  • why do you change your voice nurdrage

  • Ahh great for my shake and bake meth lab

  • any tips? i spent over a half an hour squeezing the damn tip with no success, what am i doing wrong?

  • Comment removed

  • Nice experiment! Easy to find material and easy to perform.

  • this guy is lukes father no doubt

  • Easy way to pinch oneself lol

  • ive seen this done by meth cooks in half the time

  • what does lithium do

  • holy shit that glows so fucking bright and hot o.O

what if the US gets a retarded idea to make bombs out of that shit??

  • Just a word of advice to anyone that wishes to attempt this experiment. Make sure that when you throw away the iron disulfate it is sealed in an airtight bad. It reeks to high hell.

  • That burn piece of lithium really looked like some massive fiery explosion happened a few seconds ago, viewed from a height. :D

  • the first Set of elements are EXTREMLY reactive to water. and i do beleive since they only have 1 electron, they wanna give it away and make a reaction. thats why its so destructive. Check out Sodium Bombs on youtubes

  • What exactly is lthium metal, and what is its use, im not exactly a chemist, so im kinda learning a bit here.

  • @Macemack lithium is the lightest of the alkali metals, a lithium atom is only slightly heavier than helium. Because of its structure, it's very reactive with water. For more info: search alkalimetals on google :p

  • @Macemack "Lithium metal" is a metal which is made mainly from the metal "Lithium".

One use for the metal "Lithium" is as one of the components in lithium batteries, or "cells". As you may have guessed, I am not exactly a chemist either - but would you trust anyone on Youtube who was boasting that he was, and then proceeded to set fire to a pile of lithium ? !

Burning lithium cannot be extinguished by conventional means, and consequently can be extreemly dangerous. Don't mess about with it !

  • Nurdrage, the pre-1080p years.

  • Watching this video frightens me when hes ripping apart the batter in fast motion with the timelapse.... im so scared hes gonna stab the shit out of his hand even though i know in reality he's not moving that fast lol

  • It's funny when your last name is Lithium

  • the stuff inside it not exactly healthy, but not exactly bad for you, so eat up!

  • thanks u assisted me in my meth making process

  • So, Now I know what to do when my power goes out ?

  • I kept thinking Anton Chigurh was telling me how to get lithium metal from a battery.

  • 2 weeks later...

WHAT DO YOU MEAN I HAVE CANCER!!??

  • @NarutoPremier lithium doesn't give you cancer dude....

  • @Skitzo520 what about the other materials in it then?

  • :rainbowdashsoawesome:

  • cast away, i must have a lithium battery if that happens to me.

  • Subscribe, rate, OR comment? You want me to CHOOSE?!

    Great videos dude. B)

  • why is your glove burnt? please reply.

    thanks.

  • twas like looking into the sun. that made me lol.

  • is there any "practical" use for Lithium? imean using it for some kind of useful or useless but cool method assuming that you are the average joe or atleast the average joe with an "amateur" shop/lab

  • @Emeengor yeh you can kinda use it for power ... like batterys and such, ya know?

  • U, person in high school needing a demonstration, can make lithium metal-I did in H.S. in '77-read it in library book that was old even then: Teacher, (once my wrestling coach,) dug it!-said I had "all the moves" which he never said 2 me in WRESTLING-Need: LiCl, crucible, Bunsen burner (BARELY hot 'nuf, maybe MAPP gas nowdays?) & power supply. Hook(+) wire (6V ok) to graphite rod, (-) wire to an iron wire w/ small loop. Melt LiCl; dip graphite & loop in crucible, metalic lithium forms on loop

  • Bill Nye told me that batteries were just hotdogs in flashlights.

  • It looked fucking amazing at the end

  • How the !!!FUCK!!! did I go from Looking at people take nut shots via Parkour and BMX to this boobs, then to fail female drivers then to this....?

  • well i followed the instrutions but half way through, my dog farted, scared the shit out of my cat and is now missing most of his arse, but who cares i got a shit load of lithium.

    ronlmfao.

  • My house is on fire but i have this amazing piece of litium.

  • cant buy lithium on the street but you can go to a store and buy it........wow america...just wow

  • 3:33 - Looks like a bunch of tiny nukes!

