now i KNO you dont kno alicia keys. NONE of those names ESPECIALLY beyonce sound like alicia keys. none of their records sound like anything alicia, not to say shes revolutionary, but she has a signature sound and so do they. alicia isnt commercial because of her "image" and neither is keyshia or mary. theyre commercial because of theyre music, and for those particular three, it has ALWAYS been the case. and as far as holding a "stick" to jill, alicia has enough accolades to prove different.

i dont think you opinion is in the minority because no one may know of jill scott, i think that because alicia keys is acclaimed more so because of her talent than her looks, her looks only enhance her appeal and theres nothing wrong with that. there are other artists in the industry that have looks and are marketed well but still dont sell units or harbor awards like alicia [rihanna, pcd, chris brown]. looks are a factor, but not always.

There are not many artist out there willing to give up the commercial success that may or may not be derived from losing weight, chemically straitening one's hair(even Alicia has lost her braids), and wearing the latest runway fashions of the season. Jill has kept it real for all who dare to take another journey into her soul. As a forty-something, on the verge of divorcing my sorry ass husband, I can appreciate and have grown to expect Jill's integrity. We be lost without her

just because someone doesn't have braids doesn't mean they have chemically treated their hair. Plus does that really matter? There's people with naturals who are just as messed up with people with chemically treated hair.

??? so because alicia doesnt wear braids anymore shes succumbed to commercial success. alicia has left the first label that offered her a deal because of that crap, there is a thing called growth. alicia has been wearing braids all her life, you dont think after 20+ yrs of wearing braids it would be time to change? alicia still has her integrity along with jill scott. the main reason shes commercially successful is because of how good her music is and how it makes ppl feel. dont downgrade her.

Alicia Keys is a pianist, not so much a vocalist. She couldn't touch Jill, Ledisi, Amel Larrieux, or Vivian Green with a 10 foot pole. But, she got the make over record label image (that doesn't fit her hard persona by the way). Chicks like them don't care about image. They put the art first. I appreciate Jill for that. But don't worry. Jill's pay day is coming if it isn't here already.

ok....lets not belittle her talents, she is more than just a pianist. shes not a vocalist but IS a great singer....and i wouldnt say she couldnt touch vivian. vivian is ok but she cant touch any of the ppl you named either. alicia doesnt have any type of make over image, she has always had control over her image and music ok? theres nothing wrong with alicia wanting to look glamorous...anyway, i agree with you last statement...

I don't get how she's not a vocalist but a great singer. I think Alicia's talented, but she's no Jill. And all crossover artists like her get makeovers. That's the industry and that's how they crossover. Needless to say, that's your opinion, and we all have a right to one. Apparently I'm not the only person who thinks that way.

i say that because i think of a vocalist as an extraordinary voice, like patti labelle, luther vandross, ppl like that. i feel like shes a great singer but not in their realms. secondly, why do you feel like shes no jill? she does too much to not be jill. given, jill is a way better singer but alicias talents range from instruments to writing, arranging, etc. third, alicia has always been crossover in my opinion, but she truly crossed over in 04 with if i aint got you. nothing has changed...

continued: the only thing that has changed is her appeal. she has become more international and with that, she did make some changes as far as how she presents herself and dresses, but shes got in touch with her feminine side more and nothings wrong with that. you are right with you opinions statement but the same way other agrees with you, keep in mind that shes hugely popular and your opinions are in the minority.

Alicia Keys is great. But it's the feeling Jill Scott music takes you to that Alicia just can't touch. In my opinion Jill's music is so deep, so real. No one sounds like her. A lot of people sound like Alicia Keys. Not to mention Jill in concert? Damn. Cant touch it. My two favorites have got to be Jill and miss Badu.

i absolutely adore jill scott. shes the first artist ive fell in love with on their music talents alone. erykah badu is another amazing artist i love, but give credit where credit is due. it seems like listen to alicia as much as jill to not feel her music or understand that there is some depth to it. her "diary" album of '04 is a great piece of work. but plz tell me, who are these "lots" of ppl that sound like alicia keys?? i cant name ANY mainstream artist that has a similar sound.

Um lets see here Keyshia Cole, Mary J, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson and to some degree Beyonce. They're not exact replica's of here but very similar. By the way I do listen to Alicia Keys and love her music. But Can't hold a stick to my Jill Scott. No comparison. Alicia and those other artists are a little to commercial. Not to mention the sound production Jill gets on her album's are AMAZING.

now i KNO you dont kno alicia keys. NONE of those names ESPECIALLY beyonce sound like alicia keys. none of their records sound like anything alicia, not to say shes revolutionary, but she has a signature sound and so do they. alicia isnt commercial because of her "image" and neither is keyshia or mary. theyre commercial because of theyre music, and for those particular three, it has ALWAYS been the case. and as far as holding a "stick" to jill, alicia has enough accolades to prove different.

U ever think she gets more accolades because she is commercial??? Lil Wayne, which is garbage, gets more awards than someone like Mos Def, Common, Talib Kweli or a Lupe Fiasco. Because he's commercial. Sex sales, if Jill was the same size as Alicia, I'm sure she would get awards too. Jill will be considered more "underground," not mainstream music. When is the last time you see a Jill Scott video on like MTV? Know the game. Like I said Alicia is good, but she just can't compare to Jill.

You still are not getting the mainstream part hun. Lil Wayne's video's is everywhere, performing at awards. Real music never gets played, never gets awarded, never gets respect. Due to the fact they choose substance in their music rather than being marketable. However people like me, and various other people on here will keep listening to REAL music. Mos Def last album was True Magic and I loved it. He has new one coming this year called the The Ecstatic. Should be good.

i know of his album true magic, thats what i was referring to. i get the mainstream part but i think you fail to realize this; if the public isnt interested, or that artist isnt bringing revenue to the label, theyre not gonna support the promotion. sad but reality. alicia though, brings substance and can be marketed, she also can sell records [which other "real" artists cant]. you talk to me as if i dont appreciate jill, i truly LOVE her, erykah, etc, but i LOVE ak too. you cant rule her out.

also let me say, most of the music that plays on mtv is commercial. jill's music videos has played on bet on many accounts but that doesnt matter. plus alicia doesnt sell sex, never has, so what your point?

i dont think you opinion is in the minority because no one may know of jill scott, i think that because alicia keys is acclaimed more so because of her talent than her looks, her looks only enhance her appeal and theres nothing wrong with that. there are other artists in the industry that have looks and are marketed well but still dont sell units or harbor awards like alicia [rihanna, pcd, chris brown]. looks are a factor, but not always.

We'll her titties are nice & big u can't miss 'em. Your camera did a wonderful job of capturing them and her wonderful performance. I seen her when she came to NY but I know she tore the house down in Philly.
Next time bring a mono-pod (a 1 legged tripod, Walmart has 'em for $20) it would keep the camera steady and relieve your arm of holding the camera all night. U can also hold it above the heads of people in front of you.

Neo-soul is to suggest a new style of soul music. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, but Jill Scott is revelant among any woman going to my belated mother's age (50+) to younger (18). To me, whether you say Jill is Neo-Soul, or soul & r&b-it's awesome music that will be talked about for years to come. she is the best-and a legend! Much love to Jill Scott!!!
