People who drive these should just take public transport or carpool. We don't need drivers on the road who are always on their mobile phone and don't give two sh!ts about driving.
I test drove a 2009 Corolla today, honestly I didn't like it. The 1.8L engine was just to whimpy (even for me) and the steering response felt weird, like it didn't feel quite right. I later found out it has something to do with the power steering being electrically assisted instead of hydraulic. Mehh.... Seriously what's happened to Toyota these days?
I just drove this car on a 2hr road trip. I found that on the highway, when i was doing 55, to get it to 60 i would have to press the pedal all the way to the floor. At that point the car would down shift, the revs would reach 5000, and finally a few seconds later i'd be at 60. It seems that this car cant accelerate 1mph at highway speeds without being overly dramatic. This car turns normal drivers into that idiot in the left lane that insists on driving 10mph under the limit. This car SUCKS!!!!
@jondori Are you kidding? By the time the last Chevy or Ford dies out, Toyotas like the Corolla will still be on the road. They are incredibly reliable, comfortable cars. They will never leave! So sorry.
@nickelwindow53 it partly has to do with the people who drive them. people who drive Toyotas are the people who manage to get their car to 60 in the same amount of time it takes for someone to boil a pot of water. When you're that light on the engine of course its going to last a lot longer. It also has a little to do with the engineering but mostly the latter. Think about it, no matter which car the little old lady drove back and fourth to church for 10 years was, it never broke down.
I can't answer for now, but back in the 70's and 80's Japanese cars had much tighter quality control than domestic cars. If a part failed to meet spec, it was refused by QA and sent back to be fixed.
I would imagine that today's Japanese cars reflect decades worth of improvement and refining of the same process. American cars are getting much better because Detroit (finally) started emulating Japanese manufacturing techniques.
Unless Toyota has changed the transmission for the last 2 generations of Corolla I don't see anything wrong with the 5 speed. I have one in my 2005 Corolla LE and it is one of the better manuals I have driven. It provides more than enough power to get going and keep up in traffic.
In combined driving, I average around 30mpg city, 38mpg highway.
i have one because the price and zero percent financing and i actualy like the look better than the civic but everything else on the civic better. have had 3 different people who drive older but more significant cars (buick roadmaster, mazda 626, legacy) tell me that they like the style and wish they had a car like this.also they alway so the steering is tight. i think its funny.
TORRANCE, Calif., August 26, 2010 -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today announced that it will conduct a voluntary safety recall involving approximately 1.13 million 2005-2008 Model Year Toyota Corolla and Corolla Matrix vehicles sold in the United States to address some Engine Control Modules (ECM) that may have been improperly manufactured. On vehicles equipped with the 1ZZ-FE engine and two-wheel drive, there is a possibility that a crack may develop at certain solder points
I just bought a yaris.... I always wanted a Toyota cuz my family lives by them that they are dependable good cars that last you a life time. The only one I could afford out of the toyota family was the Yaris even though I really wanted a Corolla, and I was wondering did I get a good car that will last me a long time as well as did I make a good investment?
@nickelwindow53 I'm not sure a car is an investment... more of a liability in that it takes money out of your pocket rather than putting money in it. Toyotas hold their value very well and are made with great quality. Just make sure you do regular maintenance and it should last you your lifetime.
its not "gear" its a trim level. if you look on the website you'll notice that there are a few different trims for the corolla. each one offers different things. the s is definitely sportier than the base trim but not compared to the xrs which has a 2.4 lliter engine
@marcsijames Oh I know about the trims....I have an 09 XRS. It's an automatic with an "S" gear. Was just wondering if that is for sporty driving or for snow driving.
