I wish they would have more alto and high sopranos that don't belt on the show so kids see that belting isn't the only kind of good singing >.<
@UrbanWhispers Actually, belting is not necessarily dangerous and like all singing can be safe with proper technique. Belting being dangerous is one of the myths of singing. However, I TOTALLY agree. I don't think i could have said it better myself. :)
@Cheezluvr12 Belting is harmful if you intend to have an operatic singing voice and pursue a career in voice for years past your 40's. This is me just going off of what my opera teacher taught me though :P But this is beside the point of Glee having a problem :P

if you think about it when comparing Rachel and Mercedes for the role of Maria. Rachel actually auditioned with a West Side Story song while Mercedes used an R&B song. Then they did a song from another musical for both. If Mercedes would have used a West Side Story song, I would have a better idea of who is the better Maria

Am I nuts, or does Lea Michele's voice just scream "Christmas/Holiday Album"? i read in a newspape that New Girl , the show after Glee, has more viewers than Glee -_- and it said that Glee Season 2 was better than Glee Season 3 will be -_-
I know its a show and yeah its beautiful but it saddens me as a viewer to see a mother that is aparently around but chooses to not be there for her own daughter but instead opted to play mother to-which is really insulting to me-one of her daughters' own glee club member. i mean really?! and you sing a song that SO ironically and is boldly telling YOUR daughter that it is still not the right time to connect with her as a mother should? it really gets to me and it truly makes me sad.
@kyw0202 I think that may be part of the writers' intention. they want us to sympathize for Rachel, it makes for interesting tv. Rachel's mom has explained that she feels shes lost her chance to be her mom and she wants to have a chance to get it right with Quinn's baby Beth withouth Beth ending up in a similar situation as Rachel and herself. (gah idk why i can't remember Idina's character name right now!) and I definitely sympathize with Rachel.
@hogs1629 I love this version but my favorite is Reri Grist. It is thrilling listening to it. You can find it here, it is a favorite of mine, I listen to her version at least once a week. It is haunting. I think Reri's is from the original cast album of West Side Story.
This version is awe inspiring too though, the beauty of youtube is enjoying so many wonderful artists.
@hogs1629 Sorry I really didn't answer your question....The music was composed by Leonard Bernstein and the lyrics were written by Stephen Sondheim for the Broadway production of West Side Story 1957. With a bow to both Beethoven and Tchaikovsky it is such an incredibly beautiful piece of music that has been covered by many different artists. Who does is best is entirely a matter of personal preference....for me as I said I love Reri's version but this version too is now a personal favorite.
Hearing this and actually seeing it are two completely different things! If you haven't seen them perform this song together....run, jump, fly to the episode now!
Im doing a mixture of songs from this musical in my band and this is one of the songs in the mixture play! i was like freaking out somewhat when i heard this song! XD
@giselleluvsnickjx3 The fact that after all this time, Quinn has still barely developed as a person. She still does whatever she wants with no real care for anyone else, and she has no real connection to anyone. Kurt had some really good story this time though, but then he almost always has. My main gripe is mostly how character development never sticks. Take Santana, she's gone back and forth from staunch glee clubber to Cheerio loyalist over and over again.
@Cosamaru Well I mean I understand where you're coming from but it's really realistic for Quinn to be the way she is right now..obviously this season they're going to develop her story much more especially with Beth back in the picture and I mean, like I said, this show is based on teens! Of course Santana is gonna go back and forth with the glee club and the cheerios. She loves glee but its her senior year and she wants to be on top. What other teen isn't like tht?

Personally, I think a lot of people would be better off if teens didn't act like Puck and Finn and Quinn and Santana all the time, but here they are on a really popular show just reinforcing the stereotypical actions.

I think they just reinforce these stereotypes in order to really develop these characters ya know what I mean? It's embodying the choices each character makes and their consequences! I know its a show and yeah its beautiful but it saddens me as a viewer to see a mother that is aparently around but chooses to not be there for her own daughter but instead opted to play mother to-which is really insulting to me-one of her daughters' own glee club member. i mean really?! and you sing a song that SO ironically and is boldly telling YOUR daughter that it is still not the right time to connect with her as a mother should? it really gets to me and it truly makes me sad.

@kyw0202 I think that may be part of the writers' intention. they want us to sympathize for Rachel, it makes for interesting tv. Rachel's mom has explained that she feels shes lost her chance to be her mom and she wants to have a chance to get it right with Quinn's baby Beth withouth Beth ending up in a similar situation as Rachel and herself. (gah idk why i can't remember Idina's character name right now!) and I definitely sympathize with Rachel.

@hogs1629 I love this version but my favorite is Reri Grist. It is thrilling listening to it. You can find it here, it is a favorite of mine, I listen to her version at least once a week. It is haunting. I think Reri's is from the original cast album of West Side Story.
This version is awe inspiring too though, the beauty of youtube is enjoying so many wonderful artists.

@hogs1629 Sorry I really didn't answer your question....The music was composed by Leonard Bernstein and the lyrics were written by Stephen Sondheim for the Broadway production of West Side Story 1957. With a bow to both Beethoven and Tchaikovsky it is such an incredibly beautiful piece of music that has been covered by many different artists. Who does is best is entirely a matter of personal preference....for me as I said I love Reri's version but this version too is now a personal favorite.

@giselleluvsnickjx3 The fact that after all this time, Quinn has still barely developed as a person. She still does whatever she wants with no real care for anyone else, and she has no real connection to anyone. Kurt had some really good story this time though, but then he almost always has. My main gripe is mostly how character development never sticks. Take Santana, she's gone back and forth from staunch glee clubber to Cheerio loyalist over and over again.

@Cosamaru Well I mean I understand where you're coming from but it's really realistic for Quinn to be the way she is right now..obviously this season they're going to develop her story much more especially with Beth back in the picture and I mean, like I said, this show is based on teens! Of course Santana is gonna go back and forth with the glee club and the cheerios. She loves glee but its her senior year and she wants to be on top. What other teen isn't like tht?

Personally, I think a lot of people would be better off if teens didn't act like Puck and Finn and Quinn and Santana all the time, but here they are on a really popular show just reinforcing the stereotypical actions.

I think they just reinforce these stereotypes in order to really develop these characters ya know what I mean? It's embodying the choices each character makes and their consequences! In the end, they'll hopefully become better ppl and develop more! :)
