Theres nothing like the older trucks!..as a kid i use to go around and take pictures of them and in 1976 my friend bought the kenworth bicentenial edition VIT200 , conventional, There were only 42 of them made while the cabover had 200 made for the celebration of the bicentenial , The truck had a 286 inch wheelbase along with a 3406 catepillar engine , it was the introduction of the first aerodyne double bunks with top windows ! don,t find no history on them anymore which is strange! .
wow, perfect unmolested vintage working truck. The owner seems like a really nice guy, you can tell by the look of that truck that i bet he does or did all of his own wrench turning! thanks for posting it!
@bluejay148 I'm very sorry. I don't know how come I posted it under your post. I meant to reply to the guy who wanted me to tell him to stick some strait pipes on it. again sorry for my brain freeze...
i don't know alot about US trucks but that is one heck of a truck. does he have a whole house in the cab? it is an true american bigrig real nice condition to be an everyday work horse. very clean and tidy.
ya i seen him going thru reedsburg a couple times when i was going into foremost farms with a load of milk.dont they have trucks that are from up around ridgeway wis,
A guy in my town has one thats a dump truck I wish I could buy it off him. The only thing wrong with them is the radiator is too small can't handle the heat in the summer as well
@wannalayya Maybe a Radiator Age (corrosion) or Material (not aluminum) Problem.. the Modern T-600 Kenworth has a similar sized radiator and can handle a 600hp 3406 Caterpillar.
it can get as much as up to 110 F here in cali but I read this from an old trucker who retired and wrote a book about the class 8 trucks. I think there cool
@wannalayya I hear you.. The Needle Nose Peterbilts are the prettiest trucks ever built.. I'd love to see that Bodystyle revived in some fashion.. the radiator technology is there to do it. I'm an old trucker myself.. with 1.4 million miles of service... I've seen temperatures in El Centro and Baker California of 115 deg- even newer trucks struggle somewhat at those temps to keep water temps under 220.. it's a trip "slower" not stopper, you ease up on the throttle and keep going.
Is this truck kept in Wi? I'm almost positive i've seen it on the interstate by Wi Dells. It was pulling a tank trailer. I think i've seen it in Reedsburg Wi, also. If not there is one just like it running around that area.
@TheLargecars Nope and I never will. The Truck is one of a kind, because he kept it the way he wants it. Heck The pictures of his kids that he has in the cab are even from the 70's...
Gotta love those ole skool "truck" steering wheels. Now they got the cock pit controls looking like a mini van or something. The day they all go automatic is the day I quit driving.
I learned to drive in a 1971 international transtar, and I dont miss it at all. The new trucks are so much more comfortable and powerful. I have a 2008 389 Pete with a 565 HP ISX cummins. Tell your neighbor to check one out he will be amazed at how far things have come and how nice it is to drive. Just dont get a 2008 CAT engine they break down all the time. Nice classic truck, would not want to drive it every day!
Man I love this truck just look at the quality The original Stewart Warner gauges are like the day they left the factory not like the plastic crap you get to day. Thank you for posting an absoulute credit to you.
@DIESELFUMESS That's a beautiful truck. I had two older KWs an 84 and an 85 and to see the doors close on the old girl nice and tight after 40 plus years is a testament to how tough and overbuilt rigs used to be. You didn't throw trucks away like now, you just kept rebuilding and painting until you got tired of the truck.
The 1.2 million was after the rebuild. He does almost all the repairs himself, still, unless it's something really major. He's been driving trucks of some sort since he was 15 years old. He's one of the lucky people in this world who has worked at a job he loves his entire life. I'm very proud of him!
351!!! This junk on the road today is depressing. I have a 359st '72 model thats spec'ed similar to this. Mine; 350 sc; 4x4 not married;4:88 QHXR's on Hend extended leaf;780,000 miles. Truck is in very unmolested condition. Intresting that his has KW sleeper like mine. Don't think Pete made many bunks back then so this is a period correct addition. I run mine quite a bit also. 5 stars Mr.
Nice old horse, they don't make 'em like they usta....just wait & see how many of the Tupperware trucks of today are still on the road when they're 38 yrs. old...
Hey,dupesofhazzard, you say the paint job would look good on a certain year Kenworth, but don't know what a needlenose is?You should have been listening to the man talking about the 335 and 250 Cummins engines. DIESELFUMES,you are lucky to have that man as a neighbor. He was driving a truck when men were men,and woman were damn glad! Not only were the hoods narrower, the roof was lower.Sweet.Next time you see him, shake his hand for me,I bet he has 0 to nil Accident record too.Great Video.
I can tell you, if he did sell it. I would be the one to buy it. Even if I have to sell both legs and arms plus the kids to do it. But since he has a son who drives and a Grandson who will drive some day, I don't think its going any where...