The Electric Steering in these Toyota cars is extremely bad. The new Corolla with electric power steering has dangerously bad road handling issues. I cannot stress in words how badly these cars handle on the road. Toyota's spokesmen lie about the problem and they are ignoring this problem because there is no fix for it. The problem is the steering system itself. Toyota cannot afford to do what is right and that is to repurchase these awful cars from customers who bought them in good faith.
ps, according to the Associated press (AP) there were 89 deaths and 57 injuries officially linked to unintended acceleration over the past decade (between 2000 and current, with another 52 being suspected previously). terrible to be sure, but the recall and all the damage was done based on what could have potentially happened (but didn't). truthfully no one has any idea what is causing the trouble, but either way, breaks and neutral work really well.
you kno what the sad part is? the likely cause is the overcomplexity of cars and the comfort that people have with them. consumers want gps and wi-fi and colour changing lights etc. cars are drive-by-wire (no more throttle cable!) and did u kno the avg car has100million lines of code? (a boeing 787 only has about 6.5mill!) and everything is automatic. people also don't take the time to actually "learn" how to drive. anyone can drive but no one knows what to do in an emergency.... sad
to get a liscense every person should need to know how to start a Stanley. the manual is, sadly, dying off. ferrari, porsche and ferrari no longer offer them even as options. and those are supposed to be drivers cars! : (
@EatmyDust1311@EatmyDust1311 we're closer to being on the same page than it might appear.... i'm just trying to get people to realize that what is happening to toyota is not that big a deal. what they did is wrong of course, but ultimately people will forget. they have, and still do, make a good car (not particularly soulful or fun, but good). there was a problem, every company has them, every company has lied, and every company has killed people because of their lies (or cutting corners)....
@BlueCrystal021 soon toyota and other japanese carmakers aregoing to face the problems of the big 3 : unions. a ford worker in america makes $55 and hour. with benifits. do you think workers in japan or china make anything near that? i dont think so. no matter what they say or do, they are a japanese company and every descision, even about america only madels, is made in japan. they are cost cutting, like the inside of the consoles use sponge padding to cushion the plastics and its stuck on...
@Sauron767 remember the early 1060? I dont. but i think america felt the same way about japanese cars. the only difference is now, china actually has a VERY inferior product and a stigma about kit cars / fake rolls royce ect..
@EatmyDust1311 and yes suvs are safer now; but they are still dangerous to the people in the other car that gets hit. ford makes great cars they were slacking in the US because of lack of competition (except w/ pickups) but in Europe theyve been really good for a long time. i for one am glad theyre stepping up; and they didnt take gov money like GM did... i'm just saying: don't be so willing to think that ford hasnt done the same things as toyota, or GM, or BP, or the gov (remember ospreys?)
@BlueCrystal021 ...using double sisded tape. that, to me, is just cheapo and lazy. and there is no real reason to buy one unless you just Will NOT buy an american car, because there are american cars that really are better.
Now I find Toyota unimpressive. Like, what don't you get about IMPROVING your vehicles. If you don't know how, look at Hyundai, because currently they are way better.
A foreign car company making a car in the U.S. is not the same thing as an American car company making a car in the U.S.. A Toyota made in America is not an American car rather it is a domestically produced foreign car. The profits still go overseas and much (most) of the work is done outside of the U.S. as well including engineering among other things. What will their profits be used for? Anything they want but you can be sure it will be anti-American.
. i had a volvo 440 b4(95) and i know why volvos are volvos, it had a auto prop up stutter for the bonnet and boot...fog lights, power windows on all four, power mirror, heated seats and mirror, only thing i missed on it was steering control for audio. also had 10cd changer in boot, sturdy fenders, and comfy seats, the dashboard was even turned towards you, and lots of leg room in back also after you pull back the front seats,

@fahadmuneeb :mine in australia has also got cheap horn,,,and the speakers and wires in boot can be damaged when you load/unload cargo, apart from ready to break fenders
@nhatbinhus apparently youre not a good driver at all. there are plenty of ways you can stop a car when its malfunctioning... I have a Toyota Corolla and it is very safe because i drive safely. the safety of the car depends on the driver
@dkdkdeden The reason people got killed in Toyotas is b/c they werent smart to begin with, if you're dumb enough to buy and drive a fucking Toyota then your obviously not going to be intelligent enough to know to put it into Neutral.
Japanese Cars peaked a few years back, they now have fallen behind Ford and GM once again in quality and Sales according to all the reviews.
many of our fellow Americans have died because of this lousy company Toyota, is that fair? Should brakes really be failing on cars in the 21st century? I mean can u imagine the terror of being on the highway when all of a sudden your brakes fail and you can't stop?? I HATE Toyota, I'm never buying their brand or lexus again!
many?? statistically speaking it was virtually nothing. and if you recall ford killed some americans too. so has gm and every car company ever... get your facts strait and stop being so susceptible to media hype and mob hysteria... o and thats what an e-break is for.
