I just started racing last year and it was a blast, I had a jetted piped (cut down), yfz 450 with nerf bars and a k/n air filter, that truly is about all you need to start, i dominated my first several races as a beginner bc i had so much more power than some, stock suspension will work for awhile but i upgraded to all +3 longtravel this year and moved up in competition, my biggest advice is wear plenty of gear and go for the W
do you have to have a tether killswitch to race? cause i want to enter my first race :) this year, and whats the speed difference between beginner and inter?
If you have never raced before, all you need is a quad, safety gear(boots helmet etc), and a tether kill switch. I wouldn't race without nerfs, but it is permitted at some amateur events.
If you are any good at riding at all, you will do well. Quad racing is 80% talent 20% equipment IMO.
Check out my vid. I did fairly well last summer on my bone stock 450R (stock tires, engine, suspension, width).
