Well, it's a known fact that Strikers are useless junks. And they also cost a lot of money. More and more I'm amazed by how much waste can exist in the US military weapons acquisition system.
The LAV-III was selected by the Liberal Party in 1996 because Jean-Chrétien at this time had cancelled the contract with Swedish for the CV90. The CV90 was supposed to be used has a Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) and transport carrier (because he can transport guess 6-10 soldiers). The LAV-III was selected because he was cheap...and look what happened to Canadian Forces in A'stanl...112 KIA and 300 WIA.
The LAV-III/Stryker and all wheeled vehicle is a piece of garbage.
Wheeled trucks were ambushed and didn't make it to resupply the 3rd ID (M) en route to Baghdad. Fortunately, we had some more trucks and supplies to push through in the nick of time. Non-linear war requires non-linear logistics which means TRACKED resupply vehicles that can go cross-country and avoid roads.
@nomorenarcissism depends what u wanna do on roads always better on mud diffirent story they should try to go on mud with wheels and a vehicle that size and weigth anyways an idiot can tell you that unless theire tires can dig in far enough to get traction but they cant because the lav is too low lying to the ground
this is for all of you ignorant hicks. the top brasses of the arm forces are corrupted the give contracts to those that bribe them. this means that soldiers are going into battle with NOT THE BEST GEARS POSSIBLE. OK?
PLANET EARTH has pretty extreme terrain with extreme mud; COMPETENT militaries use tracks so they can stay mobile not get stuck in wheels, or should we ask the enemy for a cease-fire until the weather gets better?
Replacing $1, 000 LAV rubber tires are making us go broke, fatter tires are even more vulnerable to molotov cocktails and punctures while not solving the LAV's basic inability to go off-road without getting stuck
frist it is not a Lav 3 , or striker, it is a coyote, or lav 2, it has less give and less clearence, and a smaller engine then the newer lav 3, and it is not as wide and long, you can tell by the amount the turet over hangs, vs the lav 3 it does not
Nothing better then a good set of tracks, They do build a Personel carrier with tracks, the M113, and the M2/3 bradley, who cares about them though, it dont mean a thing untill your shooting 120mm sabot rounds.
almost right, but large cannon don't win over locals with civic action or suppress like machine guns or root out hiding enemies like men on foot delivered by infantry-carrying tanks.
STRYKER LAV III Will be realised to be a US ARMY equipment failure & force expedinture disaster, only after the fat cat Retired Generals who work for the corporation that builds them have lined their pockets !!!
Canada uses the TLAV which is a modified M113A3 APC. The new TLAVs have slat armour, new remote weapon systems, new powerplants, etc... my fav version of the M113 is the TUA variant. It has a TOW missile RWS on top.
Forget these Strykers and Hummers for desert and off road use. The Super Gavin is much more resistant to IEDs, better armored against RPG strikes, and is tracked, enabling for off-road travel in a manner that makes it harder for insurgents to predict routes of travel and mine them.
Yes the updated M113 with the RPG armor, rubber tracks, upgraded engine, upgraded electronics and so on incorporates all the advantages of the wheeled Strykers, but on top of that, it has a much great off road capabilities and sits at a lower profile. The rubber tracks & big engine allow fast road travel (i.e. not as good as the styker).
We have vehicles with steel tracks going faster than Stryker trucks do now, if you want to be stupid and speed down roads its a function of horsepower and rolling resistance; band tracked M113 Gavins are faster than Strykers in ALL terrains
see thats why canada is now going back to track's they're way fuckin better when ur in the mud or in the sand. wheel's are good in some areas for like road travel but it also can make those LAVIII's top heavy so . i can't wait for the new tanks,