@EatmyDust1311 Corvair. the classic example.... simple fact: no company wants to go right out and tell people about problems. they would rather wait and try to get the problem under control with out anyone knowing. the only reason companies recall cars is because they are forced to once people realize the problem... besides that, a sticky accelerator is not a huge issue to begin with. the recent honda recall was a far more serious one (shrapnel from the air bags) and of course the ford explorer
@BlueCrystal021 no. as soon as a car company learns of a safety defect like toyotas, by law they have to report it within 5 days. toyota waited 3 years and never tried to solve the problem in that time. they figure, its cheaper and doesnt damage thier flawless too-good-to-be-true image. toyota is a horrible company making horrible cars
@BlueCrystal021 generally yes, they do, especially when your the worlds largest automaker with a reputaion for safety and quality. thier quality is slipping quickly, and they obviously dont care about safety so what appeal do they have left?
@EatmyDust1311 don't be so naive, they do when its in their best interest... and don't worry, just like all the other recalls, people will forget and toyota will be just fine.and like i said before, statistically, the amount of damage caused by the accel was very small. i've owned three toyotas, all of them well over 200k miles and they are phenomenal. every company has issues as does every product... its media hype and a smear campaign to discredit foreign car makers.
@BlueCrystal021 yeah, thats why 5,000 people died in unintended acceleration incidents in toyotas. toyota is the only car maker that has lied and covered up stories, and witheld information to save thier ass when it meant killing people. keep driving your jap crap. ive never had a problem with any of my fords
@EatmyDust1311 again, i sight "unsafe at any speed," toyota was not the only manufacture to hide dangerous things, look at asbestos, look at BP! every company has blood on their hands and a lot of companies have withheld information to save themselves (hell, the government does it)... im not saying its right, just to wake up if u choose to not buy things from comps. that have killed u wouldnt be buying alot. besides, the accel problem wasn't a big deal, pop the car in neutral and hit the breaks
@BlueCrystal021 you dont know anything about the toyta deal... jalopnik.com/tag/toyotarecall/
theres a lot more good info on jalop, but thats the most i could find on one page about the toyota problem. its much more serious than you think. the explorer problem was due to the tires and only the tires, bridgestone took sole responsibilty. i have a 201 ford f150 raptor and its advancetrack w/rsc is the best stability system on the market...
@EatmyDust1311 and lets not forget that the Explorer is 16 times as likely as the typical family car to kill occupants of another vehicle in a crash. also that the ford was the most popular suv on the market at the time. after the recall the vechical lost popularity, but in recent years it has regained the top spot (o how quickly we forget)... but thats not the main problem, SUVs are dangerous (stats show that) but companies keep them going and make them bigger, thereby killing people.
@BlueCrystal021 and they keep getting safer. modern suvs are better built, have more advanced chassis and better electronic stability controlls than before. ford did and still does make the best trucks and suvs. if you want, i can show you proof of that!
@EatmyDust1311 o and ford was recently fined for with holding information involving "the largest vehical recall in american history" over faulty wireing leading to deadly fires as well as a failure of the cruise control to maintain speed. also, ford was recently fined for the deaths of two workers. turns out they refused to follow safety legislation. yep, they have blood on their hands too... and let us not forget rollovers! how many people died in the 10year time? 300. thats more than toyota.
@BlueCrystal021 not even... this is why people should learn to drive a stick for their drivers test AND PASS. people dont understand the basic concept of you can throw your car into neutral at any time. all my friends were like "doesnt that mess up your Drive mode?" *face palm*
READ THIS: toyota absolutely sucks, i mean i am so disgusted that they are failing to brake in the 21st century!! I just heard on the news that four people were on the highway in their Toyota when the car went out of control, accelerating to 120 mph and the brakes failing. They made a 911 call, and as they approached the intersection, you could hear their screams of terror. All four DIED in the accident that followed. For this, i will never forgive Toyota, no "apology" can save lost lives!!!!
if you take this stance with every car company then you will never be able to buy a car. every company has had recalls and every car company has had defects that have killed people.... besides, if they had time to call 911 they had time to put the car in neutral and stop... the whole thing is hysteria and media hype
@BlueCrystal021 yeah, your right, It actually came out that that bozo that called 911 in LA had actually fakes that whole event just to get on TV, you know how it is in LA. Yeah common sense tells you if he was able to call 911 he certainly should have been able to shut the car off and hit the brakes.
