This song echoes producer Joe Henry’s “King’s Highway,” tho that song is much darker – telling a story from the point of view of a murderer. Both share dark, insightful lyrics & melancholic melody of extraordinary beauty – accented by haunting mandolin: evoking paradoxical signals of transcendence. A song of loss but also hope (not naive optimism), courage & commitment in spite of hard times & fear. A kind of faith of loss, not loss of faith. One of the best songs I've heard in a long time.
I didn't expect this...goose-bumps all over. Incredible balance, so subtle, incredible accompaniment to the hauntingly beautiful vocals. You rock, thanks so much.
just watched this all the way through....realized toward the end I'd been transported to another plane.. a little taste of heaven. just gotta say "thanks" for the art, for the beauty...and for the tenacity.
Great band. Great singer. The acoustic piano sound goes so well with the acoustic stringed instruments I wonder why more bands don`t use pianos, as apposed to electric keyboards more. Granted they`d be a bit problematic from a touring perspective but they`d be great in a recording situation I recon. Thanks again to MusicFog for such a beautifully presented recording.

actually, that's a DIGITAL piano, so it would go out on tour just fine.

Hmm, looks like someone accidentally missed the "like" button. How embarrassing.
