Thanks! I was able to find it by rummaging through songs that other respondents suggested until I finally found Dennis Murphy's Polka. Planxty has a great version of it on either a zook or an octave mandolin.
I know this tune. It's an Irish polka. It's played in Sheffield, England and known as The Kerry Polka II. It'll have other names. I've just checked in a few books and can only find it in 'Learn to play the fiddle with the Armagh Pipers Club. E and B Vallely. Regency press'. In this book it's called Kerry Polka II as well. I'm sure I've heard it on record but can't remember offhand.
I looked for "Old French" and "Rambler's Hornpipe" was supposed to be the same or similar. Neither one was that melody, though they remind me of a couple others.
Alas, I also suffer from the condition of song names running together, which is probably why I can't get this one's name. I only wish I could get the tune out of my head. It's starting to irritate my bandmates.
what tuning are you in?

Dennis Murphy's Polka

Nice Playing. Hopefully one day I'll have a real tenor guitar!
Wish I could have watched this sooner. My bandmates and I play Denis Murphy's along with Sean Ryan's Polka. Great tunes.

If I'm not mistaken, it's 'Dennis Murpheys Polka' from the 'Fiddlers Fake BooK. That's the way I play is anyway.

No, but it's something else I know.
(tunes and names have all started to blur together.)

I don't know, tenorlord, but I'm sure going to look and see. Thanks!