@BlueCrystal021 Toyota has been covering up deaths and injuries caused by their cars for years. They've even harassed, intimated and sued victims to keep them silent. Toyota is run more like a criminal enterprise than a car company. Not exactly the same as all their competitors.
@BlueCrystal021 Toyota is really reliable and well known. Toyota cars are just awesome. My uncle has driven an Avalon for about 5 years and hasn't had an acceleration problem with it. Everyone shouldn't hate on Toyota for having recalls when other auto makers have also experienced vehicle recalls as well.
@smashbrosfan13 Thanks for the reply : ) i'd also like to point out to everyone out there that the gvernment has, after extensive testing, discovered that there is no electronic flaws with toyota accelerators.
When U.S. automakers are facing bankruptcy and are their knees, the Government gives them billions in aid, but when a top automaker faces a problem, they get all pissed off.
THE TOYOTA REWARD NOW STANDS AT $2250 cdn for the first person who provides valid confirmation of a faulty part or system in a Toyota that has caused the car to accelerate out of control causing an accident.
too all you conspiarcy people, if this is all a conspiarcy then can someone tell me why akio toyoda stood on national tv and said ( I am very sorry for toyotas mistakes ) and ( we are working very hard too fix these problems ) then this proud distinguished heritage rich legacy proceeded to weep on national tv and in front of congress and all of the world, is this a lie too? all part of the conspiracy? why would akido cry and admit ( mistakes ) and ( problems ) if there were none?
WASHINGTON The president of Toyota's U.S. operations acknowledged to lawmakers on Tuesday that the company's recalls of millions of its cars may "not totally" solve the problem of sudden and dangerous acceleration.
But when asked broadly by Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman, D-Calif., whether the two recalls Toyota put in place would "solve the problem," he replied: "Not totally."
vac33 turns out it was toyotas faulty enginering that caused the problems and further it took the US government to get toyota to fessup to its years of bad designs and worse it ,toyota played its customers for suckers, and worse they still havn't fixed all the problems
Edmunds once again backing imports. Must be some hippies working for Edmund's. In every video I seen so far Edmund's you back imports even it there junk just like this video. Even if the car looks like shit you still back it. What about all Toyota problems Edmund's. Brake problems, steering problems, Gas pedal problems, electrical problems, Transmission problems, motors blowing up, cars over heating and caughting fire. I know there imports and there better. What a joke!
Gee lets see, Toyota's are junk they can't stop or turn or anything and if thats made here its junk. If its so good why is it always on the news for its problems. And your probably one of those people that drive an import. And you should not call people retard's unless you got facts to back it up. So why the name calling? What are you someone that just moved here? Toyota's are having a bunch of problems I know someone that has one and the car just took off on her and no one knows why. KISS ASS
Very true. All U.S. market Corolla's were built at the NUMMI plant in Freemont, California of 55% American parts up until very recently. That "Japanese" car has more domestic parts in it than a lot of Chevrolets or Chryslers on the road today.
They lied to you people for 4 years knowing about this recall. Tried to bury it because they don't want the tarnish.
Truth is Toyota has had quality issues for 5 years but they've swept it under the rug. I hope this was a splash of water to help with the brainwashing.
they recalled for saftey and liability...it only happend to a handful of people....u listen to wut u hear...but if u forget the media...and look in ur community....toyota is still one of the most reliable vehicles....jeep on the other hand....always have issues...
regardless of some little pedal problem, there's no way that ford fusion, or chevy malibu, or pontiac vibe even though it shares the same underarmor as the toyota matrix could catch my attention b4 major jap ricers as americans like to call em. generally, jap cars are more reliable than many others and there's no way that a pedal problem on one model could heavily tarnish the rep of toyota..im sure next model will come better...
