  • WHY DOES MAN FIGHT?

  • The Scots victory at Bannockburn gave them a false sense of confidence. When a Scottish army attacked England and invaded it was destroyed with ease by a small contingent of reserve troops. The Battle was called Halidon Hill.

  • @ADZ01982

    but still won the war

  • @Glaswegianmark Yeh but Oliver Cromwell conquered Scotland smashing numerous numerically superior Scottish armys. You have been conquered by the English and nearly all of your cross border incursions have been swiftly destroyed.

  • @ADZ01982

thats because oliver cromwell was an amazing stragic commander. scotland has never been conquered because we were still independent before and after cromwell invaded.

i wouldn't say the scottish armies were superior, they had no formal military training. It was only after the scottish king james created the union between scotland and England that the Scottish and English; welsh too (for comedic purposes lol) became brothers in arms and became the worlds badass

  • @ADZ01982

i don't know what cromwells scottish campaign has to do with the battle described on the video. but it wasn't really the scottish army he fought. half of the 'royalist army' that he fought were mostly English and scottish 'traitors' as we call them. cromwell was fighting royalists and killing catholic civilians. Cromwell wasn't interested in conquering scotland. them ajority of scottish people decided not to join the army because we shared monarchy.

  • @ADZ01982

but to be honest by looking up the history of the campaign, although cromwell executed a hitler type slaughter of men, women and children and slaughtering royalists, he was actually more friendler to the scottish people than he was to the English, Welsh or Irish. That's why scotland doesn't hold his name in contempt. he allowed people to have their own lands, their own businesses and other stuff. never over charging rent or tax. so he had a majority of fans up here

  • @ADZ01982 Not quite true. Halidon Hill was nearly 20 years later. Immediately after Bannockburn, the Bruce took a Scots army as far south as York, entirely unopposed, and held the town to ransom for £20,000, which the townsfolk gladly paid. By 1333 the Bruce was dead and his old rivals (Comwyns and Balliols) were trying to regain power. They entered a pact with Edward III, laying seige to Berwick castle. The Scots sent an army to relieve the seige, and were defeated at Halidon Hill...

  • ...To say that Halidon Hill was England defeating Scotland is a massive over-simplification. Basically it was a few disgruntled Scots landowners entering into a pact with an English landowner in order to take some property from another Scottish landowner. The entire Scottish and Welsh wars are about landowners feuding with each other, not nations pitted against nations. The concept of nationhood was not what it is now. You weren't loyal to a nation, you were loyal to your landlord.

  • It's SchiltroNs

  • Independence? What independence?

  • @EliteLaurence Ours

  • Robert the Bruce was anything but noble. A true guerilla fighter, slaughtered entire town populations for their allegiance to Comyn. Same for the MacDougall clan lands. Also invaded Ireland with expectation of having its lands freed from the English. Ended up terrorizing the English and Irish alike. Not exactly the model of chivalry.

  • @EliteLaurence shut up. Robert the Bruce was a warrior, like all true Scots. He brought us yet another victory that gained our independence.

  • @EliteLaurence : Nice to see someone who actually knows what he's talking about mate.

  • @EliteLaurence The rules of chivalry only applied to the aristocracy, plus ca change.

  • Battle of Bannockburn: England's Agincourt

  • Why is there music from the Thirty Years War "last of the mohican" in a game video about the Battle of Bannockburn?

  • @Rao665 - Because the song you refer to was not written for the LoTM. It is called "The Gael " written by Dougie Maclean, a Scottish folk artist. Type "gael maclean" on YT.

  • @AlbaSiar Yeah, that's what I'm saying. the song was created during the era of the "Thirty Years War" not when Battle of Bannockburn occured.

  • Shagrat 65 you can read and write...well done!

  • @TheCastlerankie : Read a book about Scotlands history - then you might actually learn something. For the record, I'm not being Pro-English, I'm just telling it like it is mate

  • Robert the Bruce,Andrew Murray,Black Douglas...noble knights!

  • Basicly two of the best Armies in the world, and what Englishmen wouldnt want to be led by someone as tough and intelligent as Robert the Bruce who led from the front. When these two countries were united they conquerd half the world.

  • Only a dead englishman is a good englishman.

    Hail from Norway!

  • @VictumRoManius whats the 14th century like nowadays?

  • Dam the English

  • whats the game called?

  • @DaleisTankRid Medieval 2 Total War

  • what game is this???

  • whats with the music?????

  • kill the english

  • lolXD king robert dided!!! 1:29

  • i hated the way they fought in total war 2

they didnt run into each other and start fighting they walked up to each other and formed a cue, like 4 fighting and when they die the next four come forward

  • @Antzcceltic1 Once my troops have engaged i click behind the enemy to have my men swarm into them. Annoying yes but it works. game is still pretty epic.

