  • the only thing i dont like about the "fry and laurie" phenomenon is that in America, people just hear "laurie" It really makes me mad that the only person who mentions Stephen is Hugh!

  • There you are right. But I never owned a television and I a mot sure if we have it on Israeli television. I so much like Hugh Laurie there must be good acting in House.

  • Yes, there is definitely something dark about Stephen and Jeeves, and even Wilson from House! It seems Hugh is always a good partner to someone with this kind of darkness, however usually it's not explored as much as it could or should be. It adds a sort of depth to the relationship that I find fascinating.

  • You can't help but love Fry's characters in the Fry and Laurie bits.

  • oO!! The poooor sad people here in the states who were introduced to the genius of the Laurie end of the irrepressible Fry, Laurie Team only after watching House!!! I'm so grateful for my public broadcasting station.(well, the old days!)

because i was lucky enough to grow up on Masterpiece Theatre.

Gussie and his damn newts will be forever in my heart. Such FANTASTIC casting.. Thanks, P.G.... the books are hilarious.. Wodehouse = an absolute staple in any reader's collection.

  • I'm not an admirer of Stephen fry...but he's the 'star' in this show...

  • Does anyone know when this program thing was shown first? I'm guessing post 2004 as Mr Laurie appears to have a Housesque facial stubble. I wonder what Jeeves would have said about his stubble!

  • @Orlabobz 1990-1993.They did other series as a pair "A bit of Fry & Laurie" 1987-1995 & Friday Night Live 1988,before that Cambridge Footlights Review 1982 the 2 of them with Emma Thompson,Slaterly,Shearer.Of course both have done so many more on stage, film & TV.I've seen most of their works except including 2 minutes of "House MD" since American TV is not my cup of tea.

  • @RasMajnouni

Sorry, I don't mean jeeves and wooster..... that and everything else you mentioned im familiar with, but the programe about the best of masterpiece theatre.

Oh also, don't be so judgemental on house md. It's fantastic. It introduced me to hugh, and consequently stephen (although I was familiar with him, i wasnt aware of their partner work) and house is a brilliant show. Give it a couple episodes.....you'll be hooked :)

  • I grew up on Jeeves and Wooster! Whenever they showed them on public TV my family would gather around and have a great time laughing or butts off. And whenever that awesome theme song came on my sister and I would get up and dance! Wonderful adaptation of the great PG Wodehouse stories. <3

  • i have the full set of oringinal dvds .. want a copy ?

  • Instead of always praising the unorthodox & cranky doctor, it' s worthwhile being speechless in front of " BERTIE " 's typically British eccentric character while watching " Jeeves & Wooster ".

  • I just love this series ! I'm reading he books and i always imagine them xD

  • good to see old bertie again <3

  • Oh boy....Fry & Laurie. It's hard to believe that Laurie's the same person here, who also plays House. And Fry is just a phenomenal actor.

  • I love Hugh Laurie :)

  • Interesting to hear Laurie's take on it. Fry's ease, but Laurie's struggle I think comes partly from Laurie's sharp self-criticisms, but also I think it speaks to the iconic nature of the characters they were playing. Wooster's manic, eccentric behaviors would be very taxing to try and perform, which could put a strain on Laurie trying to perfect them, while Jeeves' sobriety, however difficult to perfect, would come across as sheer ease if done as well as Fry managed it.

  • they do have them on DVD in the US. I have them.

  • My uncle taped all the Jeeves/Wooster shows many years ago. We used to watch them and just absolutely crack up. LOVE the old shows. Wish they would release them on DVD for U.S. use. Just love them. Now Stephen Fry is doing the voiceover for Playstation's Little Big Planet game. Heard his voice and instantly recognized him. Great guys!!!!

  • They are on DVD, but they're damned expensive.

  • Why the hell is Hugh Laurie only praised in this?

Stephen Fry is brilliant in it too.

  • I think it's an american program and unfortunately only Hugh has come to their attention.

  • Seems like the only person to praise Stephen Fry is Hugh Laurie!

  • @loserfreak92

yes that did puzzle me greatly, infact, the only one who really spoke of stephen is Hugh. And theyre both equally briliant!

  • @loserfreak92

Because there is no need to state the obvious

  • I did not know Hugh Laurie before House.

    Thanks for this.

  • Stephen Fry is every bit as talented as Hugh Laurie. Together they are sheer brilliance.

  • I LOVE Hug I saw him in Dr. House for the first time but now I am a fan of him.

  • Wonderful programme. Are you planning to upload any of the other segments? I would LOVE to see the Poldark bits.

  • I totally can't see anyone else doing J&W justice. They are BRILLIANT!

  • OMG the bit with the rubber duckie made me go "awee" ^^

  • Him pushing that little boy into the lake gets me EVERY TIME!

  • Man I wish that they would play Jeeves & Wooster here in the US. Thanks for posting!

  • They do!! Sometimes on PBS, I watch it all the time

  • judging from the stubble, I'd say he was filming House at the time of the interview, and I've heard that he tried to stay in accent as much a possible. Maybe he carried some over to the interview out of habit.

  • Is it just me or does Hugh's accent sound kind of American in the interview???

  • it does but it's sexy i think he might have a cold that might be why

  • @cynthiailly

Ah so he does, its odd, i've become accustom to both Bertie British and House American (and indeed all his accents from a bit of fry and laurie ect) so I actually didn't notice until reading your comment and re-listening!

  • Yes!

  • What has happened to Hugh Laurie's accent in the interviews? He's gone all mid-atlantic!

  • He might be trying to keep up the US accent in a method acting way. Some actors do this until an accent becomes second nature to them. He's said in the past that acting with the American accent is like patting your head and rubbing your stomach at the same time

  • Cool - Jeeves & Wooster is brilliant - thanks for posting this, why don't they have programmes on like 'The Best of Masterpiece Theatre' over here in England!?

  • yeahhh, i love jeeves & wooster.

  • Awesome! Thank you so much!

Do you think you could upload the Upstairs Downstairs one please?

  • Ooh, thanks for posting this! I hadn't seen it before.