@skbuoy thats right brotha.. Toyota and honda got alot of the CFC money. the plan was, CFC to go help Government Motors, Chrysler. so the gov got pissed and went for the new number one!
unintended acceleration kills, protect our childern and know the facts about toyotas unintended acceleration and what too do if your toyota races out of control, god bless the usa
For a bit of education you should study the American Dr.Edward deming, he is in fact the father of the Japanese auto industry as it is today, toyota has deviated from his work and now toyota has all sorts of problems, wise to avoid toyota now BMW Ford GM all make better cars than toyota in fact GM has a better warranty
wesorder66 well as it goes toyota has a significant problem as they seem to have known about their faulty systems since 2007, toyota has been hiding its problems behind technical bulletins, rather than recalls, now consumer reports have removed most toyota models from their recommended list, looks like just the begining of toyotas problems
starview1 the significant problem is the spin doctoring going on here. All manufacturers use bulletins to flag a problem for their dealership mechanics to check out. See the CNBC story about CTS the maker of this part and all the other car makers who use them too and share some of the same parts in their vehicles. Fighting a lost reputation is the worst for Toyota. I've owned four terrific Toyota's and never a problem.
wesorder66 The spin is not from me, Consumer reports has dropped toyota from its recommended list as issues date back to 2007, the current issue (gas pedal) is not the only issue as other parts engineered by toyota ended up faulty, such as the oil flow failure issue. Folks have had nice chryslers too yet others have had issues,so not unique to toyota but appearing more often in toyota since 2007 as apparent quality has been failing
Toyota has to do more rigorous testing and re-evaluate their engineering because of this and other faults - agreed. However, I still would buy a Toyota over any other make in my price range.
wesorder66 more rigorous indeed, I suppose toyota had its hay day and is in free fall now. I know my neighbor now plans to buy a Chevy Malibu, as its ratings and warranty surpass the comperable toyota although Ford has really come on strong in the quality area especially, toyota of course does have its issues none the less oh well it is what it is.
Ford has done well and didn't need the bailout money so cudos to them. Owned a brand new '93 Chev Cavalier and the horrors of it would be over the word limit here. Better warranty doesn't make up for poor quality. I own a 2010 Corolla and have had no problems at all. Will stick with Toyota
wesorder66 runaway Toyotas indeed have killed over 40 people and now electrical issues are considered, well toyota has asked for bailout money from both the USA and Japan (odd isn;t it) your corolla seems to have been lucky fortuneately. This mess would keep me from buying toyota, reminds me of the audi problems years ago.
It is high time that the American (White) public start realizing that foreign cars in general are not better in any way over vehicles made by American companies in the U.S. and that we do not need to be buying all of this foreign junk which is harming our future by reducing our wealth. BUY AMERICAN!
toyota has been having mechanical problems for years now ie oil clogs, electrical etc.they've been masking, and spining the truth that toyota has been making alot of BAD CARS toyota has ben caught again, so serious that they can not fix the problem so much for those secerative toyota repair suggestions, the fact is they don't know what their doing. Don't buy their stuff toyota is FAULTY
Nonsense Headshot. If this was GM FORD or Chrysler many more deaths would be happening before anything would be done. Lets compare track records of reliability and safety for the ol' big three before throwing stones.
Toyota is suffering by getting too much NA parts in the mix. Get back to quality quickly TOYOTA!
@wesorder66 WTF to many american parts i would rather have american parts in my cobalt then forgen even tho i kno most of the stock parts are forgen besides back in the 80's gm only had 1 death with there fuel pump issue in there trucks so they took care of it right away
The part was manufactured by CTS based in Elkhart, Indiana. There is a story on CNBC to check out dude. Toyota's are made in Canada and USA plants. Bashing them could cost North Americans jobs too. I doesn't matter where the parts are from just do better quality testing on all parts. Please also note that NA was meant to mean Not Acceptable....my apologies.
Wow TOYOTA lost its quality huh? WTF? The parts manufacturers are actually a small group of companies that make parts for all car makers around the world. If one car maker has a problem then it could possibly be in all of them.
The answer to this is for each car maker to actually 'make' their own parts... it'll drive prices of cars up and create millions of jobs.
Nice car !!!

