  • boo hoo i weep NOT!!!

  • We don't owe them "aid". We owe them compensation damn it.

  • I appreciate this video so much. Frank and direct about the problems with governmental approaches to poverty reduction. There is a great approach to help but it takes going there, and INVESTING, EMPOWERING, and CULTIVATING basic business creation. The governments are influenced by academics and they do great research, but business creation must be done by business people. That's what we do, and it works very powerfully. These guys are rightfully angry. Most "aid" money is wasted.

  • Loans are granted to Pakistan but are not monitored/audited to see the completion of the project they are sanctioned for. Pakistani ruling class & govt departments eventually eat up the entire sum. Are these loans granted to promote hypocrisy, gradually leading to fake inflation, injustice & poverty? The end result nowadays is reaction in the form of suicide bombing & destruction due to the problems mentioned. Kalabagh Dam & many projects are just a dream due to this attitude of IMF & World Bank

  • Why is the west wasting money on projects which do not reduce poverty in Africa. Can someone tell me please?

  • " Can someone tell me please? "

Sure - to keep their raw materials flowing to the West.

Africa exports 1 trillion in raw materials every year (gold, diamonds, platinum, oil, etc.) and receives 1/4 trillion in 'donor aid' every year.

This goes to corrupt local elites and running huge gvt bureaucracies, so they will not nationalize their mines or redistribute land to their own people.

That is why the west is rich, and African people are poor.

  • Reinvest profits from mining and raw materials in agriculture, infrastructure and manufacturing, and building capacity (universal healthcare and education, education for farmers, civil servants and professionals), and Africa does not need 'donor aid' or any aid at all.

'Donor aid' is part of a shell game, where the wests receives Africa's raw materials free of charge (no taxes, no profit sharing) and returns a quarter of that money, with strings attached to keep the exploitation going.

  • For goodness sake please give Africans the credit that they know what is best for themselves. Stop this belief that decisons which are made in the western board room are best for Africa. What is wrong with researching the needs of people and fulfilling those particular needs. Please stop this pretence.

  • when europeans colonized africa, they chopped up most natural borders and replaced them with false lines: DIVIDE & RULE. then, they put up puppet regimes, then screwed the people and blamed them for being screwed up. just look at african-americans: whites facilitate their problems then point and say, "look, they're f-d up!" i know, i'm white and live in the southeastern us (60% black).

  • problem in africa is their (no)ledership...coruption mix with politicts...and tribal lines beeing put above national interest..no real leders were born in africa in the last 100 years...

  • It is unbelievable that so many strings are attached to debt relief. You don't see westerners going in to banks for loans and being asked if they are using birth control - why do they force these draconian measures on people who really need money and don't simply want to buy a new four-wheeler? You don't see strings being attached to victims of hurricanes or tsunamis: victims such as these aren't forced to fill out target forms to make sure they are rebuilding on target...

  • When all the talk about debt relief came out, who mentioned the conditions attached to it? I don't remember hearing about them. After the way the west has invaded countries across africa, remapped the continent, stolen people and resources - the loans should be cancelled without any string attached at the very least.

  • I believe that people should start hearing the real needs of the people in Africa. The points in this film are so strong and potent and hopefully one day these ideas and views will be acted upon.

  • What's amazing is that China has been able to do in just a few years what the West hasn't done since 1960 (after more than $590 Billion of aid). What the West needs to do is end its hypocrytic criticism of China while they are setting up military bases like Africom, or tools like the World Bank and IMF that are classic failures with the Structural Adjustment Program (SAP) and HIPC. No More AID, we want INVESTMENT. Damn it

  • its sad to see that these people are having debt problems and not getting help the way they want

  • It is nice to see that these people are getting help from live 8 and G8, also getting new dustbins

  • The best help is self help. Empowering people and the human touch seems to be lacking in debt relief. What has changed in their every day lives because of Live8 and G8?

  • I wasn't certain that the people addressing development issues here had a sufficient knowledge of the field they were delving into.

