The good thing about burning flags is that most of them are cheap Chinese made pieces of junk anyway, lol. A Koran or a Bible is gonna set you back like 10 dollars! :-p
"flag burning/burning holy books are barbaric and ignorant." People have been doing this for centuries, burning effigies, braws, books, etc. to express their dislike or disrespect for something, whether it be a king, a country or a religion. The act itself really isn't hurting anyone is it, while it may be ignorant, it's people expressing themselves. Burning an actual person is barbaric not a piece of cloth or paper. The barbaric acts are the events that caused these people to want to do this.
Bibles sent by a church in the United States were confiscated about a year ago at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan because military rules forbid troops of any religion from proselytizing while deployed there, Lt. Col. Mark Wright said. Troops at posts in war zones are required to burn their trash(Bibles), Wright said. So our military even burns bibles, interesting...
Ya know who I really feel sorry for, Is all of the Agnostic/Ahteists in the Arab world who have to pretend they are Muslims and want to burn a Koran, but can't because the Religous government leaders will chop they're heads off for it. I wonder even in more enlightened countries of the Islamic world, what the consequences of rejecting Islam is. I'm not one to tolerate intolerance myself, from Christians, Muslims or anyone else. I think showing blatent disrespect for some things is healthy.
You can not be a just judge. You logic is illogical because burning a flag is protesting or insulting a country while burning a Quran is insulting all Muslims that reside in all countries of the world including America. You are comparing apples and oranges. You should compare the Quran with the bible and a flag of a country with a flag of another country.
@19volvocar I disagree. If it is equally offensive to the person whose holy book or whose flag is being burned, it is the same thing. The one is just as barbaric and ignorant and pointless as the other.
If it wasn't offensive to burn the US flag, those mobs we see in the news wouldn't be doing it. If it wasn't offensive to burn the Qur'an, Pastor Terry Jones wouldn't be doing it.
It's not up to you or me to tell someone else how to be offended (or not).
@Anekantavad So, your wife doesn't like your mustache?

That kinda makes me wanna say, "No shit Sherlock" lol. But apparently these folks just are quite as quick as you... Are they Sherlock? err... Andy. ^_-
burning some artifact in my ownership is just a frank gesture of what i feel... should i not burn a book like hitlers "mein kampf" or flag with swastika?... is it really act of barbarism?
@Anekantavad take my example with swastika burning set in times before wwii... i could be opposed how irresponsible it would be to provoke nazis by such a demonstration of contempt for their ideology/creed... on the other hand it can serve some awakening awareness of the danger... there is always a dilemma if it would be contra-productive... this cant be solved in advance... future will show...
@Anekantavad i can agree that Islam is in great part just a life style but doomed to be harshly questioned for very hostile deeds done in name of it in recent decades... average westerners who have no idea of sensitivities of average Muslims are neighbours now... even if politicians are polite with the issue it tend to be perceived like cowardice of public person which adds to tension begging for relief in rude manner... (i am still playing devils/masses advocate)
@neskuma I think it's simply that the US public and the west in general is very edgy about terrorism. We have a gigantic fixation on the issue, even though individually we'd be a lot better advised to worry about cholesterol or a car accident.
OTOH, the Islamic world is fixated upon Israel/Palestine and issues of defamation, where they would be much better off concentrating on poverty, education, democracy and modernization.
We're both of us really barking up the wrong tree.
@Anekantavad i think it is fallacy of ambiguity to say book burning is what Nazis do... moustache wearing is what Hitler did... but OK i see you do not appreciate it in this particular case... for me it is hard to invent some less messy but yet powerful advertisement of the problem with Islam followers...
Not a friendly message by any means, don't get me wrong.
However when blond haired and red bearded Christians are allowed to spread throughout Arabian countries, building their OWN religious shrines wherever they go (and it won't be the desert, but the cities) and demand that the Arabs turn their countries into secular democracies, then we can discuss equality. Cut it off, before it grows.
Don't focus on Korans', they are relatively harmless. No need to burn them. Worry about the followers.
Here is the thing about the people who get pissed about flag burning. I know some of these people, I know how they are. They don't want peace, they aren't going to stop being racist, ignorant and stupid, they already assume burning old glory is what people do every day in the Arab world anyway. There is no reason to take some "lets all hold hands and sing Kombiah and we can all get along" way of thinking with these people. It's not going to work, they won't care, they'll still want war.
Well, personally, I don't care if people do what they want to the Qur'an. They'll be judged by God in the afterlife, not just because of being destructive to his word, but because they are destroying learning, destroying literature, destroying ideas.
I'm sure the first words God would ask about it would be: "Did you read it?"
@onlywhenprovoked I have no obligation to respond to a bigot such as yourself. You are no less deranged than Condell, thunderf00t or any other fanatic.
@mikailusmaximus Who am I being a bigot against? God? I can't even make sense of your reaction. All I said was that God wouldn't need to ask you what you did or didn't do. By very definition, God would know what you did, long before you did it.
@onlywhenprovoked How about the reason God would ask you would be not for himself but for you to figure out your own actions. And no, not bigotry against God.
@mikailusmaximus We could go back and forth all day speculating what god would or wouldn't do, or if he does or doesn't exist.... but that still doesn't answer the question....
Where is this bigotry you accuse me of? Or is that just what you call everyone who has a different opinion of what god would or wouldn't do?
I didn't insult you. There was no need to name-call, like a child. You seem very angered and intolerant of my opinion of God, because it doesn't agree with your opinion of God.
"bigot - A person obstinately and unreasonably wedded to a particular religious creed, opinion, or practice; a person blindly attached to an opinion, system, or party, and bitterly intolerant of those who believe differently."
@onlywhenprovoked Okay, enough of your jumping to conclusions. You think I thought you insulted me. No, that's not true, so stop stuffing words into my mouth and leave me alone.
@mikailusmaximus I didn't say I think you thought anything. I said I didn't insult you, so there was no need to call me names and act like a bitch. You are the one putting words in my mouth, and avoiding the real point of the conversation.

