did this route 2 years ago with the Aonachs on a 2-dayer.Starting round the back on Glen Nevis up to the saddle between CMD and the Aonachs,we left the bags and headed up the 400m shoulder of Aonach Mor in whiteout conditions, camped near the saddle and did the CMD the next day. Those views of Nevis north face are awesome and its a far better climb than the pony track.I found the arete no worse than striding edge in the lakes, tho much longer and the final pull to Nevis is a killer!
i'm doing this in May...via the CMD arete. looking at the pics and my OS map, it appears that the final 300-400m has a very steep climb. is this the case? the pics imply that maybe it's a scramble with ropes needed. am i missing something? i am up for a very strenuous walk and some navigation skills....but climbing up the final face at the peak of Ben Nevis is a bit beyond what i had in mind. no climbing experience
Nice to see the top in all its glory. Went up in August, couldn't see boff all. Rained all the way up, but the sense of achievement is great, and had a lovely fillet steak and a bottle of red when I got back down! Took the mountain pass, which is longer but not as tough, apparently they drove a model t ford up there in 1911.
a word of advice for the "mountain path" really - dont bother with it - better off getting a bit more confident and then taking the CMD - this makes it worth doing, better views, not droves and droves of people, a much more magnificent day.

Hi I know what you mean the end looks a lot harder than it is, you will not need a rope just be careful if its windy. Have fun it's a great route.

That thin ridge (or what looks like a thin ridge), do you have to walk that to reach the summit?
Karenenglishrose 4 years ago
Yes you do, but its not to bad when you get on it.

only if you approach from Carn Mor. If you take the pony track up then no you dont take the arete

Great place, please visit again, I do, year after year! Try out the BenNevisWhisky, Just 14 Miles north, I think the best West Malt we have to offer.

I was interested to know is the small boy a cut out and do you have plans for a sequel !!!!
getamonkstit 4 years ago
The boy is a full scale replica of golem.
As for a sequel that seems certain and maybe a prequel brother.