Can someone tell me what the "S" gear is for exactly? Is that for uphill driving or is that like for "sport" driving?
professorxox 1 year ago
@professorxox
its not "gear" its a trim level. if you look on the website you'll notice that there are a few different trims for the corolla. each one offers different things. the s is definitely sportier than the base trim but not compared to the xrs which has a 2.4 lliter engine

EatmyDust1311 1 year ago
ps, according to the Associated press (AP) there were 89 deaths and 57 injuries officially linked to unintended acceleration over the past decade (between 2000 and current, with another 52 being suspected previously). terrible to be sure, but the recall and all the damage was done based on what could have potentially happened (but didn't). truthfully no one has any idea what is causing the trouble, but either way, breaks and neutral work really well.
BlueCrystal021 1 year ago
you kno what the sad part is? the likely cause is the overcomplexity of cars and the comfort that people have with them. consumers want gps and wi-fi and colour changing lights etc. cars are drive-by-wire (no more throttle cable!) and did u kno the avg car has100million lines of code? (a boeing 787 only has about 6.5mill!) and everything is automatic. people also don't take the time to actually "learn" how to drive. anyone can drive but no one knows what to do in an emergency.... sad
BlueCrystal021 1 year ago
@BlueCrystal021 cars are overcomplicated and overweight today. simplicity can be complicated though:
jaylenosgarage. com/at-the-garage/steam-cars/1906-stanley-steamer-1/
to get a liscense every person should need to know how to start a Stanley. the manual is, sadly, dying off. ferrari, porsche and ferrari no longer offer them even as options. and those are supposed to be drivers cars! : (

@EatmyDust1311 @EatmyDust1311 we're closer to being on the same page than it might appear.... i'm just trying to get people to realize that what is happening to toyota is not that big a deal. what they did is wrong of course, but ultimately people will forget. they have, and still do, make a good car (not particularly soulful or fun, but good). there was a problem, every company has them, every company has lied, and every company has killed people because of their lies (or cutting corners)....

@BlueCrystal021 yeah... but when they learn of a defect that could kill thousands of people. they dont wait a few years to fix it like toyota
EatmyDust1311 1 year ago
@EatmyDust1311 Corvair. the classic example.... simple fact: no company wants to go right out and tell people about problems. they would rather wait and try to get the problem under control with out anyone knowing. the only reason companies recall cars is because they are forced to once people realize the problem... besides that, a sticky accelerator is not a huge issue to begin with. the recent honda recall was a far more serious one (shrapnel from the air bags) and of course the ford explorer
BlueCrystal021 1 year ago
@BlueCrystal021 no. as soon as a car company learns of a safety defect like toyotas, by law they have to report it within 5 days. toyota waited 3 years and never tried to solve the problem in that time. they figure, its cheaper and doesnt damage thier flawless too-good-to-be-true image. toyota is a horrible company making horrible cars
EatmyDust1311 1 year ago
@EatmyDust1311 yes, and companies always follow the law all the time....
BlueCrystal021 1 year ago
@BlueCrystal021 generally yes, they do, especially when your the worlds largest automaker with a reputaion for safety and quality. thier quality is slipping quickly, and they obviously dont care about safety so what appeal do they have left?
EatmyDust1311 1 year ago
@EatmyDust1311 don't be so naive, they do when its in their best interest... and don't worry, just like all the other recalls, people will forget and toyota will be just fine.and like i said before, statistically, the amount of damage caused by the accel was very small. i've owned three toyotas, all of them well over 200k miles and they are phenomenal. every company has issues as does every product... its media hype and a smear campaign to discredit foreign car makers.
BlueCrystal021 1 year ago
@BlueCrystal021 yeah, thats why 5,000 people died in unintended acceleration incidents in toyotas. toyota is the only car maker that has lied and covered up stories, and witheld information to save thier ass when it meant killing people. keep driving your jap crap. ive never had a problem with any of my fords
EatmyDust1311 1 year ago
@EatmyDust1311 again, i sight "unsafe at any speed," toyota was not the only manufacture to hide dangerous things, look at asbestos, look at BP! every company has blood on their hands and a lot of companies have withheld information to save themselves (hell, the government does it)... im not saying its right, just to wake up if u choose to not buy things from comps. that have killed u wouldnt be buying alot. besides, the accel problem wasn't a big deal, pop the car in neutral and hit the breaks
BlueCrystal021 1 year ago
@BlueCrystal021 you dont know anything about the toyta deal... jalopnik.com/tag/toyotarecall/
theres a lot more good info on jalop, but thats the most i could find on one page about the toyota problem. its much more serious than you think. the explorer problem was due to the tires and only the tires, bridgestone took sole responsibilty. i have a 201 ford f150 raptor and its advancetrack w/rsc is the best stability system on the market...
