Michael Hesletine should've never joined the Conservative Party, same with Cameron, they are both representing more Liberal and One Nation Conservative stances.
The thing is- if the Conservative party were composed of people of the calibre of Heseltine and Clarke I, personally, could stomach that. The rather sad fact is that it isn't. Other than that... John Prescott was a great parliamentarian and Gordon Brown... well he did buy the British Banking sector on the cheap... not a bad investment...
what a sick man heseltine is and stupid idiots here dare sing his praises, he stands there claiming how good the education system was when as I remember many schools were without the proper equipment and many children were condemed to a life on the dole thanks to him and major and others who wrecked this countries economy LONG before Tony or Gordon got in, they did a far better job than this self serving swine who is indicative of everything thats wrong with the political establishment.
@listerone I don't think evolution intervened, seriously! The fact that he can walk upright is all the proof I need for the existence of God. I don't need to see Jesus resurrected, All I need to see is John Prescott formulating a sentence.
All Hestletine showed was how he viewed the "middle class" which such disdain. He warbled on and on about it and it was this reason that the Tories were voted out in an unprecedented landslide. How dated these views seem and how unfortunate that the Tories may take us back here.
One of the main problems in the policies of Scientology is a lack of compassion. When someone is sick, confused, or sad, instead of offering a helping hand, Scientology blames the person and accuses them of doing something wrong to "pull in" the misfortune. Sympathy is, after all, below 2.0 on their tone scale.
@uptongrey1 I think the Conservatives biggest mistake of recent times was not going for Heseltine when Thatcher stood down. You can never predict how an MP's time as PM might go, but I'm sure Michael Heseltine would have been more effective than John Major.
@uptongrey1 No, I was actually laughing at you. Do you honestly beleive Heseltine could have beaten Blair? The country was sick of the Tories and their aristocrat social policies. Heseltine was a more decent person than say, Thatcher, but he still represents this bullingdon attitude to social policies. This hatred of the Tories, matched with Blair's charisma and political skill, made it impossible for Labour to lose in '97.
@uptongrey1 So what happens if I laugh at a comedian? Is that a sad reflection of my own conditioning?
No, I'm not denying what you said. Of course, new labour was full of lies and broken promises. But they hardly 'brought the country to it's knees'. I was appauled by the Iraq War (Tories cannot claim the moral high ground for that), but unlike most I forgive Blair for that. His achievements are great ones. It was also fun to see Cameron getting beaten at PMQs.
Famous last words by Heseltine insisting that the conservatives would win the next election.. sadly he got that horribly wrong. But I guess the fact that they recovered from an opinion poll slump in 1992 to win the election and the fact that the exit polls before that election predicting a labour victory were wrong, I suppose that's what gave him reason to say such.
Nonetheless he never saw 13 horrible years of labour coming at that point, judging by Prezza's words he certainly did mind.
@leachyycfc Labour got 3 in a row, well done on that btw. Polls put tories 8 points ahead going into this next election. So make the most of this while you can.
Why did Heseltine say they couldn't have a London Mayor'..er What is Barmy Boris then?

God, look at Ted Heath there, still a backbench MP.
Prescott is such a ridiculous lump, he tries his best to own Heseltine and just can't.
