thats what i said when i saw that scene of him shooting himself.....witch i saw like 20 mins i mean omg his dead....but i didnt get to use the summon....hell live, woo!
It gets better? :D I really have enjoyed the game up to this point. I guess I don't mind so much that there are no objectives because it makes sense there wouldn't be any because they were so busy just trying to survive. Hard to come up with a plan when you're constantly on the run.
But yeah! So far I found it all really interesting. I love getting to know the characters. Square really made them come to life. :)
I liked the idea of not having specific objectives. They're thrown into a situation out of nowhere, so (in my opinion) it makes sense that they wouldn't have thought out objectives from the beginning.
HCBailly u say that there really wasnt an objective in ch 3-8, well thats because they didnt know what 2 do, i mean all they get is a hazy dream and they're automatically suppose 2 know what 2 do, i think its understandable that there wasn't a cut and dry objective, so thats how i look at that
Sazh's Eidolon is a girl. her name's Brynhildr. she's named after a Norse Valkyrie. and she's not the only Norse Mythology-based Eidolon. Odin, Lightning's Eidolon, is the other. and he's the King of the Aesir, the Norse Gods. and Ragnarok, the Eidolon a Pulse l'Cie muse become to destroy the world, is named for the end of the world in Norse Myths.
I really like this part of the story. Sazh is my favorite in this game mainly for the wackyness, but its nice to see he's not just conedy relief, that he DOES infact have a soul and feeling like a regular person. Plus the emotion in the scene and the meaning behind it, quite amazing in my eyes.
Hey HCBailly, been following your LP for the past couple of days, and really enjoying it. Just thought I'd comment (don't know if anyone's said this yet) but those robes are prisoner robes which keep the people being Purged or any prisoners from PSICOM from using their hands, which ultimately stops them from using any of their powers. Natulis reminds me of of the Gold Saucer for some reason. specially where you fight the Eidolon. that place reminds me of the Ghost Mansion Inn Area in the Gold Saucer.
Ok, so I didn't want to post this on the last episode due to it maybe spoiling the end of the vid, but I've gotta say it. When you kill Nabaat I shall rejoice. I've never played FF13, but I hope you kill Nabaat. VENGEEEAAAAAANNNCCCEEEEE
This Eidolon battle made me realize exactly why I like this game despite it's linearity: It's Final Fantasy + Transformers. Eidolons transform into vehicles. That's win, right there.
Yep, Brynhildr is female. Taken directly from the Norse Mythology. Finally, a Final Fantasy that have some Norse mythology references aside from Odin (which still doesn't look like it should! The horse should have eight legs, not four or six. >: )
@stidukka Indeed, but Fenrir has only been used a handful times, if you compare it to Odin, per sé. Either way, this game gives alot more credit to Norse Mythology than any of the previous ones has done so far. Much appreciated.
@Enyira what about FF7, in Norse mythology Thor's arch-enemy is a creature known as the Midgar serphant... NOW, WHAT WAS SHINRA'S MAIN CITY CALLED AGAIN?
@dracocrusher Now, if you really want to know, in Norse mythology, the Human world, is refered to as Midgard. The Jörmungandr, otherwise known as Midgard Serpent, Thor's arch-enemy, got it's name from the fact that after it was thrown into the ocean, it grew so large that it could reach around the world and grasp it's own tail. Also, whenever the Jörmungandr dies, so does Midgard. All they did in FF7 was to remove the last letter. Honorable mention, but if you haven't read it, you won't know.
@dracocrusher Yeah, which was also called the Midgar Serpent. (I think there's a similar serpent enemy in FF XII too) I'm guessing the whole scene where the Serpent's been impaled by Sephiroth has some sort of spiritual meaning now that I look into it. "Foreboding the death of the planet"-sort of thing. Then again. The planet didn't die. xD It's just a shame that alot of the Norse references (alot, not ALL) are usually mainstream things. It would've been fun to see a Thor-summon for example. >:
HC, the purpose/objective is to survive, pretty damn good reason to move forward, considering it applies to almost every living being in the world. The way I see it, the motive for the player to keep playing is to learn more about the characters and see the story unfold. If you ask for some objective like "save the world" or "go do this, to get this item, to save the world", then you're just asking for a "focus" to be given to you, without even thinking about why you should do it.
if you were a L'Cie HCBailey, where would your brand be at?
mine would be on my tongue.
funny story, fought this Eidolen and lost multiple times and got incredibly mad, then after about 6 tries (maybe more) noticed the gestalht mode button and realized.
Ifrit must've did it with a transformer...thats my conclusion..,anyway even if Sahz didn't get his summon..I just couldn't see him commiting suicide, even in these circumstances it seems unlikely imo
FFXIII>FFVII sorry I just had to say it after you mentioned the thing about objectives. Anyway IMO between chapters 3-8 the objective is really staying alive long enough to decide weather or not they should complete their focus. Other than that as you say HCBailey they used the chief character development chapters while chapters 9-11 are the story developers, 1-2 the story starters and 12-13 the grand climax.
@jsh020 I believe that was his point... FFVII have a slight objective : topple the hierarchy, look for sephiroth, stop sephiroth... but it's a lot of wandering around randomly
In FFXIII, the objectives are more mixed up though, because the lightning/hope/snow goal to get to palumpolum runs along side the sazh/vanille goal to get to that other town and you keep switching between the 2