  • Of course you would feel that way being on the other side of the issue. Your viewpoint it representative of a great deal of those don't have to suffer from the consequences of actions that are skewed in your favour.

  • Love it.

  • It is a very informative and educational film. Though it should have included some key figures from both the Ganian Government and G8.

  • Very informative film. Though it should have included some key figures like Gana ministers and some elements from G8.

  • the flim is ok

  • Unfortunatlt Trakaton your death wish echoes the anti-human sentiments which leave people in the developing world suffering the sustainababble, anti consumerist, anti progress ideas which are the real obstacle these days to people having what we have in the West and a decent life the world over.

  • I wish these poor people would just kill us all. Then justice would be served.

  • We will carbon Tax them and YOU then they will understand poverty.Hillary

  • Well done WORLDwrite I like your idea of challenging the G8 summit on this as well. Looking forward to more of these to get the truth out. Oh and I do hate the obsession with corruption which everyone seems to dribble on about. Development has nothing to do with corruption but it certainly preoccupies a lot of wasted brain space and is a very anti third world sentiment.

  • Man if you really want to help africa, "ALL" you have to do is implement change in government, and disable the means of bribery and embezlement. That's it, africa is sulsufficient in resources, and intelligence and work labour. Greed has ruined too many parts of that continent, from their goverments and developed world trying to profit.

  • yes

  • I believe that the makers of this short film have made clear their message to the world. It makes you feel what the political leaders are doing to help the third world countries. People in these countries need the resources, they do not need someone to tell them what to do. It is really shocking that even so much has been shown helping, but still there is no improvement. So what was the point? To me, it is more showing off rather than helping.

  • I think the developed world makes it seem that you the developing world stand to benefit when they in dept(HIPIC Benefits) and to make the situation worse they seem to know what the developing countries need more they themselves

  • it really challenges your views on the 3rd world country

  • what a great video makes u really think about those in the 3rd world, what are we doing do help them?how much do we care about our brothers and sisters in other countries.

  • What an eye opener as to the psychological affects of our wonderful 'Western generosity'!! Who has the right to take a quick glance into another person's world and express their naive, ignorant assumptions about what this person or country needs to improve their living??

Check out our 'heroes' giving handing out dusbins!!

What a poor effort against poverty.

  • It is interesting to see how efforts in the west to help developing countries are REALLY affecting those who live there. Well done, WORLDwrite!

  • A fantastic video! Finally someone willing to open up the eyes of those who THINK they are doing good work to help relieve debt and poverty in the 3rd world. We must remember that just because these people are from a less fortunate country does not make them stupid or make us in the west superior. They do not need to be controlled.

  • Sanitation should not be the job of some Western Country as it seems in this video because London is also struggling with recycling themselves

  • Another excellent documentary from WORLDwrite! Its good that you are educating the rest of the world on what's REALLY happening! Keep up the good work!

  • Shocking how Developing countries are keeping the third world in debt, They are hypocrites and don't want them to be equal and to have any independance to move forward!

  • For another good example search 'Sit down against stand up...' by petmark81, a 1 minute video with a link in his intro to a very good article/interview.

  • This film reveal an unknown aspect of debt relief.

Helping or supporting poor countries easily come along with controlling them. It's a good chance to know what's actually happening in the poor countries in Africa by what the West has done so far.

  • BOb, go back to what you used to do best.. making mediocre music... You're not really helping anything, really, are you?

  • "We'll write off third world debt" announces the politician. Can we now live with the knowledge that our nation has generously assisted the developing world out of its pit of financial misery?

This revealing doc demonstrates how spin and propaganda permeate the apparent charitable efforts of Western governments, ensuring every "free gift" comes with strings attached. A perfect example of the power of YouTube and independent production, providing the silenced with a voice to shout.

  • We really do not see enough of these! All the efforts made in the west are simply swamping the real issues, people think they are helping but despite there good intentions, they aren't. These people need there voices to be heard on a much grander scale.

