one of the BEST games of ALL times...where are the GOOD games like this one???? it's all about gfx nowadays...btw, great run, you are truly the chosen one for this game.
I'm trading my ps2 and all it's games in today to get this game and some other nes games. Who would've thought that in 2011 I'd regret giving my nes and snes away.
@CHUDscarecrow get a pc controller and download an emulater and the roms. You'll still have a ps2...and a ps2 isnt worth an nes anyway...i found an nes at some fleamarket with 15 games for 40 bucks the dude hooked it up and showed me it worked and everything, then a week later i found ninja gaiden 1 and 2 at an eb games and i give like 5 bucks for the two of those...but you probably already traded it...and about the roms its all your choice some people prefer the whole system but it dont matter

Looking at this game is the reason why I hate NES games. I mean the littlest thing would knock you back and take off about half your energy. I also hated how they had enemies that cheated. I knew those clowns cheated cause when your close to beating them they find away to not allowing you to hit them. Ohh if you had a special power that took from your energy. It was a good thing cause the NES changed gaming but F THEM, and 70% of their games being pathetic.
@jfliguy I was almost with you until the last sentence. Care to explain a bit further? The NES paved the way for SNES, arguably one of the best systems in history besides Genesis and Neo Geo.
@shincyriades I guess what I meant by 70% of the games was how majority of the games were garbage. I mean there are a lot of can't miss games but then there are games that you are like are you kidding me. You waisted over 50 dollars on a game that was pure trash.
@jfliguy Ah - can't argue your point itself, even if I'd personally say around 50% garbage, tops, as far as the licensed games go. Having a lot of trash games is sadly that's a problem that arguably plagues all systems or most of them anyway. I remember back in the day when Nintendo was working on that SNES CD addon, and one of the Nintendo gameplay counselors said there would never be dumb games again because of the power it would have. Oh boy, was that a wrong statement, haha.
@shincyriades One game that set me off the most is the Karate Kid, Festers Quest, and as much as I love Ninja Gaiden series they piss me off. I can not stand it how games where a little bird can knock you back and take off majority of your energy. Make it so hard to go thru. I love the NES era. It did change the gaming world, but lets be real. It made life difficult for everyone. From games, to difficulty. I hated it. My opinion and my opinion alone
@jfliguy Fair enough. A lot of games were indeed incredibly difficult. Sometimes it was a result of bad design - Karate Kid and Fester's Quest, as you mentioned, suffered from that. Other times it was just about right, with well done gameplay mechanics - Kickmaster, the Mega Man series (generally), Crystalis, etc.
@jfliguy I get your point but games back in the day were difficult and thats what made gamers true hardcore gamers. Nowadays there's checkpoints, saves every 5 minutes, and a ton of other things to make it easier to beat. NES days you had to be good to beat games not like today where you can reload at a checkpoint til you beat that part. I understand your point though this is just my opinion.
It takes a lot of practice to be this good. I used to have NG2, back in the day. There was a time when I beat this game all the way through without being hit, not even once... until stage 7-4... I didn't even finish... I just turned it off and sulked. Could I repeat that feat now? Stay tuned and let's find out. I am inspired, thanks Shiny and Danny.
@leapjrh if you really did go through the whole game without getting hit until stage 7-4....that right there indicated that you're a Ninja Gaiden GURU....shit...i wish i was that skillful....i probably can beat castlevania IV without geting hit, but not NG2...FUCK NO!!...i'm gonna get hit...LOL
how does the difficulty in this game compare to the first ninja gaiden? i just finished the first one...it took many days of blood, sweat, and tears...but i finally finished it..
If I could take the playable Ryu from NG1 and put him in NG2 this game would be so dust. Instead I feel that the character was weakened. Still a great game though.
A few notes if you want to improve this (up to 4-3):
1. When you use the Fire Wheel and you get an item you DON'T like, trigger it, then jump over the item. You'll save some seconds while doing that and you're not stuck in place.
2. You've got to learn the "floor-skip" trick, where you take a hit to jump up platforms. This is such an immense time saver, especially in 4-2 where you have plenty of opportunity to do it.
OOOOH MYYYYY GOD !!! The memories, my eyes are starting to get watery. I used to play this lovely game when I was a little kid, I played this game through one time.
Those who have played this game (and other NES) in their child hood, we share the same wonderful memories about video games.
I haven't seen this game in ages! I remember when I was little, before I understood what roman numerals were, I called this game (which was my cousin's) "Ninja Gaiden Ay-Ay".
Awesome job on the run through!!! Reminds me of how I used to play this series...and I still think that it's one of the best series of its time. I played all of them and enjoyed them immensely!!! Rock on! Oh how I miss those days playing this game. And by the way, 3 ninjas are better than one! What was your favorite weapon on this game? Mine was the Fireball/Invincible Firewheel & the Windmill Throwing Star (boomerang shuriken).