  • I love this fucking music, for it just resonates with this piercing power!

  • Also, till the coming of the dreaded, supremely disciplined & ferocious Swiss Pikemen during the early-mid 15th century, those fearsome & fiercely determined Scottish schiltroms were quite possibly the finest, toughest & most well packed infantry troops on the face of the planet! For in terms of ferocity, visceral bad-ass-i-tude, cohesion in the ranks, & in their awesome striking power with those 12 foot pikes those Scots had no peers, save the Swiss!!!

  • @sxlfkta: Mate I hate to break it to you but whenever dense spear/pike blocks came against dismounted men at arms with longbow support they were crushed. Save Bannockburn and Otterburn it always lead to Scottish destruction. Duppilin Muir, Halidon Hill, Nevilles Cross, Homildon Hill, Flodden, etc

  • True. Yet those dismounted men at arms were usually armed with these deadly & versatile bills, which were quite capable of slicing off the pike heads that they encountered, while Scottish swords (which were pulled out after the pikes became beheaded) were also no match for the bill. For at Flodden the charging, rolling Scottish pike force (trained in the same manner as the Swiss) hit this dip in the land, which broke up their fierce momentum, thus rendering all pikes useless against the bills.

  • @sxlfkta: Mate men at arms may have been armed with polearms but certaintly not bills. They would have been armed mainly with swords, warhammers, etc. I know how effective they were at Flodden because the Scots were simply not use to the 21 foot pikes they wielded. They may have been trained by French officers but certainly not in the disciplined manner of the Swiss or their landsknechts enemies. I know about their positioning on Branxton hill and the envitable slaughter that followed.

  • @sxlfkta: They may have picked up bills once the chaos around James IV division took place but that would have been at the expense of dead northern border levies.

  • @Shagrat65 Get a life ya sad git......a minor force defeated the most powerful army in europe.....and low and behold still went on the crusades...mmmm...funny that eh!

  • @TheCastlerankie Not really. Learn how to read and write and pick up a history book daft cunt.

  • The hand-to-hand combat phase that transpired during the 2nd day of that momentous & pivotal Battle was quite ferocious & savage indeed, with neither side giving in till the English finally broke & ran (after being out-jabbed, out-stabbed & beaten to the ground mercilessly & ruthlessly!)! Kudos to the Bruce for choosing that tactically feasible location, along with preparing the ground with these sharp spikes (so as to trip up the English cavalry!), on that bloody day!

  • Bannockburn was actually the first Battle of the Scottish Wars of Independance where this significant number of primitive, Gaelic speaking, utterly tribal, plaid wearing Scottish Highlanders actually took part in & proved decisive! For although Wallace was admired throughout the Highlands it really took the Royal Authority & Persuasive Powers of King Robert the Bruce to convince the clans to join him in & partake in that fight to face & repel the English, which they did on that famous day!

  • Excuse me, but , why does everyone , seem to think this is a game ??? It was History , not a game !!!! Anyojne who thinks it was a game, should talk to the Ancestors who fought , in real life & their time !!!

  • @yukonnahanni im pretty sure they are dead the ancestors.......

  • long live the union

  • i hope that scotland one day will have there indenpendence

  • They no longer have any need for the UK since they found oil on the northern coast.

  • excellent video ! love the shiltron :)

  • It took England about 20 years to recover from that battle, during which time the Scots pretty much pwned as far south as Yorkshire.

The Bruce himself marched upon York, banged his fist on the city gates and demanded a ransom of £20,000 (About 200 gazillion in todays money) which the citizens of York gladly paid just to make the Scots army go away.

The border wasn't clearly defined back then like it is now. Think of it more as a war of feuding landlords than a war of nations.

  • Scotland: Proof that God does drink.

    SCOTTISH AND PROUD!

  • SCOTTISH & PROUD!!!!

  • dont want to sound like a fanny but what game is this, it looks like medieval 2 total war

  • how come yr comp runs the game so smoothly?

  • This game is cool, its a pity that u can only start a campain with only choosing 1 of 6 factions instead of all 17 factions.

  • I'm sure you can change that with some text file editing.

  • good idea, i'll try it

  • o no wait, u have 2 destroy a faction 2 unlock it

  • @JohanRegus12 or just beat the game with cheats.

  • I used to play the Total War games all the time before I got rid of my PC for a mac. That opening music with the bagpipes in it, is that from the game or something you pulled form somewhere?

  • It is from the game itself, I think it's called "Tally-ho"

  • what game is this?

  • Very good!