  • ah the amount of stupid shit you should never do lying around on the internet

  • @chuckles731 not if u dont know WHAT ur doing or the reactions of materials.

  • "To burn it, simply set it on fire with a torch."

  • @SilaconYT Mr.Obivious on the go!

  • @russotragik I KNOW :D. im tempted to do a voice over with "BURN IT WITH FIA!"

  • @SilaconYT #LOL

burning with water would be a little impossible without sodium!

  • @russotragik >:| When it burns.. its not the water that burns, ITS THE SODIUM. AND THE PRODUCTS D:<

  • At 00:59 it looks like something is squirting out of the battery.

  • I store mine in mineral oil, allows long term storage

  • i did it with samsung e250 li-ion battery it is not lithium it doesn't react with water and it is yellow like copper what could it be?Is there any threat for inhaling iron disulfide?

  • @TheCamcama That's possible. Anyway, you should ALWAYS wear atleast a gas mask. You shouldn't breathe metal, especially not metal from batteries :)

  • @Whyamibzsdmh So what kind of threat is possible :D

  • @TheCamcama Cancer? lol. Lung failure, etc. How about going trough an airport? They will belive you have some short of bomb in your lungs :D

  • @Whyamibzsdmh lol die to infidels i am a suicide bomber :D

  • @TheCamcama lolololololol

  • lol, my parents aren't going to like this one XD

  • Did u put the goggles on during the experemint?

  • "To burn it, just set it on fire"

No, I wouldn't have guessed that...

  • What happens if u swallow it?

  • @Mobydick648 It treats bipolar syndrom

  • Is the light close to UV?

  • Does this work with used batteries?

  • ive got alot of damaged LiPo batteries full of lithium , maybe some day

  • omg that's soo cool

  • i'm scared of Lithium!

  • what the fuck am i doing here

  • damn 4th of july im making bright flash fireworks

  • i fucking love you

  • It looked like a mini multi-atomic-bomb back at the end.

  • @NurdRage can i keep the lithium somewhere safe,so it won't be any reaction with the air?

  • @dimitris0379 keep it in a bottle of kerosine.

  • @kiranrajkeralaboy can i just keep it in a plastic bottle?(because as i hear it the bottle of kerosine it must cost much money,i do't know,i justy gues)

  • @dimitris0379 Kerosine i very cheap only 2 dollars for an entire gallon and it is cheaper in other countries.

  • How much does this 4 battery pack cost?

  • @Donciulis like 15$ for a 4 pack of AA's, pretty costly but ya might be able to get them at a better price near you

  • new type of lightbulb =D

  • yusss hahahahahah im top comment i win

  • fellow nerds?

  • yeah i tried it and dark brown fluid came out when i took the first part out and i couldnt reach the outer layer so i soaked it in water than set it outside for a day then through it away

  • Cool

  • Lithium is very reactive, like aluminum. So why does it not spontaneously react with the positive electrode chemicals and rapidly self discharge, when not in use? Why are there no aluminum batteries?

  • @definitionofis because aluminum is not an alkali metal

  • @definitionofis Lithium is naturally Positive; hence why its used in batteries.

  • Fun, but i found lithium in a duracell battery?!?!

  • Comment removed

  • because we never wouldve guessed there'd be lithium in a lithium battery

  • ohhh, this is why you don't dump batteries in the ocean trololololol

  • 9 for the best part

  • Wow, I never knew there was THAT much stuff inside a battery.

  • @Imerjensi pan american lithium next big booom... there stock is a penny jump on i have two million shares

  • when a battery shortens out when it cools down can you still get the lithium from the battery

  • why exactly would you need to do this ?!? lol

  • Will advanced lithium work

  • @goker55 It should. It's the same chemistry as the Ultimate Lithium, but there's less lithium in the Advanced type.

  • Whats the most you coin toss?

  • That's cool, I could definitely use this for making hydrogen faster than electrolysys.

  • Q tips for arts and craft, baby care, health care, and gun maintenance for war.

Lithium for making water boil, bright white lights, and crystal meth production.

Amazing how many uses for a simple battery and a q tip lmao...

  • i touched the lithium bare handed in all of my 6 battery disassembly, will i die?

