When Chet Atkins use the words "hero" and "legendary" you know you're in the presence of a virtuoso guitar player. It's very unfortunate that Lenny got killed when he had so much more music to give to the world. Being a drug addict, I think there was a contract on his head for unpaid drug debt but that's just my opinion.
@GPHawk1 I was looking through my posts and found this...how weird because I never made this comment and it doesn't even make sense in context to the discussion....
These guys are both great, but I'm particularly fond of Lenny Breau. Check out the post-Coltrane diminished pattern Chet lays down in the intro of Sweet Georgia Brown. For a guy who called himself "CGP" (country guitar picker), he was a very worldly and sophisticated musician. Don't you miss these guys?!
Sunderlanding lenny is the most difficult style and the best but if you watch these 3 shows you'll admit Dannys playing ranks with anyone:88 Birchmere, 88 Club Soda, and 88 Gallaghers. mastercollector
No you are wrong, Lenny was strangled by his wife also no traces of drugs were found in his body. Even his 7 string guitar was not stolen so his death had nothing to do with money or drugs. You should get your facts straight before posting something like that.
kenwellz Danny Gatton, and Lenny Breau played the Cellar Door in DC 4-25-79; its great.Gatton is easily the most spectacular player ever and not even close. And he's not my faveorite but Breau, Scotty Anderson, and Wes could be the best.mastercollector
It is too bad lenny got into the drugs. He was very highly regarded by jazz, classical, country players. His mastery of harmony could humble the most accomplished jazz players.
Muzikman74, theres NOTHING to be sorry about this 5th generation peice...the sound of 2 masters creating music together is there its a shame not many people know about lenny even to this day.
Chet and Lenny doing Sweet Georgia Brown is the song that inspired Tommy Emmanuel to start with his own version of harp harmonics... THANKS FOR SAVING THIS AND SHARING IT... definite history on film! :-)
6:58 is a good example of the harp harmonics... Lenny was a true guitar pioneer... too bad drugs got hold of him, no telling how good he would be today! :-(
you're absolutely correct! It's funny, I'm just learning TE's version of "somewhere over the rainbow", aww man, it's rare to hear something so beautiful...
Very nice... I've never seen this clip and I have a BOAT load of rare and unreleased Lenny. Glad to see there's more out there. No need to apologize for the quality. I'm just glad to see the material out there for all to see and hear.

That's CGP "Certified Guitar Player". He used it in his signature like MBA or PHD. He really had a sense of humor.

Miss them dearly. Awesome musicians. These two were so close. Chet talked about Lenny so fondly. Like a son.

all of the players listed are good in their own right. I'm sick of people comparing guitar players. It's like apples to oranges.
