beliefs. Otherwise the majority of people who ever lived would be in hell.

  • @Swissevans86 Thank you for your reply; and DON'T tell me what to believe in. I will not tell how you should believe. You believe what you want to believe and let me believe what I want to believe.

  • @Swissevans86 touche :)

  • This is how it should be! They're celebrating his life!

  • I don't know whether to laugh or cry. In all honesty, I did a bit of both.

R.I.P. Graham and thanks for all you've done.

  • 3rd time I've heard this song today. The best time I've heard it was this.

  • Comment removed

  • R.I.P Graham i long for what could have been created

  • It is exactly what it is, precisely the way Graham would've wanted to be memorialized. In spoof. In skit. In character. The emotions were genuine, as was the obvious fondness for their beloved friend's silliness. If you don't get it, you don't know the humour of Graham Chapman. Move along while we share a tearful smirk. Cheer up Brian. Worse things happen at sea y'know? Always look on the bright side of life...

  • Only Monty Python could make a memorial service to a man taken so long before his time...cheerful.

Perhaps this is how all of humanity should approach the idea of dying. The last great send-up.

  • @wahaya2 it is an interesting mix of cheerful and painful (like life really). John Cleese looks like he is tearing up a little during the song.

  • lovely

  • @Origamigeek1 They were just upset that Graham died.

  • @Origamigeek1 people dislike the fact that he died? i don't know

  • Man, I hope my eulogy/service is half as fun as that.

  • At 4:11 : Wasn't the man with the very short hair (a bit in front of John Cleese) the life partner of Graham? I don't remember his name but I do feel like I've seen him in an interview of some sort.

  • @Canaveral305 I believe his life partner is the man on 2:17. :)

  • Sorry, it's Tim Brooke-Taylor from The Goodies. Before that we see Alan Bennett and Jonathan Miller.

  • @SlipperyJim6666 I'm sorry. You're absolutely right. My mistake.

  • whats the point of looking at bright side after life is gone?

  • @infantrydivision11 Just ponder the lyrics of the very song you're referring to, the one they're singing for Graham here... It's so comforting! I wish everybody could smile upon the opportunity to consider their life, the final opportunity given by one's death!

  • Thank you.

  • love you graham!

  • I want this on my funeral!!

  • This should have some 1,000,000,000 views, not 40,009.

  • God bless you, Graham Chapman.

  • Thats Douglas Adams at 3:06

Another fine fine British comedy writer gone too soon! RIP Graham, RIP Douglas

  • @ctrlz77 Monty Python isn't meant to be good. It's meant to be stupid like that.

  • @AjiraCtelin1993 I was not talking about them in general, i was just pointing my less favorite python. For the record, the Monty Python's is one of the things that makes me the happiest in the world even when everything tends to go as wrong as it can

  • @ctrlz77 Oh.

  • @ctrlz77

Champan: You BASTARD! YOU LIMY PIGHEADED BASTARD

ctrlz77: I didn't want this kind of abuse i just wanted to hate

Chapman: Oh.... Well you shouldn't have made fun of eric idle then.

  • @thecarpenter45 well, i got news for you: 1- you have schizophrenia, witch is good to find out in time, don't worry, you can have a long life with the proper treatment.

2- you and all the people who gave me fingers down should listen to the guy who posted this video and just "relax. some people like things that others don't, it's normal".

    cheers ;)

  • @ctrlz77 Sorry man, didn't mean to offend that much. Just trying a bit of trolling myself.

  • @thecarpenter45 In fairness, Idle is a complete twat. Always was, always will be.

  • @Origamigeek1 probably somebody who missed the button

  • He's not dead yet... He feels happy he feels *umpf*

Alright sir that'll be three quid

    RIP Grahm

Also don't grumble give a whistle, because you always need to look on the bright side of life and death and face your own curtain with a bow.

    Signed

    John K. Polkenson Mrs.

  • Does anyone know if there is a full version of this anywhere?

  • shed a tear at this, rip chapman.

  • It's lovely to see that David Sherlock was up there singing with The Troupe.

    We miss you Graham! :')

  • @ToastyOrangutan Is that Tim Brooke-Taylor next to him?

  • He's not dead he just smells funny.

  • I spotted Douglas Adams :)

  • @Origamigeek1 Relax. Some people like things that others don't, it's normal.

  • @YannickTheJoker i agree, a further point is they could be disliking almost anything, the video quality, sound quality, length of the clip or even the uploader himself

  • This is beautiful, the humour is underlined with something very touching. One of the best memorial services without a doubt, I hope mine is like this.

  • nothing is holy or are

  • Has anyone ever seen Idle's speech?

  • The tears in the eyes of John Cleese (4:05) are one of the few true and non-acted emotions I've seen of him. Very touching indeed.

  • Eric's voice breaking at the start makes me crey :(

    Good Riddance Graham!

  • i really enjoy that nobody has downvoted this video apparently some people do have some respect.

  • @thereindance I don't want to throw away this glorious opportunity to shock the Youtube-community, and so in great Python tradition, let me be the first to give this video very respectable thumbs down.

Life's full a shit, even without getting angry by someone thumbing down video's on the internet. So, look on the bright side and concentrate mainly on the thumb-up side.

  • This is by far the saddest thing I've seen in a long time. They are being themselves,in their 'little' (which is not-so-littleby far) Pythonian world and trying to reaimn funny, but you can see them trying to keep and at some points, regain composure.

