  • i dont see how this film is radical. now if i watched any of the films by trey parker and matt stone, thats what i call radical

  • @MANDYPERY

In 1957 those Americans who defied the US State Department's ban on travel to China had their passports taken away, mail opened, were watched by the FBI & CIA, etc. Today you can go to China, even go to school or work there, with no difficulty. Try studying history. Knowledge of the past can help one understand the present.

  • oh this is good! thanks for posting

  • this is much better than most journalism today.

  • did china and USA establish diplomatic relations at that time?

  • The Us and China reestablished relations on January 1, 1979.

  • this is what i call true journalism....

  • he sound more like bruce lee

  • they've slowed from 12% growth to 8% thats not really a recession O_o infact america in its golden age in the 50's never had 8% growth

  • Thank you for posting this vedio! It's awesome to watch these old scenes again.

  • Robert Cohen did a great professional work on China in 1950s. Nowadays journalists are more profit-driven and less professional.

  • Great video, thanks!

  • Wow -- thank you for posting this!

  • good video!

  • thank you for posting this video.

  • If the economy continues moving at the same rate,China should overtake Japan as second in 2012 and should replace the U.S.A as the world's largest economy & superpower on earth in 2030,meaning that the U.S.A will have been the world's superpower for[90years].Great Britain was the world's biggest economy & superpower, they replaced China from Mar1736 till Nov1940 [204years]. China & India was the world's richest nation & superpower from 2500BC till March1736 ,they may come back again.

  • I have never seen this vedio before. While we often heard from old people that 50's in china was very good, people were full of passion to build our country.however, things changed since 1958.

  • The Chinese may of made their ships by hand, but their nonetheless worse than the U.S, because Chinese have a good work ethic.

  • Great posting, thanks.

Do you what year in the 1960's the naration was added?

Before the cultural revolution (1966)I guess.

    Thanks again.

  • Narration added in 1961 for "Special Of The Week" syndicated series version.

  • unbelievable !how did the reporter get into china during that period ?

  • Nine days on the Trans-Siberian Railway from Moscow to Beijing - in defiance of the US State Department's travel ban.

  • Amazing video. For a Cold War American video it actually presents Communism in a positive light. It makes it evident that a Communist leadership helped China out of the dark ages and into the future.

  • The free Education that was available in Communist China was free till 1979 when the US establish full diplomatic relations and started to heavily invested in that country up to the present

  • The travel ban on Americans Traveling to Communist China was lifted sometime before or after Nixon visited that country in 1972.

  • Amazing! Thanks for posting this piece of history!

  • the 1957 date is wrong..this was done in the 1960's..there are at least two references to the dates.

  • The scenes were filmed in 1957 as a series of silent news reports; and shown throughout the USA & Canada as a film-lecture. The sound track-narration was added in the 1960s when it was televised as part of the Walter Reade/Sterling SPECIAL OF THE WEEK series.

  • if you look at 28:35 you can see the pre-59 flag of the GDR (which was the same as the one of West Germany at this time)

  • Hearing these old terms is pretty interesting: Peking, Formosa. Really shows the changes in our view of this country.

  • Rare!!

  • good video!

  • CHina still has the same problems today

  • Nice video thanks for posting
