  • it may be a stupid question but I don't have the money atm to buy a HD TV and a PVR. are there any capture cards that have as good of quality as PVR's? I currently have the best type of dazzle but the quality still isn't good enough for me.

  • @BattleGB From what I've seen the Pinnacle Video Transfer can give you some crisp SD pictures. However, nothing will make the text as clear as an HD PVR. And, for this, most people don't like the quality of anything but the HD PVR.

  • @BattleGB Alternatively, make sure you're using S-Video with your dazzle... It'll make it not look as much like crap :P

  • I want to know how to set it up on a standard definition tv.

  • @mystery1229 Why would you buy this for an SD TV? You can't really get an HD recording with it on an SD TV unless you spend another $200 on converters.

  • dude im just gonna be legit and ask, is it possible in any way to record while playing with a 1080p hdmi cable, because thats what ive always done, without the hdmi cable (1080p) im terrible, and now theres really no point to record, so with an xbox 360 is there anyway at all i can play with 1080p hdmi and still record?

  • @zzoriginalz Unless you have a quadcore computer with an intense GFX card, you wouldn't even be able to start. Plus, you gotta downgrade it in the end anyway. I don't see the point really because the visual difference is so minimal.

  • wtf 200 dollars

  • you should add that connecting the hd pvr so different from a xbox 360 not to mess up someones setup

  • @apoclpyespony If you listen to what I say, there's nothing different about it besides on the old 360's you plug the optical cable into the HD cable thingie. If you can't figure that out on your own...

  • @RoganSarine i think you've never use an HD PVR with a ps3 and 360 because with ps3 u need additional cables however with the 360 u don't u just use the cables the HD PVR I'm just saying that how you connect the HD PVR is that way u mention for the ps3 not 360 360 is different i should know I've connected mine and my friends HD PVR multiple times you're just making things more complicated than they should when connecting the console to the PVR to the tv

  • @apoclpyespony You must not understand how Im explaining it then. I've set this thing up multiple times across every console known to man... I can't see where there's a "short cut" since I only use 2 cables -- which you have to use.

  • oh ok.

  • Hey so i finally got it to work. Is it ok if i record in 1080i or will that mess up my computer

  • @Kryptkiller2 It depends if your computer can handle it or not.

  • @Kryptkiller2 but heres the thing. All youtube viewable settings are in P. Will 1080i work?

  • @Kryptkiller2 You have to downgrade it to 720p anyway

  • Hey i got the component cables but theres NO SOUND!!!! i called sony and asked them and they said you cant have sound with component cables!!! I bought 2 opticals and they dont have sound either!!! WTF HELP ME

  • @Kryptkiller2 Sony is dumb if they said that. Really, really fucking dumb.

Make sure you set the audio properties in the playstation to only use dolby and not DTS.

  • @Kryptkiller2 Other than that, you either explained it to Sony wrong, or your not following my video/don't know how to set it up properly =\

  • how did you make that intro at 0:30 ?

  • @GamersDKz Adobe After Effects primarily with some basic filter generators -- It took like 30 seconds to make since I was too lazy to actually make a proper intro.

  • how did you make that intro at 0:30 ?

  • cdo the component display cables also have sound. i dont get why i have to get audio cables also. and where do i put the audio cables in a ps3. If you look at a picture of the back of a ps3 you'll see an hdmi slot, a slot for the other side of component cables and lan party stuff. Pleas reply im getting mine soon

  • oh ok. well my ps3's composite cable has a usb'ish type end so i could just put that in

  • will windows movie make 2.6 work with the .m2ts format. Also at the end of your video you show the double sided composite cables we should put in xbox-happauge-tv you cant put the yellow red and white cords in a ps3. What should i do

  • @Kryptkiller2 It was a proof of concept. You use the specific console cable inbetween the hauppauge and console.

  • hey i just figured it out this is what i have

Mobile Intel R 4 Series Express Chipset Family

Approx. Total Memory - 1695 mb

    Currrent Display Mode - 1366 x 768 (32 bit) (60hz)

    will these settings work

  • @Kryptkiller2 That still doesn't tell me the video card settings.

  • I have a HP Pavillion Entertainment PC/Laptop with Intel 2 core duo and windows 7. On the side it says SD-MS/Pro.MMc. XD. Will the Happuage work with this

  • @Kryptkiller2 Tat doesn't tell me anything about the video card your laptop is using.

