How does this differ from the Infamous Lions screwjob? Oh, I understand. If you're a Lions Player, you get BS calls no matter what you do. Everyone else, especially the f*cking cheese f*ckers Green Bay Fudge Packers, you can pull off BS and obvious penalties and not get called for squat! The NFL need to lay off the Lions.
I think that this may be different from the disputed Calvin Johnson "catch" because Moore gained possession of the ball outside the plane of the goal-line, then brought the ball across, after he had gained full possession. The rule is that if any part of the ball already in the possession of a player breaks the plane, it is a touchdown. Whatever happens after ball breaks the plane has no affect. But with the Johnson catch, initial possesion was gained inside the end-zone. Different rule I guess
Another stupid inconsistent rule if you think about it is when you fumble and the ball goes out of bounds the ball is placed at the spot of the fumble. UNLESS the ball goes out of bounds in the endzone. Then it's the other teams ball at the 20. Why isn't that placed at the spot of the fumble?
I cAN see what it is, foo. I'm pointing out the inconsistancies in the rules. stating that the 2 pt conversion is no different from a touchdown or nothing
It's cool. It's just funny how when the NFL starts tinkering with the nuances of the rulebook no matter what they do someone will get screwed in a game one day. =)
Catching the ball outside of the endzone, then breaking the plane doesn't hold the same strict requirements that the NFL has placed on catches made inside the endzone. That's why they were called differently.
The Calvin Johnson pass was an incomplete pass. He was going to the ground and he spiked the ball before he stopped moving, which means that the process of the catch was not completed, making the pass incomplete. The difference between that and the 2 point conversion is that once Lance Moore made a second act and stretched over the goal line, the second act ends the catch process and because he got over the goal line, the play is a converted 2 point conversion.
I'm starting to get the rule now too. The refs make things up whever they feel like it. CJ's was much more of a TD than this. This guy never totally secured it. CJ was getting up to go celebrate. NFL blew it.
The NFL is joke. Every professional sport is rigged now. That is why I watch College Sports. Of course they wouldn't let Detroit go into Chicago and win on opening day. Detroit=shit. Apparently, that is what the officials think. (See Jim Joyce, and now this) GO BLUE!
By rule, this was not a catch. They've been talking about this rule all day today after the Lions-Bears game today. The refs made the wrong call here.
No true, this was a catch because he showed the second act, which ends the catch process, and once he stretched over to the goal line and it broke the plain, that ends the play. Now Calvin Johnson did not make a second act, and he spiked the ball before the process of the catch was completed, which makes the Calvin Johnson play incomplete.
@goblue1162 this was a catch, im a saints fan but in all seriousness this catch and the lions catch should have counted. its BS that the lions didnt win that game
@RAYSHYLO77 No it actually isnt. While he was on the ground the ball was kicked out of his hands. In the Lions game he didnt get it hit out of his hands while on the ground, he just dropped it.
@ryanhosn1 Sorry i messed that up, the reason that was a catch was that he caught it in the field of play and stretched it over the plain, which ends the play. Its a completly different matter in the endzone.
@slimfletcher So please explain the process of this catch. Sure, caught the ball, but juggled it, the the ball got knocked out of his hand all together. Im pretty much over it, but this "process" of catching the ball was much shittier than Calvin Johnsons.
@SkyDiveDoc22 The LM catch was different than CJ's - more like a red-zone reception, since he never had his feet in the end zone, and the ref's explanation was that he "had possession of the ball, with the ball breaking the plane of the goal line."
@SkyDiveDoc22 I'm not trying to be a jerk about this, I'm making a (probably ill-advised) effort to figure out guidelines for EZ catches. Seems to me that if CJ had kept his right hand on the ball, and taken a hard fall after contact, the ref wouldn't have been able to overturn the call on the field (more like Forte's second TD). That's why I say it seems that keeping two hands on the ball is the key in high-stakes catches.
@SkyDiveDoc22 You're a stronger man than me if you're almost over it. If Moore's points hadn't counted, the momentum shift after the on-side kick wouldn't have been as big, and the Saint's would have had a harder time getting the pick-6 and the win, and I'd probably still be fuming.
@slimfletcher lol, I hear yah man. Us in Detroit just always feel like were getting shit on. First Galarraga with the Tigers. Now Calvin Johnson. It's just shitty. Trying to stay positive. I use to have hope, but now with Stafford injured again, I'm just gonna sit back and not expect much.
@SkyDiveDoc22 The reason this counted is because the ball was kicked out of Lance Moores hands, in the lions game CJ just flat out put the ball on the floor
Look with your eyes, the ball broke the invisible wall for the end zone before he hit the ground, that's what mattered. Furthermore, he didn't juggle the ball until after he hit the ground, at which point, the ball had already crossed to the endzone. He got it fair, square, and amazingly skillfully/luckily.
@pmr175 he had it are you stupid look at it he had the ball then it got kicked out all he has to do is have it for a second over the goal do you even watch football it was too fast to see it in regluar time but when you slow it down you can tell
wait. is everybody talking about the one calvin johnson catch er what?????
