Yes you can. Doing a dive isn't too hard, you just have to get used to jumping with your weight centered or even forward instead of leaning way back like you see most people do. Footholds make it way easier but aren't completely necessary.

Freestyle isn't like racing, wearing a helmet is a like carrying a sinker when you plunge under the waves. Your helmet has to drain and is more weight on your head to throw around while doing a barrel roll or submarine.

Helmets are standard equipment whenever we go our riding, marine helmets are available (similar to those for wakeboarding and they drain very fast, we ride in the river and have alot of snags and other obstacles.

did you see how Earnheardt died? think of the fast stops when they hit the water, there are some situations that helmets don't actually make it safer! This isn't a motorcycle, if you tip over, you swim back to your ski and your fine!

if you want to get into freestyle...AT LEAST get a Kaw 750....more prefirably a 650 or 701 superjet. you wont be able to back flicp on a 550 or 650 Kaw.