EatmyDust1311 1 year ago

BlueCrystal021 1 year ago
@EatmyDust1311 and lets not forget that the Explorer is 16 times as likely as the typical family car to kill occupants of another vehicle in a crash. also that the ford was the most popular suv on the market at the time. after the recall the vechical lost popularity, but in recent years it has regained the top spot (o how quickly we forget)... but thats not the main problem, SUVs are dangerous (stats show that) but companies keep them going and make them bigger, thereby killing people.
BlueCrystal021 1 year ago
@BlueCrystal021 and they keep getting safer. modern suvs are better built, have more advanced chassis and better electronic stability controlls than before. ford did and still does make the best trucks and suvs. if you want, i can show you proof of that!

For this, i will never forgive Toyota, no "apology" can save lost lives!!!!
skizzle94 1 year ago
if you take this stance with every car company then you will never be able to buy a car. every company has had recalls and every car company has had defects that have killed people.... besides, if they had time to call 911 they had time to put the car in neutral and stop... the whole thing is hysteria and media hype

WASHINGTON The president of Toyota's U.S. operations acknowledged to lawmakers on Tuesday that the company's recalls of millions of its cars may "not totally" solve the problem of sudden and dangerous acceleration.
But when asked broadly by Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman, D-Calif., whether the two recalls Toyota put in place would "solve the problem," he replied: "Not totally."

runnermonkey 2 years ago
Whoa what a load of crap.
wesorder66 2 years ago
wesorder66 well as it goes toyota has a significant problem as they seem to have known about their faulty systems since 2007, toyota has been hiding its problems behind technical bulletins, rather than recalls, now consumer reports have removed most toyota models from their recommended list, looks like just the begining of toyotas problems
starview1 2 years ago
starview1 the significant problem is the spin doctoring going on here. All manufacturers use bulletins to flag a problem for their dealership mechanics to check out. See the CNBC story about CTS the maker of this part and all the other car makers who use them too and share some of the same parts in their vehicles. Fighting a lost reputation is the worst for Toyota. I've owned four terrific Toyota's and never a problem.
wesorder66 2 years ago 2
wesorder66 The spin is not from me, Consumer reports has dropped toyota from its recommended list as issues date back to 2007, the current issue (gas pedal) is not the only issue as other parts engineered by toyota ended up faulty, such as the oil flow failure issue. Folks have had nice chryslers too yet others have had issues,so not unique to toyota but appearing more often in toyota since 2007 as apparent quality has been failing
starview1 2 years ago
Toyota has to do more rigorous testing and re-evaluate their engineering because of this and other faults - agreed. However, I still would buy a Toyota over any other make in my price range.
wesorder66 2 years ago 3
wesorder66 more rigorous indeed, I suppose toyota had its hay day and is in free fall now. I know my neighbor now plans to buy a Chevy Malibu, as its ratings and warranty surpass the comperable toyota although Ford has really come on strong in the quality area especially, toyota of course does have its issues none the less oh well it is what it is.
starview1 2 years ago
Ford has done well and didn't need the bailout money so cudos to them. Owned a brand new '93 Chev Cavalier and the horrors of it would be over the word limit here. Better warranty doesn't make up for poor quality. I own a 2010 Corolla and have had no problems at all. Will stick with Toyota
wesorder66 2 years ago 3
wesorder66 runaway Toyotas indeed have killed over 40 people and now electrical issues are considered, well toyota has asked for bailout money from both the USA and Japan (odd isn;t it) your corolla seems to have been lucky fortuneately. This mess would keep me from buying toyota, reminds me of the audi problems years ago.

fegue2 2 years ago
Wow TOYOTA lost its quality huh? WTF? The parts manufacturers are actually a small group of companies that make parts for all car makers around the world. If one car maker has a problem then it could possibly be in all of them.
The answer to this is for each car maker to actually 'make' their own parts... it'll drive prices of cars up and create millions of jobs.