well HCBailly you need to look at this from a realism point of view, which is what they were trying to make in this game, its like a novel, there's a meaning to everything, naturally people don't know right away what to do when the shit hits the fan, it takes a little time to sort everything out, especially with yourself, granted it doesn't work so well for a video game, but its worth noting that at least they tried something different for a change
Ok, so I must say, at 12:44, when you said "What do you got to say Hope," I honestly thought you said, "What do you got to say, hoe," which almost killed me :D
I disagree with you on the objective part. Sacz/Vanille were "running away" to the chocobo place and Hope/Lightning were going to sanctum to destroy the world.
@dorakon Running away is not an objective. All we saw from Lightning was a means to an end that was never achieved, not the objective itself. It doesn't ruin the game at all. Far from it. But when people wonder why others don't like it, I think that's one of the big reasons that the haters just don't articulate very well.
@HCBailly I have my legitimate reasons for strongly disliking FFXIII, Aside from not ever liking Motomu Toriyama's works at all (he's the game's director). I could go into detail but there's not enough room for that here. Suffice to say if I could sum it all up it would be Unrefined/Wasted Potential the story is something else entirely the way it focuses every POV possible and tries to paint almost everyone as the big bad, I give them props for trying something unique but to me it didn't work.
I agree. I haven't been very impressed with the story so far for FF13 watching this lets play. I have to say I don't find the characters to be very intriguing either. Sazh is probably the only main character I've really liked so far. The others are kind of meh to me.
So I am kind of disappointed so far in terms of story development and characters, but its been a fun lets play to watch nonetheless.
Hey Henri,I watched your FAQ Me yesterday and I'll say this:You got yourself a new subscriber just by saying that FFIX and FFVI are two of your favorites. Now which FFs you think are lame? For me the lame ones are X,X-2,XII(Especially X)
It would of been more emotional if there'd been a hint of it being serious. Say, some blood, a louder unambiguous gunshot, Vanille wretching in pain, something like that. Hell, a smoking gun on the ground near an upturned foot/boot. Then fadeout from there. Totally ruined the emotion and crap by doing the false coffin thing and showing the obvious next step for the bad guys.
I LOVE the camera work that the developers did when Sazh made his final decision during that scene. It really made the scene's tension climb into a climax.
Also, HC, Brynhildr's female...it says so in the fireball that acts as the summon animation (in Latin)...but I guess that might be hard to tell, given your previous gender confusion in LPs. ;P
@AweStrikerNova Oh, and I think you get one last ATB segment when you craft an ultimate weapon for the corresponding character. As long as you use that weapon, of course.
Probably because everyone is used to the fire summon in Final Fantasy to being Ifrit. Even though this is the second game in a row where Ifrit isn't the fire summon.
Maybe the fact that there wasn't exactly a clear goal, was because they, themselves, weren't exactly sure what to do. They all had motivations to reach the starting point, but once the big event happened, and they became the "monsters" everyone feared, they were unsure what path they should take. Go home? fight? cling to whatever they have left ( In snow's case ). Not to mention they have absolutely no idea what their focus is. Perhaps it went on too long, but it seems a bit realistic to me :)
I agree, it was rather realistic. As a plot device, though, it wasn't that great.
It's still funny how this game is basically the polar opposite of FF12. In some ways, I consider it something of a justice for all the FF12 hate out there. That being said, I like both FF12, and this game. Or at least the Let's Play of this game.
@GayLPer yah it did the opposite of everything people hated about ff12 and ironicly this is considered worse, like relay hypocritical much. grnated this considered bad but games like lost oddessey is considered phenominal which is easily one of the most generic rpgs you can ever find then i dont think trusting the mainstream oppinion of gamers is relay a good choice.
And you are wise for that, though you could use some spelling lessons :D Just teasing, just teasing.
Basically, I've learned that the only opinion on a game that you can trust is your own opinion. I've played many "good games" that I get bored easily with, and I've played many "bad games" that I can't put down.
@GayLPer true. sorry about spelling though. i hate this keyboard with a passion plus im way to hastey on typing
i kinda gave up on trusting othersabout games recently when i saw that this was considered awful and this agme called mass effect 2 which i wasted my money on is considered godly. that and when i noticed reviewers and people compare games that have absolutly nothing in common, like ive see reviewers compare left 4 dead to uncharted. where the hell did they find a simularity in there
augh! That eidolon pissed me off so much. >___.> oh, and that scene after it really had me going. I haven't seen that many suicides(?) in video games.
Frocobo took a bullet for Sazh XD I dont know. I wish they'd used Ifrit though, i prefer him to...uuuhhh, I can't spell his name XD Since when was this game boring (=^x^=) duuuude I can't wait to see whats gonna happen X3 awesome episode HCBailly!
Yay, return of the Jedi reference at the end. Although the line in that case was "it's an older code, but it checks out. I was about to clear them." Still, it works.
Uhh HCBailey? why are you calling Bryhildr a dude? You can see she clear has Girly parts not to mention the name, I know next to nothing about Norse Mythology and even I knew it sounded like a girls name... Sorry Just sayin