The first is the greatest hands down. Has the greatest music, the best gameplay and story if you ask me, it overall just flows really well, yet totaly frusturating at times. Loved it when i was kid.
I missed out on NGII though on the Nes. Finally got around playing yesterday and beating it. overall solid game...But there are few things that were annoying about it. The main thing is the clone item,it becomes too much on screen especially during boss battles and gets...
....In the way and causes crazy character flicker on the screen. I hate that item with a passion and i always tried to avoid getting it ;p it makes the game even more frusturating. Also items themselves look the same based on the screen icon. They all look like Fire icons...It was so hard to tell which was which, lazy graphics design if you ask me. AND in the first ninja gaiden it was great how each level had their own thing to break to get an item, like the street lamps and...
Dragon flies ect. In 2, they're all just red Spheres...lame and they stick out like a soar thumb. Negatives aside, the game has some pretty rad music, it's not quite as frusturating as the first unless you get the clone item hehe. And the level design is great and overall it's pretty damn fun. But i had a better time with the original.
NOW, i'm playing III...i played the first 2 levels, and it's weird compared to the first 2;p i dont like the floaty jumping ;p
This is real old school. Good job doing it. I beat this game before I beaten the first. In fact I never beaten the first and I needed the game genie to beat the third. I know where my major mistake was. Trying to kill everything on screen made the games harder than it needed to be
nice speed run :D I have my own speed run too. However, only Ninja Gaiden 3 is the only game that I cannot have my own speed run. It's the hardest game in the series.
i love this game. i don't think there's any game more pattern-based. once you learn the patterns playing it really does feel like using instinct, going through the levels without thinking about it.
No sir, this is all skill and practice. From watching it you can tell the time he put into playing it! Anyone can do the same with lots of practice. My friend Daniel T and I always hope to inspire!
well in mint condition with original box and instructions maybe, collectors would eat that up for only 30 bucks. but just the cartridge itself i think is pretty common
As stated in the description, a real NES was used. However, to record from an emulator, I would recommend using a screen capture program such as fraps or snag it.
Well I use FRAPS personally. Should be easy for you to set up. The interface is tabbed, and without lots of complicated options - very straightforward. Plus you can just leave it running in the background as you go full screen with your game, hit F9 key to start recording, F9 to stop.
Only tough part is encoding since FRAPS captures uncompressed. But even if you are not familiar with encoding, you can use something simple like DiVX. Send me a message if you need further help or tips!
I dont think the ninja gaiden games were as easy as all of you say. I think they were difficult, but really forgiving compared to other games. For example, unlimited continues. The levels themselves could be pretty aggrivating, but you had so many attempts at the levels they became simple to memorize.
me too. But is there any way Tecmo would have this revived in some advance format say xbox or ps3 etc but same graphics with updated features such as new bosses/enemies and extended challenging stages? kinda like an expansion or something...
i actually found the NSF format of the game's soundtrack. It was hard as hell to find and also needs its own player. It's a small file that can be changed to MP3 format. In anycase, I'm happy with my find! :)
Well, it's definitely slower than your incredible speed run, vgmrsepitome, just to let you know ;).
I clocked it at 19:01.50 minutes from pressing start at the title screen up until the beginning of the ending sequence. That might be unofficial though, but not very far off from the actual finishing time.
Thanks, I appreciate the comment, garstradamus! Hey wait a minute, don't I know you from somewhere!? Yes of course, it's none other than one half of the A & C crew in the house, yeah! Nice to see you here man!

me too. But is there any way Tecmo would have this revived in some advance format say xbox or ps3 etc but same graphics with updated features such as new bosses/enemies and extended challenging stages? kinda like an expansion or something...

Hi newsweekrocks, I saw an official soundtrack on eBay that covered the first two Ninja Gaiden games, but it was priced at over $100 or so.
Someone might have already bought it though, seeing as how it isn't listed anymore.

i actually found the NSF format of the game's soundtrack. It was hard as hell to find and also needs its own player. It's a small file that can be changed to MP3 format. In anycase, I'm happy with my find! :)

Alright cool, I'm glad that you were able to find the soundtrack!

There should also be a winamp plugin or two that plays NSF files. The one I prefer is NotSoFatso.

Thanks to you as well as Daniel T!

Thanks, I appreciate the comment, garstradamus! Hey wait a minute, don't I know you from somewhere!? Yes of course, it's none other than one half of the A & C crew in the house, yeah! Nice to see you here man!

This isn't my speedrun (Daniel T's), but the total time (as close as I can approximate) from the title screen to the ending screen is 26:56.
