@fooxfoot you have starcraft 2 cinematics :D enjoy those cause they're the closest thing to a movie and did you know that a warcraft movie is in the works? :) who knows maybe sometime in the not so distant future a starcraft movie will be made, as for a warhammer movie it is only a matter of time until some good producer will make a decent flick that stays honest to the warhammer lore, try out ultramarines in the meantime, it might not be the best but at least they tried to make it good
If Hollywood makes a movie out of 40k, nothing good will come of it. Sure the budget will be good, but chances are that political correctness crap, stupid interpretations of the universe, and the urge to make Space Marines silly hunks will be too overwhelming and ruin the movie. A budget of larger size would be nice, but smaller company movies fueled more and more by GW would be the best chance at making a masterful 40k movie.
@AdeptusAstartesClan they fought a lot in it O_O i thought the movie was awsome with just £1 million budget. i just thought it needed a dreadnought and tyranids :) if they make a new one it better be tyranids, orks are now used in like every game and they suck in the actual table top game, tyranids are better, cooler and bigger. i mean they almost took over macragge, the space marine homeworld.

@liam157360 yes i mean they almost ate maccrage. 1st company was completley wiped out but are being rebuilt, 2nd company almost wiped out and 4th company has minor damage cuz they where not involved as much in it. the only thing that stopped behemoth from eating the planet was sicarious who bombed their ground forces. then the rest of them retreated. i would say thats a much bigger difference than the orks, cuz the orks only managed to kill 2 space marines, and wound 1 terminator.

Where's a good place to start reading in depth about 40k's current canon? I've read a lot about the happenings from the times of the Techno Barbarians, birth of the Emperor and the end of the Horus Heresy but that's about it.
i never really wanted to see a movie based on sm's. id rather see something about the ig or tau but...that was bad ass... mixing dow stuff with original bits... groovy. but where are all the green screen cut scenes from?

But the whole "Gore! Gore! Chainsaw swords!" Is a little... childish. And GW is marketing more and more to kids these days. Gone are the days of explicit rape, all we have are implications now.
Adult? Hardly. Kids? No. I'd say it's ideally suited to an audience of 14-18 year olds.
@Asylumboy99 Nah, the novels especially those by Abnett, are written for a teenage audience. Like I said, a lot of moral and ethical dilemmas and considerations can be taken from 40k, and it has some interesting takes on utilitarianism... but all that is *inferred* none of it is directly stated. Authors might consider these aspects, but certainly not all. Looking at you, Goto and Ward. And 40k fluff is really going downhill these days with DoWII and Ward...
And then the outside interest in the 40k franchise will either die or cause the Imperial Guard to dethrone the Space Marines as "the guys who have the whole setting revolving around them." Without some injection of personality or drama, the SMs are just a bunch of testerone lactating action figures who are only marketable to the adolescent crowd. Space Marines have a lot of perks, but the potential for dynamic and interesting personalities is one area the Guard beats them.
@commiedeer You can have drama without angst. I realiz I used the wrong term, Drama, as in a good story, character development and so on, are perfect, desirable and is quite possible to do with how SM are generally portrayed as warrior monks. Not much variety, sure, but not impossible.
But that´s not what Relic is doing. No. They make them wangsty teenagers crying over their loss of humanity and other bullshit that is quite clearly stated to be removed through surgery and indoctrination.

Fluff-wise I prefer the surgical tactics of the Raven Guard, the Alpha Legions tendency toward... "unconventional" combat tactics or the Night Lords' Batman-ish approach to combat and consider the Ultras little more than poster boys for the Adeptus Astartes...

But the whole "Gore! Gore! Chainsaw swords!" Is a little... childish. And GW is marketing more and more to kids these days. Gone are the days of explicit rape, all we have are implications now.
Adult? Hardly. Kids? No. I'd say it's ideally suited to an audience of 14-18 year olds.

Like I said, a lot of moral and ethical dilemmas and considerations can be taken from 40k, and it has some interesting takes on utilitarianism... but all that is *inferred* none of it is directly stated. Authors might consider these aspects, but certainly not all. Looking at you, Goto and Ward. And 40k fluff is really going downhill these days with DoWII and Ward...

Without some injection of personality or drama, the SMs are just a bunch of testerone lactating action figures who are only marketable to the adolescent crowd. Space Marines have a lot of perks, but the potential for dynamic and interesting personalities is one area the Guard beats them.

@commiedeer You can have drama without angst. I realiz I used the wrong term, Drama, as in a good story, character development and so on, are perfect, desirable and is quite possible to do with how SM are generally portrayed as warrior monks. Not much variety, sure, but not impossible.
But that´s not what Relic is doing. No. They make them wangsty teenagers crying over their loss of humanity and other bullshit that is quite clearly stated to be removed through surgery and indoctrination.

The chant could even be a simplified recitation of the Ultramarines' Code:
