The chunk error hurt you because they are filled with the void. The void deals damage at 1/2 a heart a second or something.

@iSamuritwns maps in legendary are dangerous though. If you try to map the void, your minecraft will explode. And sometimes legendary has void. Better be safe so they don't have to restart the whole map again(that would be hilarious).
