theres something about the dudes voice that just urks me. like too heady or something idk it just seems like better voices come from the full diaphragm breathing technique :) shit sounds too much like he has a head cold lol musics good tho
@bigdtokintree93yo - it's just like the day you finally succumb to Bob Dylan's harmonica. At first it really got to you, but then one day... It makes sense, and then you can't imagine any song without it. That's what I think about his lyrics. at first, eh.. but now.. it's the only thing that works
i saw them live last night. it was incredible. it was cool seeing all of them in person. then erin was just on the street with a guitar getting something out of their van. haha, if there's a band like that, everyone should listen to them.
@infamousNfamous Indie isn't a genre despite the widely accepted misconception. It's a type of record label, in which case Maps & Atlases actually is Indie, but it doesn't define their sound. Just clearing that up, but otherwise I would think they have a league of their own. Awesome band.
@AdamJones514 I didn't say it was a genre ;) my mashup of words was their 'genre'. I do agree that they have a sound of their own, I was just saying that the person that said "This is some hipster shit right here" is a dumb fuck for thinking they are hipsters or a part of the "indie" movement associated with them. Read my comment in context ;)
@AdamJones514 Indie is definitely a genre of music (and a record label type) in the same way that Christian has become a genre of music. Saying that indie isn't a genre is stupid when there are millions of indie bands proclaiming that they are indie, and are then accepted by all of their fans, except you, as indie.
@Colenelly Why should we label bands at all? My point is that there are so many different types of "Indie" bands that sound completely different. There are so many different styles associated with "Indie" that I think by labeling an artist, you limit their individuality.
@AdamJones514 I'm not even a person that worries about genres of bands, I'm not worried if M&A is indie or not. Putting a band in a genre limits them in no way, they won't stop making music that sounds like their band if someone calls them indie, hipster, bullshit, etc. I think you're just far too concerned with genre.
You shouldn't say that something is false just because you think that a word can only have one meaning, that's how stupidity is displayed.
@Colenelly Not limiting to the band, but you limit their audience's perception. If you categorize music, an audience would expect bands in the same category to have similar qualities. Indie is so broad a label, that it's ridiculous to try to fit bands into. Every band is artistically unique.
@Colenelly If someone calls a band whatever it matters not, but if a band is understood collectively as a genre you bring forth expectations from an audience of what that band is supposed to sound like. Besides, the genre comes from the label. I do believe that everything that comes from an Indie label will be in the Indie genre, and few things with a major label (unless the band started with an indie label) will be in the indie genre. So, what's the point of making a genre for Indie?
@Colenelly However, despite all of this. I must admit that it's kind of irrelevant that I make an argument such as this to a bunch of people whom are well aware of who Maps And Atlases is and whom I believe to have awesome taste in music.

@Colenelly and one other thing: you should never accept something as true just because everybody else says so. That's how ignorance is born.