  • @RoganSarine How can i figure out

  • Hey can u record gameplay in hd and play in standard definition

  • @rivercats58 Nothing will allow you to unless you use splitters/converters.

  • @RoganSarine can u make a vid or show me what i need

  • @rivercats58 It'd be cheaper to just buy a 24-32" HDTV. And, I am sorry, but I don't have the disposable income, nor an SD TV, to show it on.

  • @RoganSarine i mean can u just show me how the cables for sd look

  • so wait.... if im on a regular sd tv, i use the regular red, white, yellow cables on that one side and connect the others to.... ok this is where im kinda confused...

  • @BlankMindStudios You'd use a VDA or splitters like a Dazzle. Buying this with no intent to upgrade to an HDTV very soon is useless.

  • @RoganSarine i have one but not at the moment i moved and my computer is not working

  • hello umm can u actually record hd while playing on sd tv by having splitters etc. with pvr

  • @XxHawkTannerXx I recommend against it mainly because why spend $200 at that point plus more? The quality for a recording seriously isn't worth it.

  • Can you use Hauppauges with Windows Vista?

  • yup

  • Can you record with the HD PVR from a computer monitor being the xbox 360 plugged in it with VGA Cables?

tnx 4 ur help, seen you reply 2 all messages =)

  • For all intensive purposes... No. Not unless you get a converter OR a component cable splitter and use a good VGA box like XCM Mega-Cool VGA box.

  • @RoganSarine

What you mean by converter? (Sorry, im spanish and find it difficult lol)

    Thanks for your help

  • Converts VGA to component.

  • IE: Changes the connection type. The latter is probably the easiest/cheapest.

  • Ok, so if the box captures what you put in which in my case would be standard definition, does that mean it'll be somewhat fuzzy. I mean I have a 42' flat screen standard definition tv and with it capturing whats put in I'm just curious will it capture the standard definition quality of what I see on my tv or a lower quality than what I see?

  • It'll capture exactly what your TV is displaying.

Even if your TV is 42' flat fullscreen, if it's SD it is using a fixed resolution... I'm gonna assuming it's 480p which is 640x480 which is exactly the resolution the HAVA will record (your TV just blows it up to 42")

If it's widescreen, it'll similarly record 720x480 (and your TV again just blows than up to 42"). So, it is the same picture, but it may LOOK a little blurrier than what your used to on the TV because the CRT may improve the pic

  • For all intensive purposes, it SHOULD be exactly the same... But there may be some upscaling/picture refinement on the CRT (but that's just hypothesis). The reason I say that is because from when I use a CRT, I generally don't even find anything blurry (mind you, I havn't used a next-gen console on a SD TV), but when I used my HAVA to record in SD... It was fairly blurry at similar resolutions.

This could be, though, because the HAVA hardware isn't as good as the Hauppauge.

  • Well, how would you get the image on your TV if you planned to do that? If you got a splitter box it'd work.

For a general jist, if you got an SD TV, you'll be forced to record in SD no matter what you get.

The only way it'd work otherwise is if you split the HD xbox connection and sent it to the hauppauge like you say, and then to ANOTHER splitter box that down converted the signal to SD for your TV.

  • Is there anyway that I can record by useing the HD pvr but without have the image on the tv??

  • Yeah.... Just don't plug in the output to your TV =\

  • Can somebody tell me how would you record with this if you are using your monitor to play PS3??????????

    THANK YOU

  • VGA Box (Specifically XCM mega cool if you don't want to have resolution downgrades), or HDMI cable if your monitor is capable.

If needed, you can also dual-output sounds because the ps3 is capable.

  • yeah i use hdmi to dvi because my monitor has dvi port not hdmi

  • can u play in sd and record in hd? I don't have an hdtv yet but wondering if any devices/setups would allow hd recording while playing on sd tv?

  • None do... The way stuff is recorded... It can't be done unless you spend an extra $50-100 on a good VGA box or something that is able to downgrade the image after processing.

  • anyone want a blitz box hd capture card

lets you play in 1080 hd

    while recording

    msg me $100

  • I would take it for the right price.

  • well i have other offers

how much were you thinking ?

  • got the discounts yet ? 5* btw.

  • I havn't gotten a mass-market code discount yet unfortunately since a lot of people don't actually tell me when they buy them, and my video count isn't nearly as high as I thought it'd be.