  • We have politican and celebrity falling over each other claiming to be giving the people of the developing world a voice, and yet the very policies being put forward through Debt Relief result in people having no say in how their countries are run.

  • Thw World Bank, the IMF, etc that dictate Africa's economy need to see this, although i'm sure they'd choose to ignore it. Africa is CRYING OUT ,and rightly so, for industrilisation, yet none of the Western governments are willing to help, just to safeguard their own markets. Every developed country has got to where it is by industrialising, but this is been denied to the continent tha needs it most.Is this because Western govs are threatened by the incredible potential Africa?

  • Very good short film!! All of these worldwrite videos really give people the chance to see things from another perspective!

  • President Kuffour of Ghana and his cronies are traitors to the state and continent just like the majority of African so called educated leaders. He encourages us as Ghanaian's to be professional beggars. Ghana must stand up for itself no matter what, life or death. If we in 2006 can't build a metal bin we have serious mental issues. The only practical solution left to all of us is popular uprising, revolution, self determination.

  • This was extremely powerful for me. It was nice to see some of the well educated African people being able to have a say.

  • this film, highlights the way western countries in the G8 still exact control over poorer countries that they are supposedly helping. They use derogatory labels for Ghana in this instance, and force them to spend aid or debt relief on agriculture when what the Ghanaians here say that they want is to spend it on developing infrastructure, health and industry, so that they can sort their own problems out. At the moment aid appears to be exacerbating differences rather than equalising them.

  • An important film. It exposes the HIPC Initiative for the sham that it is. The Initiative does free up resources that would previously have gone to service debt, but instead of giving the Ghanaian government a choice, the HIPC Initiative acts as a straightjacket, setting conditions and dictating what the money can be spent on. This film is essestial viewing for anyone interested in development issues. Bravo Worldwrite

  • This is a great movie! Finally someone spoke to the people who actually have to live with the consequences of self-righteous eurocentric feel-good campaigns and found out what these promises translate into, in real terms for the people they are allegedly 'helping.'

  • Hi, this is an outstanding piece of work on the social and capital development of Africa and its poorest countries. It explores the natives viewpoints and outlook on their lifechances and their experiences as a everyday African living to survive. Its a smack in the face to the G8 summit and to world aid agencies the more help they can do to get Africans out of poverty. Well done!

    Speak20

  • this film highlights some massive contradictions, one of which surrounds the apparent need in the developing world for "good governance" (how is this quantified???) espoused by the development community whilst at the same time limiting governments of dev countries to following external regulations, thus promoting dependency and restricting their capacity to govern..hope Bono and Bob are watching!

  • great stuff, I love the bit where the guy thanks Tony Blair and all the other phoneys for the HIPC dustbins

  • What an eye-opener - I was there, I did the march's, I went to the concert - for what?! You've inspired me to find out more about the bullsh*t they're peddling as debt relief... I'm angry

  • People don't know the history of this continent, how it was colonized, partitioned, and how its resources are being appropriated by corporations. The West has been sucking it dry and destroying it in the process since the 1800's.

  • This is really exciting. why don't westerners think Africans deserve the same level of independence from Western control that millions of us campaign for all the time regarding the middle east and the West's impositions there?

  • You're damned if you and your damned if you don't? Seems to me this film is saying Africa is in hock because of lame 'developemnt' projects like latrines and garbage provision It's not a run of the mill 'isn't it awful' short film. That's to be congratulated

  • Look dont borrow the money if you cant pay it back.

  • What is the point of saying this? If you don't know anything about the history, context and background of an issue, why make inane and pointless comments about it. The circumstances in which all developing countries borrowed money are highly controversial and often implicate the lender nations themselves in attempts to control the resources of many of these countries.

  • ye i like this movie...(if you like WOW chek this) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlwKg3cpUZ8#GU5U2spHI_4

  • Hey I like these worldwrite films. They're intelligent and spunky!

  • A big eye opener. Well done Worldwrite.