  • @uxa1 yes...eventually

  • @myspiritsense YAY!!

  • @uxa1 yes

  • Can I just put it in my microwave?

  • Is that your real voice, or you use a device to make it deeper 0_o

  • Could the lithium be stored in a fluid such as an oil to keep it from tarnishing?

  • @Flashfire97 i think that you have to store it in a vial with mineral oil or paraffin oil

  • ive got a tumor now but ive also got heaps of kickass litium

  • @GunnerAlpha1 hope it goes away!

  • @GunnerAlpha1 Ohhhhh, I'm a tumah, I'm a tumah, I'm a tumah. I'm a tumah, I'm a tumah, I'm a tumah! Oh oh, I'm a tumor!

  • @GunnerAlpha1 this doesn't give cancer smart ass its not radioactive

  • @unthergunthermunther Carcinogenic materials can cause cancer "smart ass".

  • @GunnerAlpha1 Once you state the chemicals that give cancer in the battery ill be gladly to agree with you...

there's VERY small amounts of Arsenic which is said to cause cancer. Also Arsenic is found in your drinking water and most of the food you eat.

second Lithium hexafluoroarsenate which is said to cause cancer not proven yet.

    i bet there's a 0.3% chance of getting cancer

  • step 5 to making meth dumb ass

  • tank you, it's so interesting

  • where can lithium be stored

  • Comment removed

  • LOL! i did this with about 3 of those and burnt all of the lithium outside on the street in the middle of the night and woke up everyone on the block!

  • cooking 4 junkies

  • Ugh, I'm not doing this for my science project. D:

  • If i use Lithium ion? or laptop batteries ill it work?

  • @urzaspath1234 Lithium Ion Batteries do not contain Lithium metal, as the name suggests. They contain Li+ ions, not Li. They work on totally different principles.

  • Most of baterys contain horibly toxic chemicals (mostly heavy metals) that amongst ruining your health, also significantly reduce inteligence by kiling nerve cells extremly eficiently!

So.. I poison my self to get lithium with wich i am going to do what? BURN IT? And that is it?!?!

  • @OleDiaBole Your comment applies only to fools who do this without adequate safety precautions (fumehood, gloves, lab coat and goggles). Anyhow, sorry to crush your comment but Lithium-Iron Disulphide Batteries don't contain significant concentrations of Heavy Metals. Research them. Here's a link: Anyhow, if you need proof, here's the official link:data.energizer.c o m/PDFs/lithiumirondisulfide_psds.pdf

I bet this battery has lesser Mercury than a bowl of Shark Fin Soup -.-

  • Disregard warnings acquire lithium metal.

  • Way cooler than kipkay's battery hack!

  • why would anyone need to do this?

  • BTW i also tried potassium chloride and sodium chloride and it worked (look below)

  • @NurdRage OMG I tried to reduce sodium from sodium hydroxide to sodium metal using burning lithium metal. And guess what? I got sodium metal! And then I attempted to reduce Potassium from KOH, and I actually got Potassium Metal! Nurdrage, I heard you are going to make video to show how to make potassium metal. Well, I hope this helps you!

  • The chemical isn't lithium metal, its lithium perchlorate, I've seen the manufacturing process. The salt can still be used for possible lab experiments, but is not pure lithium. For pure lithium, try finding an online chemical provider, such as united nuclear, or sigma aldrich. (

    (Sorry to crush expectations.)

  • @pyroscience42 Li metal batteries exist, as well as Li-ion batteries, or am I mistaken? Why is perchlorate used as a counter ion as opposed to say Chloride, is it because of it's oxidative properties?

  • @cptorangutang2 Im not 100% sure, because I haven't studied chemistry too long. I got my source from one of the chemists (in person) who manufactured the lithium perchlorate directly for lithium ion batteries, and energizer......however, there may be more types of lithium ions, due to the recipe is fairly secret. There may be some batteries with lithium metal in them, but im not 100 % sure....sorry

  • I tried this at school. I heeded the warning of the light when burning it, I had protective glasses, friends of mine didn't, yet we still were all like ''HOLY CRAP HOW DOES THAT SMALL PIECE GENERATE SO MUCH LIGHT''

  • i did this perfectly except for the chemicals made holes in my fingers haha

  • i've gotten iron disulfide on my skin. how do i remove it?

