I love this version by Mr. Tagliavini...contemplative, reflective even sung a slightly quicker tempo than most others. The end, especially, drives right into my heart. He doesn't force it yet he brings it home and carries you right along with him. I melt whenever I hear him sing this.

Se si potesse provare che Puccini abbia richiesto per TOSCA un tenore spinto, sarei d'accordo. Però si legge "E lucevan le stelle" è una ROMANZA per TENORE. (Senza categoria). Tagliavini canta una romanza. Senti "discioliea dai veli!";(anche Corelli fa lo stesso); poi però "spinge" (spinto!) la voce con meraviglosa tecnica su un fiato nel drammatico. Cosa voi altro? Se deve capire cosa vuol dire "Vissi d'arte!" Tagliavini lo sapeva!

Cavaradossi = M. Del monaco / F. Corelli / G. Raimondi / F. Bonisolli / P. Domingo ( ... ) e altre voi un po' più SPINTE / DRAMMATICHE. Tutti questi falsettini, falsettoni, falsetti, voci miste etc. sono autenticamente fuori luogo. Un conto è una mezza voce, un conto è questo miscuglio di suoni ibridi che non sta né in cielo né in terra. Una sorta di Gigli " miniaturizzato " ma con MOLTI meno pregi.

Chi non sa distinguere cosa c'è "l'arte" di cantare non dovrebbe postare commenti senza sapere del che della musica. Tagliavini sa usare il suo "strumento" alla perfezione come nessun altro. Che dinamica rivela anche con un filo di voce. Canta tutto su una linea bel legata e tutto su un respiro, cantando con molto estetica.

Uno dei interpreti più credibili.

@gundhari : questo è repertorio pucciniano puro, adatto a tenori drammatici o, tutt'al più, lirico-spinti. Che Tagliavini qui fosse palesemente fuori repertorio e fuori ruolo credo proprio che sia un dato di fatto. Sul fatto poi che a lei possa piacere non discuto. Dimenticavo : uno degli interpreti più credibili in quest'opera per lei, non per me. Saluti, con il massimo rispetto.

Stile incomparabile, gusto eccelso, intonazione ed emissione perfette. Quest'aria non credo che si possa cantare meglio. F.T. è e resterà uno dei grandi nomi dell'opera di tutti i tempi. Per restare fra tenori lirici, insieme a lui io metto Gigli, Di Stefano, Björling, Gigli, Lanza e, fino alla metà degli anni '80 circa Pavarotti. Ah, dimenticavo un grande nome, ma un mediocre attore: Bergonzi.

carlogic1953 : a parte che si potrebbe molto discutere sul fatto che questa sia la migliore interpretazione di sempre di questa romanza ( c'è di MOLTO meglio, mi creda ; le cito un certo Franco Corelli ), ma, al di là di tutto, lei mi paragona M. Lanza agli altri grandi tenori che ha citato ? Lanza era semplicemente un tenoretto commerciale creato a tavolino dal sistema mediatico americano, uno pseudo-tenore in altre parole, che non aveva praticamente mai cantato in un'opera. Saluti.

Ferruccio tagliavini ist einfach der beste Tenor des 20ten Jahrhunderts...Für mich ist er sogar besser als Großmeister Caruso...

Bravo! Du scheinst wirklich echten Kunstverstand zu haben. Ich hab noch keinen Tenor gehoert, der den Cavaradossi mit soviel Kunstverstand und Aesthetik singt wie Tagliavini. Ein "grosser" Saenger. Ich find Caruso auch nicht das non plus ultra des Gesangs. Er unterliegt mehr einem Fetischismus.

Das denke ich nicht. Wir heutzutage haben Caruso nie in natura singen hören. Alles was wir haben sind 100 Jahre alte, schlechte Aufnahmen die meiner Meinung nach nur 10% von dem wiedergeben was Carusos Stimme wirklich ausgemacht hat. Im Laufe des letzten Jahrhunderts haben viele großartige Tenöre die Bühne der Opernwelt betreten aber ich glaube heute für mich persönlich, daß Enrico Caruso sie mit seiner Stimme alle übertrumpft.

@XemoeX Es liegt nicht an alten Aufnahmen, um Stimmen zu unterscheiden und zu bewerten. Man muss nur um die Kunst des Singens wissen. Toscanini suchte sich gute Musiker auch nur nach dem Hören aus nicht gut übertragenen Radiosendungen aus. Er hatte das musikalische Gehör dafür. Genau das kann der connaisseur aus alten Aufnahmen auch heraushören, und da ist Caruso nun nicht mal der Beste aller Zeiten. Nur ein Mythos.

Wieviele Cavaradossis "E lucevan le stelle" habe ich schon gehört. Doch werde ich wohl nie das Glück haben, einen Cavaradossi wie Tagliavini auf der Bühne zu hören. Sicher nur viel Geschrei und Röhren und Schluchzer . Aber kaum "Kunst" und Schönheit . Tagliavini zeigt, dass eine eigentlich veristische Oper auch "belcano" gesungen werden kann, sogar sehr überzeugend. Auf ihn trifft wirklich zu, was eigentlich Tosca" singt: "Vissi d'arte"!!

My understanding is that just after WW2 Tagliavini introduced American servicemen to opera and was called to the Met to debut.

He sings this beautifully and reflectively because that is what it is and not the heldentenor nonsense that too many tenors go on with. The scene is a few minutes before sunrise and while the sky is still light, the stars can still be seen against a blue sky. Ergo the stars are shining brightly. WONDER!

This wasn´t his repetoar he was a tenore di grazia or light lyric and cavaradossi is a spinto role but it´s always better to sing the arias with your own voice instead of trying to sing like corelli or someone with his hepth and stamina
