@uktransplantedyank Your somewhat pathetic name calling say more about you than they do about her. Oh and by the way there are Roman descriptions of sprigs carved with 'runes' used for divination. A marriage to a deity or god form is not an uncommon concept. I have met Freya and in my opinion she is the real deal, her first book displays a huge depth of knowledge and is an exceptional resource. Unfortunately this seems likely to pass you by. I await your intellectually blunt goading.
Tacitus was actually describing lot-casting, which is a known Germanic tribal practise. Runic divination was more or less invented lock, stock, and barrel by Ralph Blum, ergo it is effectively modern. As for marrying a god or goddess, the concept would have been completely unknown in quite a few ancient societies, most especially Germanic tribal societies.
So what you've met Aswynn? That doesn't mean she's any less of a sham. In fact, her "knowledge" is so much nonsense.
@uktransplantedyank Actually the Tacitus passage is wholly open to interpretation, yours is that this is not runic, most scholars including my professor at Trinity Dublin think this is runic divination. Mystical couplings or 'marriages' exist in pre-wiccan versions of the great rite. Personally I'm with Raymond Buckland in that i only care whether something works for me. I can say from personal experience that the runic 'warding' in one of Freya's books worked for me. You need perspective.
Most scholars, you say? I'm not sure I'd count on that blanket statement if I were you, especially considering that there's no evidence that the runes were even in use at the time of Tacitus. The oldest runic inscription known is a man writing his name, Harja, on a comb, and that's from the 2nd century CE, well after Tacitus wrote "The Agricola and the Germania." In any case, the traditional uses of runes were writing or magic. "Whatever works" is a useless meme.
@uktransplantedyank Unfortunately though I find this particular conversation pretty boring as my interest lays not in attempting to preserve or re-create a religion based solely upon archeology or politically biased Roman writings. So as such I won't be continuing with this conversation or listing endless sources, they are all out there to be found if that is your interest. I simply have too much else going on in my life that is of interest to have time. I'm sure you understand.
@uktransplantedyank I objected to your rudeness and name calling as I felt it was pointless and like many posts on the internet, cowardly. Freya makes very clear in her books that much of what is written is personal insight and revelation and as such I really feel that it can't be touched. She is careful not to present personal revelation as having been supported by archaeological evidence. She is not and does not claim (thankfully) to be an academic.
What's actually cowardly is your attempt to weasel out of a factual inquiry by claiming superior knowledge without displaying it, and then flouncing out of the argument. My facts on the runes are actually correct and a simple examination of academic sources will confirm that. As for Aswynn, good luck to you if you think her worthwhile. As for "divine couplings," it's not hieros gamos I'm on about - I'm on about gods and humans marrying, which didn't take place in Germanic lore.
You know what's tedious? Your continued condescension without backing your claim to superior knowledge. In my experience this is usually a cover for a *lack* of knowledge. Bye bye - come back when you actually know something.
@uktransplantedyank I've scanned over your uploads, you have too much time on your hands, Go and study. I have made a study of occult related subjects for the last 29 years and have a BA Hons (2:1) - Ancient and medieval history and culture (Trinity College Dublin). I have done my homework, but am unfortunately not predisposed to help anyone as obnoxious as yourself.
Again, you claim superior experience and knowledge without substantiating either, and you heap ad hominems on top of your claim. Either back up your assertions, or shut up.
And with that post and your previous post, you're only projecting your own faults onto me. You completely lost any sliver of respect I may have still had for you when you made the assumption that I somehow "needed help" because I dared to prove you wrong about runic divination. Find yourself another video to haunt, fluffbunny - your spurious claims don't wash here.
@uktransplantedyank You seem to have misread the situation. I engaged with you because you are rude and obnoxious, not because I have any interest in educating you, giving you anything, or helping you with your personal development. I simply wished to tell you from an experienced point of view that you are firstly.. wrong, and secondly.. rude. I would prefer to leave you in your present state. If you want something, work for it as I did.
Actually, if anyone's misread the situation, you have. You're the one who's rude and obnoxious, and you're the one who needs to be educated. I asked you to prove your assertion that I'm somehow wrong, and you got your knickers in a twist. Your so-called "experienced" point of view is so much ad hominems, defensive posturing, and general childishness. You're the one who's wrong, you're the one who's rude, and you're the one who needs to work for accurate knowledge.
Oh, and I'm interested in your academic sources about these "mystical couplings" that supposedly existed. I'm also interested in your sources for the "pre-wiccan versions of the great rite."
@uktransplantedyank If you are unaware of divine/human couplings in mythology and ritual then there is nothing I can do for you as you obviously haven't looked hard enough (or at all). Yes I would say i have a bias in favour of Freya's work because having met her I sensed her to be coming from the right place, very alive, vibrant and powerful. As regards the historical use of the runes your facts are wrong. I am qualified to say this having studied the subject at university. Cont.
@uktransplantedyank In my opinion it is always the artist and never the art. Freya is by her own admission not an academic, and as she will explain, much of her writings are a personal revelation and claim no basis in academic research. This said I have found very few inaccuracies in her writing, as she clearly states that much of her work his purely her opinion. Freya is a powerful individual with a strong spirit. Meet her and raise your points, I'm sure you'll find out.
She hes strong energy. And I feel it, but some kind of negative energy. But anyway it's a good interview and would love to hear more and more of them! thx!!!

@emmalinabear
1) She claims to be "married to Odin." That's just a bit unhinged.
2) She treats the thoroughly modern concept of runic divination like it' was ancient (Ralph Blum invented the damn thing).
3) Her casual "buddy buddy" approach to the gods completely ignores ancestors, land-wights, and most importantly family.