What did it for me is John Cleeses' eyes filling with tears during "Always Look On The Bright Side of Life" (4:06 for those that really need to see it believe it).

God Rest Graham's soul, may he always be smiling :)

  • It's funny, but also probably one of the saddest things I've ever seen. They're still being Python, but at the same time you catch subtle glimpses of their struggle to hold back tears. Idle's full speech even had him pausing to recompose himself.

It's like Steve Harvey said at Bernie Mac's funeral, sometimes you just dig deep looking, and no matter what you do, it just isn't funny.

True story: Cleese's lighthearted eulogy was a heavy inspiration for my own at my Grandfather's memorial.

  • I hope when I'm dead and gone, my friends can joke about me like this to, it would be nice for us to be that close

  • that made me cry, and laugh.

  • It's just like in the movie, there they are singing on the crosses and its so sad, i could never do that straight

  • @ScotlandMaleGlasgow But what if it does have something to do with the person? Me i want lot's of biblical stuff with a good dose of Python thrown in.

  • its just amazing how they honor his memory here and i want this song sung at my funeral

  • i love that they can have a joke in his memory without it seeming disrespectful

  • @thedarksun8891 They knew him best, and understood that he wouldn't want people to cry and feel too sad over his passing. Life is about living, and I believe he understood that, so he wanted people to laugh at his funeral. Good philosophy, if you ask me.

I hope my funeral is this this much fun.

  • thanks for sharing this moment. god bless graham.

  • I cry everytime I watch this vid

  • 2:53 Is that Carol Cleveland?

  • @HookedOnSonics518 In the leopard hat? I believe it is. That's her hair color and her nose, at least.

  • Just read "Michael Palins diaries 1969-1979 the python years ! If anyone likes monty python they will have a better idea of how tallented these guys were ! And get some amazing backround storys about the group ! Thanks for the laughs..

  • @ScotlandMaleGlasgow Yes I agree, very beautiful. :)

  • I cried ♥

  • This had me laughing and crying at the same time.

I'm 99.9% sure that Graham would be laughing his ass off at this.

I want my memorial service to be just like this! :D

    RIP Graham.

    *sheds a tear*

  • What a way to celebrate the life of one of the greatest entertainers Britian has ever seen.

  • I watched this and I cried my eyes out, then I watched a clip of the Holy Grail and I was happy again. Mr. Chapman gave us a gift that can never be taken away from us, and for that I thank him from the bottom of my soul. Rest in peace Graham, you are always in our hearts.

  • Much better quality as well; you can see the tears welling up in John Cleese's eyes during the singalong.

  • I want my celebration of life to be like this, with people calling me a bastard and good bye asshole. hahaha

  • awww their all trying not to cry while their singing that song T.T

  • "And I feel that I should say nonsense. Good riddance to him, the freeloaing basterd. I hope he frys."

  • The Python's were probably one of the most inspirational groups of the second half of the twentieth century. This is true comedy and even compared to new comedies today, I still prefer them every time. It's a shame that everything that was amazing and at its best was before my time...

  • If I go first, I want a service just like this one. Laughter and sarcasm. I would look down and laugh heartily.

  • It sure is too bad that he died. He was a great actor, and was altogether awesome

  • I saw MP at City Center in NYC in the 1970s........they were F-ing GREAT, of course and Graham was so smooth. This clip brought tears to my eyes BUT alo made me laugh hard so thanks so much!

When you have to "go", what better way than by making your mourners laugh in spite of their sadness?

Rest in Peace, King Arthur! You did your mum and dad proud.....

    Steve

  • It's just overwhelming to see the whole Monty Python guys brought together like this. And Cleese fucking rocked this thing.

  • Wir hören und staunen: Humor ist eine Haltung.

  • Fancy that, he died a handful of days before I was born.

  • :) You're his reincarnation!

  • ...What would he think of reincarnating into a girl? ^^

  • Comment removed

  • RE: "...What would he think of reincarnating into a girl? ^^"

Well, he did wear dresses and play women characters in Python, and, being a Python, he obviously had a healthy capacity for open, outside-the-box thought, so one would imagine he could be okay with it.

And you're you now anyway, so it's all good.

...What would he think of reincarnating into a girl? ^^

  • @hcabmellaK , he *was* gay, so, I'm betting he'd be ok with it.

  • @AllenHines yeh im gay and the LAST thing i want is my own vagina. thanks for the stereotyping tho. im sure graham chapman wouldve appreciated it.

  • @fairfair , I didn't say he'd want one, I SAID he'd more than likely be comfortable with it, you poncey troll. How are those delusions of persecution working for you. I'd imagine it'd be a terrible way to go through life, always looking to for something to be offended about.

  • I never noticed that John Cleese has such a big mole behind his right ear!

  • @maxpowers518 It's gone now. He had it removed.

  • Also see Douglas Adams on the right at around 3.05

"O dark dark dark. They all go into the dark..."

  • Terry Gilliam's having a good laugh here.

  • the first time I heard people laughing at a memorial service : )

  • Thank you so much for putting this up, first time I've seen the Michael Palin bit!

  • Tim Brooke-Taylor was there! (2:18) And isn't Bill Oddie at 3:21 and 3:49? And most (all?) of the MP's of course. But no Graeme Garden?

  • cant believe so few have seen this

  • I have now joined the ranks as one of the few.