  • Sorry, I am new to recording and have a few questions. PLEASE HELP:

    1) Is this the cheapest dvr that lets me PLAY IN HD and record in hd. I have a nice tv and would like to use the hd. :) Is it possible to PLAY IN HD with a Dazzle, HAVA, or Blitzbox? I really want to play in hd and record for video games and am not really interested in television or movie recording anyway.

    2) Can I use iMovie or Final Cut Express 4

I would appreciate it if somebody could respond. Thanks

  • 1) HAVA/Blitzbox: Yes, but not record.

Dazzle: Not without a bunch of splitters making clutter.

    2) You should, but I havn't personally tried it.

  • ok thank you, but will the quality be good on the hava or blitzbox because if so they are much cheaper.

  • I have an example video (it should be in the description or the beginning annotation) on ninja gaiden sigma showing the best quality I can get.

  • Wuh?

  • so if i don't have surround sound or a home theater what would be the better/cheaper option?

  • If you also don't want to record in HD, hava.

  • Intensity pro's are cheaper and better

  • If you have a quad core I7 and your own server.. Yes. otherwise, no.

  • i7 processor FTW, clocked to 3.8 :)

  • I have a quad i7, but not a server. Why would I need my own server?

  • You can't use BMIP to it's own potential... Your gonna have to compress it to 720p anyway and the renders will take longer.

  • Well if you mean that I need the server for storage, that's not a problem because I have an internal hard drive 1TB partitioned into two 500gb partitions, and a 1TB external NDAS hard drive. The RAM and VRAM wouldn't be a problem either; 12 GB of DDR3 and 1GB of VRAM (ATI Radeon 4850 HD).

  • I mean there is no website that hosts 1080p at moderately good codec quality.

  • Oh ok, thanks. I can view videos on YouTube in 1080i with the new beta test of adobe flash player. Maybe they will bring 1080p to YouTube in the future? Anyways, I can't afford this right now. :(

  • 1080i is actually less resolution than 720p at a single instance and should, in theory, be easier to stream.

  • Just because it is interlaced, right? So isn't 1080i just an up conversion of 720p?

  • Technically speaking, it's a down conversion because it only has 540 horizontal lines at any given time while 720p has 720 all the time.

However, picture-wise, it arguably has a higher resolution (Besides having some "tearing", I don't think we can notice the difference between progressive and interlaced)

  • most cheapest XD

  • Comment removed

  • 4:48 ... Good price?? This is the most expensive capture card.... soooo yeahhh.. wrong..

  • For what it is capable of doing, it is the cheapest capture card on the market. If you have a home theater system, you would regret getting anything else. If you don't, there are better options.

  • if you cant connect a hdmi cable how can you play in HD on the PS3 and record in HD??

  • I kind of explain it in the video... HDMI isn't the only "HD" source... It's just a media hype connector for the most part.

  • u cant connect an hdmi cable to this huh?

  • About a minute in, I state this and my opinions on people looking to record HDMI.

  • Will the sony vegas pro 9.0 free trial work?

  • Why wouldn't it?

  • how can i find out if i have a 2.0 Ghz dual core processor, 256 megabyte video card and 2 gigabytes of RAM?

  • Depends what operating system you have.

    In general --

Start --> right click my computer --> properties --> bottom right of default page

Video card specifically --> right click destop --> settings --> middle left side just under the monitors. and above the resolution.

  • Thanks mate also, do you know where i can buy sony vegas pro 8.0c? i can't seem to find it..

  • To be honest, not really... Sony Vegas 9.0 is the newest one.

  • So it'll work on the sony vegas pro 9.0?

  • Yes

  • Ok thanks mate

  • Also It almost costs as much as the system it self!

  • $200 is expensive for anyone who is 16 years of age... It's like one or two days of work...

If you have a home theater system, $200 is the least of your worries.

  • It's also expensive for poor people and people who can't just blow all there money on petty crap. $200. is not water for me sorry.

  • well, I have made videos for alternative solutions, and if you can afford an HDTV... This should be your only option. If you don't... This should never be your option.

Your original comment was worded like you were bashing people who bought it saying it's ludicrous to ever pay that much.

  • Oh no they can if they want especially if they have it. I just don't think that buying something that records your gameplay which no one cares about except you is worth paying $200. for. Only expressing my opinion. I have a recorder for this. I was searching for a few options for a friend and just stumbled upon this. I'm happy with the quality of my videos even though i suck at most video games I record.

  • As I said, if you have an HDTV and surround sound... You will hate yourself if you have anything else.