  • Liked it very much! How can one store the lithium for a long time like 1 week or month, etc?

  • @apoteker01 I believe when I was in high school, the teacher stored these light metals, which are all extremely reactive (so never found free in nature) in OIL to keep the air completely away from them. I suppose a very small bottle with a good lid would do the same. Sodium (more wild than lithium) was stored that way; prob'ly potassium metal also; they actually LIGHT ON FIRE in water, as hydrogen plus heat are created, so I bet oil would do it with lithium. They also lit up MAGNESIUM -BRIGHT!

  • @outdoorjanitor (You might want to use MINERAL or MOTOR oil (petroleum based) or 3 in 1 type lubricating oil, it occurs to me that the natural cooking oils might be tried after reading my post and another I just discovered; but I think the natural oils may contain enough non-carbon/hydrogen bonds, with, say, alcohols or glycerin or other more biological groups that the light metals might start to take the natural oils apart the same way they take water apart!

  • you have very fast hands, sir:)

  • Great Videos! It would seem that two opposing longitudinal cuts with a hacksaw, in a vise, would be more effective.

  • ok, why do we need lithium?

  • @5z2z various scientific endeavours, and simple curiosity; not to mention methamphetamine production...jokes

  • I remember I had one of these battery's in my pocket and heated up and burnt my finger

  • What other cool things can one do with the lithium metal, like other reaction with common chemicals?

  • @madeofyou1 It is cool to add lithium to water, as he did, see it remove hydrogen from the water molecules--creating bubbles, which you can catch by stretching balloon over small bottle where reaction is happening--& light the balloon after tying it -BANG- then test the "broth" (water) which now has lots of THE-OTHER-half-of-the-water-molecules, i.e. OH ions, commonly found when mixing LYE w/water...Its very ALKALINE-use it alternately w/ vinegar & turn boiled purple cabbage water blue or purple

  • ive been kind of wondering for a while now, but oviusly your voice isnt that deep, just what type of device are you using to adjust the pitch that low, is it a hardware device voice pitch bender or is it recorded threw the computer and manipulated using software, either way its an extremely good quality pitch bend very clear ;)

  • if you keep the lithium in oil it wont corrode and will preserve it

  • pretty sure nurdrage is a chick

  • @nurdrage I looked up the reduction potentials of lithium and sodium and found that lithium is less electronegative than sodium. So, is it possible to use the lithium metal obtained to extract sodium metal from molten sodium hydroxide?

  • Why do you disguise your voice?!

  • @TheIlluminatus503 might have a stupid voice

  • Lithium reacts with nitrogen air to form lithium nitride which smells terrible

  • lithium should burn with red color

  • i know were to get hydrogen!!!!

  • ADVERTISING! you should ask for a commission

  • Looked like nuke

  • my torch only gives off light, not burn stuff like yours :C. HELP??

  • i try this and it smells awe full

  • I LOVE the video's but no offense, you sound just like the guy saying "Put the Lotion in the Basket!", not sure who that actor is :)

  • omg

  • DO NOT WASH THE LITHIUM UNDER THE TAP or do, i dont care

  • So what do we store the lithium in after we remove it from the battery?

  • @Tex012able mineral oil or cooking oil

  • @Tex012able a tightly sealed container, preferably with mineral oil inside.

  • Can I use Energizer Advanced Lithium batteries?

  • thanks

  • incredible insight

  • will it work with regular AA's?

  • @BowHunt1229 The batteries need a lithium core. It's all about the lithium.

  • By burning the lithium, you released the battery's energy in light form =D

    Right?

  • @guyboy625 Yeah and heat, and some of it reacts with the air and create some other molecules

  • NO......Dont do this.........its stupid

  • isn't the iron disulfide ground up pyrite?

  • @aggierockhunter it's a molecule of 1 iron atom and 2 sulfur atoms

  • @live2invent I know. and 1 iron and 2 sulfurs equal either pyrite or marcasite...

  • "It lit up the enitre lab!".....(His Grandmas basement)

  • Probably took him 20mins to do this in real life. It'd probably take me 2 hours and end up failing lol. I'll pass.