I've met bastards like you and you are a threat to civilization itself. Now please, sir, do be a good boy and harass some religious fanatics that really deserve it.
@onlywhenprovoked I'm sure you'd be first admonished for your terrible punctuation and spelling errors. Now shut up and piss off. This thread belongs to the video of a very nice man from my fellow country.
@mikailusmaximus Good luck pressing charges. They'll tell you to stop responding to me, and to grow a thicker skin or get off the internet. The only one harassing you, is the idiot that keeps making me reply.

@onlywhenprovoked You are paranoid, bigoted and looking for a fight with anyone who disagrees with you. What you just said about me "threatening to violate TOS" is fucking false because no such threat was ever said and you're making shit up to feed your ego. Now piss off.
@mikailusmaximus Oh just stop. You've already revealed your bigotry, your homophobia, your political partisanship, your nationalism, and your ignorance.
Go ahead and try to get me suspended. You will have to answer for your own comments once that happens. Not just the ones you made to me, but the hundreds of insults I see here on google that you post on a regular basis.
@mikailusmaximus Hey, you're the one that used tea bagger as an insult. There's no getting around what you meant. You would have said Tea Party if you weren't trying to make a gay insult out of it.
Or perhaps you're just too slow to get the meaning of those words.
I've never burnt a flag myself, but now that I think about it, September 11th is a great day to burn one. I say that because that day was beginning of the end of the America that many of us did believe in. And that's not because of the terrorist attack, it's because of how our government and people reacted to it, the Politicians and the Government they represent used 9/11 to do what they wanted to do and now there are hundreds of thousands more dead for no reason. I don't respect the flag.
You know what kind of Americans really care about the flag being burnt? The kind of people who don't really understand what the idea of America really means, they just see the flag as they're gang colors, it's just a symbol that shows what team they are on. That's all it represents to the mostly Christian, ignorant, angry mob of Americans in the bible belt/heartland who this kind of thing actually offends. Those people are the backwash of this nation, I could care less about offending them.
@Anekantavad never!!! just a pleasant wee canook i am glad you picked up on it however, i wondered if the media in the US may have avoided the imagery given heightened sensitivitys. and i thought the issue couldn't get any more ridicules.
Would I be correct in assuming by your tone of voice and presentation style in this video that you feel people who burn sacred cows for the sake of pissing people off are...hmmmm... Childish?
I like how you turn towards the muslim extremists who burn flags now that the Quran burner has been marginalized. this shows your evenhandedness and sense of reciprocity. Now that so many Americans have spoke out against Quran burning (while supporting the right to do so) I hope you can capitalize on the respect you've earned amongst muslims to now get them to critque those who burn flags. kudos sir.
@deejin25 With any luck, both sides have learned something from this. No doubt many Americans didn't quite grasp just how offensive burning a Qur'an is until this delightful little incident brought it to their attention. And likewise, burning the Stars and Stripes has become such a routine affair in some Muslim countries that people seem desensitized to how deeply offensive it is to many Americans.
Being a Muslim and an American must be a bit rough round about now.
I agree. I don't consider the flag as sacred but I know that people do. How about we discuss our problems like rational beings instead of setting things ablaze.
Instead of burning the Qur'an, it needs to be exposed. That might destroy more Qur'ans than that Pastor was about to burn.

Childish?

@TheHeather1985 Yeah ... I'd say that is a pretty good précis of my feelings round about now.

@rationalwarrior Exactly. This isn't exactly humanity's proudest moment, is it?

@Anekantavad Not even close.