  • Dude as i said 'm happy with my quality. I don't need super high quality videos of something no one is gonna watch except me. The fact that i export these videos with HD settings in sony vegas is beyond. I don't even know why i do that.

  • Im just saying you are making it sound like people are retarded. Im saying that if you had a home theater setup, you couldn't live without this. Obviously you don't, so you don't need it =\

  • No actually I do. It was good for a while. It collects dust. I might wanna set it up again but right now it's just sitting there. I don't have an HDTV but i do have a home theater system. I do own tons of electronic equipment. I just don't buy things i don't deem useful enough for the price. I have a home recording studio to. I'm trying to get rid of some of this crap.

  • For recording games(Something that is close to pointless but just fun) $200. is expensive.

  • Blackmagic pro is 190 on amazon right now check it out before this goes id love to see some videos from you on it

  • Waste of money... It requires such a strong computer and the quality gets compressed to 720p anyway.

  • yeah thats what i figured thought id let you know anyways

  • and also HAVA gives you a 50 dollar discount when you buy it off the website

  • YOU said it wrong lmao

  • wat if u dont have a hd tv

  • i am running windows vista with parralles desktop is it possible to use it with that running

  • Yeah, this works natively on all windows and MAC os's

  • i hav another question about the hava. can u plug the ethernet into ur laptop or pc instead of the router and still record?

  • This isn't a HAVA video... HAVA doesn't work on Macs unless you virtualize windows.

You can only plug directly into a PC with the HAVA if you oh shit what was it... static IP the HAVA or something with a cross over cable (not an ethernet cable)

  • do u think if i bought an ethernet to usb adapter i could directly plug it in to the computer and it would wrk instead of the router

  • does hava work with mac?

i mean with a fusion or parallel on it

  • HAVA will only work with a mac if you dual-boot or virtualize it as far as I know. There are some primary windows specific things HAVA uses.

  • Oh shit, I thought this was my HAVA video... Yeah, this works natively on MAC OS

  • What I consider HD would be HDMi, I can afford the Intensity Pro but my computer cant handle it at 3 gigs of ram. Is there any other HDMI recorders?

  • Nope. HDMI recorders -- any of them -- require insane computer specification to run properly. You need high RPM drives, a lot of RAM, and four cores or more.

I highly recommend "downgrading" to component -- If you have a 42" TV or less, it is more or less impossible to notice the difference between 720p and 1080p. Also, with the hauppauge, you can still have 5.1 sound fidelity.

  • This works for video games

  • If that's a question, yes it does.

  • Can you play in SD while recording in HD?

  • No, but why not record HD while playing HD?

If you are suggesting you have an SD TV and you want to record in HD... You physically can't the way TV's are set up.

  • #@%!

Oh well, getting an HDtv for x-mas

  • w8 i am kind of confused so if you have a Standard Definition tv there is no possible way recording with the happauge

  • Yes there is. Some SD TV's do have component inputs (like all of mine), just the picture quality wouldn't be anything great.

Or, alternatively, you could buy the hauppauge if you know you're going to upgrade, and then set it up using the front composite jacks like you would a Dazzle. That way, instead of buying a dazzle and a hauppauge, you only need to buy the hauppauge.

  • whats better quality hava platinum or hava titanium?

  • They are the same.

  • Hey RoganSarine!

I have sold my HAVA HD and now im thinking of buying Hauppauge HD, is it a good idea? or maybe should i buy something else?

    Thanks!

  • If you have an HD TV, if you have surround sound system, if you have a strong computer, if you have the will to spend the money for the better youtube picture -- go for it.

As I've said, the HAVA and Hauppauge are basically the only two logical options. If you say yes to all the above "if's", than go for it.

  • I bought a black dazzle today because i have to have some money for Modern warfare 2, the dazzle isnt that bad too :P Thanks!

  • I have no idea why you'd switch them... But alright.

  • Switched what?

  • well im only 15 so im not working yet. i geuss i shall experience this phenomena of cash flow when im 16 or older....If this cash flow is true. then i may get one of these eventually. cause i frequently have my moments in CoD 4... (*no sarcasm included*)

  • why would you spend that much money first of all just for recording something....unless you're famous or something.

  • $200 is not very much money if you're working to be honest... And HD gives you way more options than SD -- to he his own.

It is also the only thing with optical pass through, so it's really your only option if you are using a surround sound system.

  • ONLY 200 DOLLARS!!!! WHAT A DEAL!!! *sarcasm*

  • Obviously you arnt good at comparing it to what else things cost.

