  • Me too, my parents loved this song and name me, their first born 1952 after this song. They, chose a different spelling, however: Jenneine

  • My name is also Jeannine. My mom named me after her best friend but told me about this song when I was a little girl - a LONG time ago. I am having my 74th birthday today. :)

  • I was also named after this song.

  • i too was named after this song... my grandad sang it to my mum.... how i wish they were both still here so i could play it for them today.. thanks for the memories...

  • Me, Too!! I see that someone else's Mom also changed the spelling (my Mom thought it would be easier when I was young). Mom would sing me the first line, but that was it. I have tears in my eyes to finally hear this song, and wishing my Mom could also hear it. She passed away ten years ago, born in 1924.

  • Thank you for posting this. Like other commenters, I was named after this song!!!!!

  • @jmhave825 It's no problem.

  • For those who would like to sing, here's the lyrics:

    Jeannine, I dream of lilac time;

    Your eyes, they gleam in lilac time.

    Your winning smile and cheeks blushing like a rose,

    Yet all the while you sigh when nobody knows.

    Jeannine, my queen of lilac time,

    When I return I'll make you mine;

    For you and I our love dream can never die,

    Jeannine, I dream of lilac time...

  • I am also a Janine and had not heard this song til today, though in the 1960's, my dentist used to sing it to me!

  • I was named after this song. I have never heard it until now. Wow!

  • Is this the same John McCormick that was married to Colleen Moore who played the starring role of Jeannine in the 1928 silent movie of the same name? I believe he was also the roducer of that movie.

  • Lovely, Irish Tito Schipa.

  • Very nice to hear this! I have a piano roll of it from my grandmother and grew up "playing" it, but have never heard it sung until now.

  • Recorded at Camden NJ on 19th November 1928. The song was composed by Nat Shilkret, who conducted the orchestra for a huge number of Victor recordings.

  • Lyric by L Wolfe Gilbert, Music by Nathaniel Shilkret. Composed as the Theme song for the first national production of LILAC TIME starring Collen Moore

  • I have Irish ancestry also....lol so neat

  • It's funny b/c I never knew anyone with this name growing up....now I am finding different songs with my name in it lol. I love old movies also. I will have to check out ,"Love Never Dies". Thanks for posting it!!!
