THANK YOU for sharing this! I SOOOO MISS the Wallets. Saw them several times in Rock Island Illinois about 1986-1988, and they were always fantastic fun, totally outside-the-box cool. Even talked to some of them a few times at the bar between sets, and they were always NICE--seriously hip but perfectly unpretentious. UH!
I'm in the crowd towards the end of the video. It was shot at First AVE in Minneapolis. I threw the shirt that landed on his head at the very end. So long ago.
Ha ha! I haven't heard this song in ages. I remember "Weird" Al sometime in the 80's hosting his show on MTV called AL TV and he played this video. Thanks for posting.
Was lucky enough to tape this off MTV the one and probably only time those bozos played it. It's always been a favorite. Brilliant video from the sense of humor to the animated Duchamp "Nude Descending Staircase" painting. NOTE: the mouse in Steve's mouth!!! It must be his pet to be so trusting. My tape's sound quality is excellent. Too bad this one is so compressed because the music is way cool too.
Cripes, I used to see these guys in Iowa City--even headed out to Ames at least a coupla times. The Wallets had an EP circa 1983, probably--it had what I assume are original tracks of There Was An Old Lady and Totally Nude and I'm pretty sure Gonznoi was on it too. I'd love to get my hands on that again.

I LOVE these guys! Joe, Patrick... man, thank you to the Ganley's for the intro! Makes me miss MN.. Minneapolis to Perm in a day just to see the 25 years ago and they are still awsome!.
THANK YOU!!! i heard this back on college radio in '86 and i've been totally unable to locate it ... until now!
my prob was that i *nearly* had it right. i always thought this song was by The Suburbs. so i had the right record label and city, and a somewhat similar name.
I was at First Avenue tha night the band was filming some of the shots for this video...I remember the sillouettes behind them. The director talked the crowd into taking off pieces of clothing and throwing it up in the air...I think I see myself in the crowd-blurry nights at First Avenue-good times.
True story. I hadn't herd these guys in years, & decided to check them out here on Youtube. I was able to get a copy of their music on tape. I play them in my car ALL THE TIME. Crazy, I know. (car CD player fried years ago, - tape deck still holds up), -Ok, so this weekend I'm at Art A Whirl, Nordeast Mpls.,... and I hear this guy talking behind me, with his back to me,... Before I can see his face I'm asking him if he's Steve Kramer. -He turns around,IT WAS HIM!!! Wow! 2 freaky! Great Band! :-)
I saw this band at the University Of Illinois at Chicago in the late 80's. The Talking Heads wrote a apology on their liner notes for using this title in one of their songs. My Favorite Wallets song was " Mother and Daughter"
Saw them first at the University of Iowa in the student Union, then saw them many times at The Madhatter in Davenport as well as RIBCO in Rock Island. I was on the KFMH Halloween booze cruise too as one of The Residents.
When they did the song Too Many Mice, I always loved to dance through the crowd, shaking rubber mice in front of all the women!
Wow qc, I was at the student Union when they played too. It was $5 for their album and I had it signed by all. Actually, my old girlfriend has it now. That was a helluva a night!
Ok, I have an autographed album from these dudes when THEY were in Fargo, ND. Steve Kramer did lead vocals and singed my album - NOT CD, turds. Erik Anderson was drums, Jim Clifford was bass, Rod Gordan was keys, Max Ray was sax and Steve also did accordian and keys.
Oh man what an awesome find. Saw them for the first time at the U of I union for $5. Saw them after that every time they'd come to Iowa City. Saw them a couple times in Minneapolis as well. Last year I contacted a studio that has the masters of all albums and was able to order the whole catalog on a cd. Sending a copy of it to my college sweetheart in Bali. Thanks for posting and it's great knowing fans are still out there.
I happened to be at First Avenue the night this video was taped; completely by accident I might add. I would be the one in the vertical striped, thick, wool sweater that looks like he does not belong, but hey I signed the release and damn it I stayed. "Take it" remains one of my favorite albums to this day--does anyone have it on CD or know where I can download?
What a great story, albgpb...I was at the U of M (main campus in Mpls.) at the time and this was a classic at EVERY party. I have the same question as others--the version I've heard on an album is different from this one. The version from the video here is far better, plus it's the one I remember. Anyone have any ideas?
They were even better at the Minnesota State Fair, at the free bandshell at 2 in the afternoon with a nice cold one. The accordion solos were ace. Lots of elderly folks on Seniors Day were resting their feet. One of the most beautiful days of my life. August 1985, I think.
These guts were mind blowing...saw em in Moorhead mn...late 80s