  • What'd be the point? Yes, but you have to set it up like a DAzzle like I say in the video.

  • Great vid! I subbed! And a question...Does the format work with sony Vegas 9???

  • Yes

  • Thanks! And yet another question... Can I play live in 1080i and capture live in 1080i?

  • Yes

  • so i ordered this

and i was wondering would i need

a usb cord able to reach from my box to my comp cause mines is like 50 foot away

and if it does do you know where i can get one of those at ??

  • You can't really get a 50 foot USB cable without heavy signal drop off. You'd need 5 repeaters approximately which you can get at monoprice.

USB is only ceritifed to work at like 12 feet maximum or so, so for every time you pass 12 feet you'll need another repeater to keep the signal moderately strong.

I don't know if 5 repeaters would still get you decent quality, but you'd need it.

If your computer is that far away, you should have really not gotten the HD PVR and went with the HAVA.

  • What do do you mean by intel macs, sorry I do not know what that means.

  • Macs with intel processors... Within the last 2 years or so.

  • which do u think is better... Monsoon HAVA or this???

  • I kind of stated my opinion within the video. Please watch when I start comparing the two.

Other than that... I have had a lot of problems with the PVR in terms of corrupting my files, so it may give you headaches especially if you have long-winded binges where you record 4 hours of footage only to have it corrupted. (thankfully, I know how to recover the files, but I lose the sharpness of my quality)

  • i know how u feel when something doesn't go the way u wanted to be... when i bought my hava, i though it recorded in HD and when i recorded some gameplay from call of duty world at war for like 3 to 4 hours of gameplay, it didn't show in REAL HD and i got really mad at that because i though it recorded in HD but i guess Monsoon SUCKS BALLS and the decided to put HD on the logo of the HAVA (HAVA Platinum HD is the name of the HAVA that i bought)

  • I almost swore you messaged me and I said otherwise (corrected you). It also says that it only records D1 on every product page... HD just means it's HD compliant and since recording isn't a major feature... it doesn't record HD.

HD is just merely for placeshifting and passthrough :P It isn't advertised as a PVR, so it isn't incorrect marketing. As a placeshifter, it is perfectly acceptable.

I don't really find the recovering that bad, just know that it happens.

  • It's now why I have my hava also backup recording the same stuff incase I can't recover the file -- which I'm amazed I'm the only one with the non-recovery problem.

I've sent 2 support emails to Hauppauge and they're just ignored since I've sent them back 3 units (2 of which simply stopped connecting to my PC after having this problem for a couple months). The PVR was originally sent to me for free, so the repair costing me $30 everytime kinda blows, ha ha.

  • do u know what sucks??? buying a DAMN capture card that the name of it has the word HD on it and it dosen't record in real HD... i just realized that a week later after i bought my HAVA Platinum for $70 on ebay... right now i feel like im going through a depretion or something cause im really pissed off right now >:/ right now i dont have enough money to buy a new capture card like the one that u have so i can record in HD happily and with no probs... but i guess thats not gonna happened ;(

  • The pay off for double the price isn't really that much better. I wouldn't feel ripped off at all. I would never spend $200 on a capture card unless I was using a surround sound optical system.

Albeit, I can't say that my videos didn't say otherwise.

  • so would a dazzle be ok if you dont have an hd tv

  • No. Watch my other video.

If you are deadset on getting something from pinnacle studios... their pinnacle video transfer is cheaper and better than the dazzle.

  • ill look into it but i need something kind of cheap perferably under 100$ but i know that will be hard to find

  • does it come with software

  • Does what come with software? I dunno. Go to the manufac's website -- it should.

  • wuts that game at the end?

  • Condemned: Bloodshot. I have plans on making a better side-by-side comparison video because condemned isn't the BEST looking game, but I just don't have the time (and at the time... condemned was the only instant where I had the same footage from both devices)

  • oh ok. i only asked cuz it looks kinda cool.

also, this is a vid about HD, do u have windows vista? cuz i need windows movie maker 6 to make HD movies but i cant find a download

  • is the blitzbox ok?

  • Personally, going from pure footage I've seen of people using it, I don't find the recording quality quite as high as the HAVA and it's also priced a bit more. This could be from bad rendering settings of blitzbox users, but blitzcast is sure taking their sweet time sending me a review unit (About 1 year and 2 months). So right now, I only recommend it if you are not very tech savvy to follow instructions and want a dead-simple live stream capabilities instead of needing to use workarounds.