I am still unable to care about the plight of the crystallized l'Cie and their loved ones
I don't know how the crystals work, it's just alien nonsense
and the characters in this game hardly talk about that either, all they do is angst angst angst at each other
which says to me that they don't really care about saving their friends either
aside from Hope losing his mom and then slowly and annoyingly getting over that, the whole story so far is empty
seems like the game might be fun though

Thanks

Hey Henri,I watched your FAQ Me yesterday and I'll say this:You got yourself a new subscriber just by saying that FFIX and FFVI are two of your favorites. Now which FFs you think are lame? For me the lame ones are X,X-2,XII(Especially X)
karagkiozis1821 11 months ago
It would of been more emotional if there'd been a hint of it being serious. Say, some blood, a louder unambiguous gunshot, Vanille wretching in pain, something like that. Hell, a smoking gun on the ground near an upturned foot/boot. Then fadeout from there. Totally ruined the emotion and crap by doing the false coffin thing and showing the obvious next step for the bad guys.

Doesn't Vanille bleed sugar and rainbows? ... and MYSTERY CHEMICAL X!
I was kinda hoping, after Sazh got the summon, you would have played a bob barker clip of, "A new car!!"

Sazh's voice actor... <3

I LOVE the camera work that the developers did when Sazh made his final decision during that scene. It really made the scene's tension climb into a climax.
Also, HC, Brynhildr's female...it says so in the fireball that acts as the summon animation (in Latin)...but I guess that might be hard to tell, given your previous gender confusion in LPs. ;P

You dont need an objective to do something. Sometimes the journy is more important then the reason to journy.

I find it funny how happy you are about having an objective, yet everyone knows that same objective is almost certainly a trap.

I think the robes are supposed to simply be for Pulse contamination identification, so they can tell who's a Pulse beeotch or not.

Forget the title of that one early episode...
Dads ARE tough.
6:30 Convertible? More like a Transformer!
And since we're on the subject: HCBailly, are there more ways to get ATB bar segments than getting Eidoliths?
AweStrikerNova 11 months ago 5
@AweStrikerNova Yes. Don't forget that we also gained an ATB bar from becoming L'Cie.
HCBailly 11 months ago
@AweStrikerNova Oh, and I think you get one last ATB segment when you craft an ultimate weapon for the corresponding character. As long as you use that weapon, of course.

I don't know why many think the eidolon is Ifrit. >>
she's called Brynhildr, one of the daughter's of Odin, and also leader of the valkyries.
Scolerli198 11 months ago
@Scolerli198
Probably because everyone is used to the fire summon in Final Fantasy to being Ifrit. Even though this is the second game in a row where Ifrit isn't the fire summon.

Wait, this is where the game STARTS to get good? Wow, I'm really looking forward to the rest!
Thinker2112 11 months ago 2
Maybe the fact that there wasn't exactly a clear goal, was because they, themselves, weren't exactly sure what to do. They all had motivations to reach the starting point, but once the big event happened, and they became the "monsters" everyone feared, they were unsure what path they should take. Go home? fight? cling to whatever they have left ( In snow's case ). Not to mention they have absolutely no idea what their focus is. Perhaps it went on too long, but it seems a bit realistic to me :)
NoviceartistJC 11 months ago
@NoviceartistJC
GayLPer 11 months ago
@GayLPer yah it did the opposite of everything people hated about ff12 and ironicly this is considered worse, like relay hypocritical much. grnated this considered bad but games like lost oddessey is considered phenominal which is easily one of the most generic rpgs you can ever find then i dont think trusting the mainstream oppinion of gamers is relay a good choice.
jsh020 11 months ago
@jsh020
And you are wise for that, though you could use some spelling lessons :D Just teasing, just teasing.
Basically, I've learned that the only opinion on a game that you can trust is your own opinion. I've played many "good games" that I get bored easily with, and I've played many "bad games" that I can't put down.
GayLPer 11 months ago
@GayLPer true. sorry about spelling though. i hate this keyboard with a passion plus im way to hastey on typing
i kinda gave up on trusting othersabout games recently when i saw that this was considered awful and this agme called mass effect 2 which i wasted my money on is considered godly. that and when i noticed reviewers and people compare games that have absolutly nothing in common, like ive see reviewers compare left 4 dead to uncharted. where the hell did they find a simularity in there
