honestly electrum zephyr aphex twin started IDM and turned edm into something that is actully listenable to the people that hate mainstream shit...so if you can do that hes on the level of mozart or bach 2 me and i would consider them gods
Some people might have misconstrued what I said about making music like Aphex Twin. 1) I just want to make music in this genre. 2) I'm probably committing fandom heresy by saying this, but Aphex Twin is not God. I love his music as much as the next guy, but some of you (I won't name names) are taking it WAY too seriously. Chill out with that.
And don't move the goalposts and bitch about how "I should have been more lucid". Most of you are grown-ups. You know how to apply critical thinking.
@ElectrumZephyr I completely understand what you mean. The best way to expand your musical skills is to listen to awesome music and figure out how they compose their songs. Then you evolve your style with what you learn from those songs. Aphex twin > most college music classes
@ElectrumZephyr Your not thinking seriously enough :B Aphex is totally god... and all those who oppose his radical freeform sweet hawt jams are not worthy of brains at all. This is fact... All you gotta do is feel the music and it all becomes clear.
i swear it is my mission in life to get a collection of chaos pads and some serious sustain and fuzz, plus a phat Bass and learn to play the bass line on this :)
@danonsko Nobody can become like Aphex because he's one of the very pioneers, automatically becoming number-one-hotshot. But there are artists that have worked even harder on their mixes (Infected Mushroom at least). Their work from the 90's to somewhere around 2001-2002 is just inhuman. Cleanest mixing and most detailed electronic music in existance. 85-92 album is the best I've heard from AT, also being probably the best ambient music collection.
I'm remixing this now right. And it's not a cheesefest although I could never come near this without the original sounds. Just a light warm-hearted trance remix. Slow bpm too. Thinking 128.
@pollocknyc all sarcasm aside, it is possible to reach Beethoven's artistic level. if u set ur mind to it u may be able to. people act like its impossible to compose music like that, but if its impossible then how did the original person do it? so just sayin, the dude ur making fun of may have a talent but just doesnt have the materials to make the music. or maybe he's just cocky, but im givin him the benefit of the doubt here.
@Mayokitty7 yeah same here i love metal but i just feel that aphex twin squarepusher and others just bring to music something that not another genre can. some pieces are extremely complex but some like this one are rather simple but the emotions reveled through them are just impressive. this music is truly genius. metal is good, but i like this better.
If you were in Orlando in 1995 you would understand. The Edge, Firestone, and free kisses. Just have fun. Why in the hell do you go out anymore? Drop that shit!
this makes me think about aphex twin and all of his rave master ninja friends sitting around in a basement somewhere smoking a bong and playing sega dreamcast
I already loved this song, but I was really blown away when I realised that it was from 1985-1992. Shit's so far ahead of it's time, it's still fresh and exciting today!
@ElectrumZephyr don't make excuses for yourself! just go out and do with what you have...its incredibly easy to make music like this these days if you're clever

Shit man listening to this on youtube does not do it justice! Buy this album it will be the best spend money youve ever dished out. EVER! Its simply a "timeless masterpiece" as one user put it.
Excellent - I heard this on a documentary the other day and remembered it from the 'Future Shocks' video (old trippy 90's VHS 'chillout' visuals!). Agree with other comments also in that a good deal of his other stuff is too experimental to evoke the sort of emotional response I get from this track. As a psytrance producer and DJ (hobbyist), I think it's incredible how this track hasn't aged one bit, unlike other ambient music - thanks for the post!
@GSVNotInventedHere aphex has never ever made rubbish in his life. People have made rubbish of their life until they had the chance to listen to ten seconds of aphex
