Yep. The 80s was a great decade for animation. The crazy thing is many of us did not know about such quality anime movies like these until years later.

Did you mean that comparing to current animation this one sucks? Well, this is not correct. 2d animation is easier to draw now because of computers, but it doesn't make today's animation better. 3d mechs almost always suck, still frames are still in charge and sometimes i think animators never saw a real people.

I'd say the animation in this one is awsome even for our time period.

Gotta love the eighties, when the animation was all hand drawn and painted. Every single spent shell casing in the opening was hand animated.

I noticed how Shin says a few things in English. If you listen closely, he says "Gear down" and "Approach, go!" just before the title shows up. Just by listening to those few lines, this got me thinking that that's how Shin would actually sound if he spoke English; he'd have a Japanese accent rather than an American accent.

Thats what made older anime fun, when the characters in a mixed cultural setting spoke each others language. Macross DYRL is another great example!!
