@tubeman25 i highly recommend the other albums, especially up to the remote part. but be aware that the band is definitely versatile, and kept growing, and the music does change over the course of the albums. this is not a bad thing, but it may not be what you expect, given the first album.
@JackVannet I have seen both bands, and think Biffy Clyro have been in some ways more interesting. But Mr Woomble's solo and colaboration work shows that he could well be Scotland's best contemporary singer-songwriter. So I only half agree with you, Jack. Your opinion is worth at least as much as mine, though.
Hi - when I discovered Idlewild, it was like 'OK I guess I do still like loud music'.
When I first heard Before the Ruin, I did not even make the connection to Idlewild at first. I have since seen him live twice. I think his album b4 the ruin is my favourite album of the decade. I like My Secret is my Silence a lot too.
amazing. I love this song. I didnt realise how well known it was to be honest........ its in films?? it deserves to be tho! Such a good chilled out song......
This is such an amazing song!! Saw idlewild at Belladrum last year.... fab!! Roddy Woomble has a solo album, he sings alot about Scotland... if you like Idlewild you'll love his solo album, there is alot of meaningful music on there.
I first saw idlewild at Leeds Festival 2000, never had any of their stuff before that, but I caught up with it all after that set. Loved them ever since.
Shame....I saw them supprt REM at Old Trafford, only seemed to be me who had heard of them. Wasted on the British public, they would rather listen dire crap like the arctuic monkeys and the fratellis
Dont let this band die!! get out to the gigs,They are fucking magical. Songs from the heart are a rare thing!! Cold play, snow patrol, killers, Is that what you want??????????????????
I first saw Idlewild live when they supported R.E.M. live at Ispwich in 2005. American English was the 1st song i heard by them which i love, but seeing them live made me release what a great band they were, and made me buy their albums.
I had never heard of Idlewild until I went to see Placebo some years back. I ended up enjoying them so much that I bough the two cd's they had for sale as well as a shirt. Never before have I done this for an opening act. Anyone who hasn't heard of Idlewild is missing out on some of the best music around.
And have you noticed he's actually singing in his own accent now? The early albums he does what every British band growing up listening to American bands does and that's sing in an American accent coz it's all you've heard. I love the fact he's letting his Scottish accent come through now. Most noticeable on the 2nd verse of You Held the World....I think. Deffo agree tho, voice has improved with age.
He spent a lot of time in the states when he was growing up though - I think its forgivable. I dont hear it personally. I like that he sings more softly now - he's less tense, I think.
i love all those bands. If you want overrated look at the charts.Coldplay are average at best. kiaser chiefs....all songs sound the same and dont get me started on the Hoosiers and Scouting For Girls.
there a totally under rated band, we live in Cumbria and it seems like whenever i say to people I like Idlewild there like "who are they? are they new?"
I love band music and in my opinion there on par with people like Stereophonics, Feeder etc but its just because they are less commercial and I would hate to see them commericialised like the Phonics have! its part of their charm

Roddy's voice is so unique. It would be cool if they made an acoustic album of some of their songs. I haven't noticed any yet.

one of the few bands that had progression throughout their albums and although they are all idlewild they are also very different styleistically.
