I think this must be the only Monty Python sketch I do not like... I remember seeing it on TV after seeing The Holy Grail, and this put me off watching MP's Flying Circus for a long time. It's probably just that I can't watch it, it's so disgusting it makes me sick for real...I could say it is less subtle than what they usually do, but to be honest, I love some other sketches like the Llamas or the Fish Slapping Dance, and they are arguably just as silly.

One other note of interest , all the "vomit" was actually mass amounts of canned soup. And at the time of filming it was in the warmer months in the UK, so obviously in filming a sceen isn't accomplished on the first take, so with warm weather and multiple takes the soup began to spoil ,hence it stunk!!!!

I saw The Meaning of Life at the theater, (Matinee) when it was released in 1983. I'd say one quarter of the Audience left after the Catholic/ Protestant "Debate". "Every Sperm is Sacred". And another quarter after Mr. Creosote ,vomited, and vomited somemore, and ultimately exploded. I personally thought Python's Meaning of life was second only to In Search of the Holy Grail. And, Cleese, Palin, Chapman, Jones, Idle ,and Gilliam were all accused of Blasphemy for the third time.

Now in such a medical emergency do you first need to address the extreme infection risk due to the somewhat large open wound? And as far as emergency surgery goes, the broken ribs can largely be dealt with after the fact considering the damage to the stomach wall and the introduction of gastric acids into the bloodstream. To say nothing of the fact that he also will likely be facing an extremely serious dental emergency; the frequent vomiting will likely erode the fine enamel on his teeth! :-)
