Louis is so much smarter than the people around him it's a little scary. Even the guards look like they are operating on nearly the same level as the inmates, only less savage. They obviously don't care at all about the inmate on inmate abuse. I have to wonder what they're like with the cameras turned off. It was strange watching a decent, moral man walking among a building full of people who act like animals.

Did you notice the way he articulated his thoughts. He didn't seem like an animal at all. When Louis asked about the fact that most of those men are technically innocent, and yet are subjected to those conditions, it made me think that the reason conditions are like that is because they have to be. Just watch "Las Vegas Jailhouse" to see how different it can be.

I think the authorities must view the prison "code" as something desirable to be sort of a self governing mechanism so they don't need to spend money on a prison system with more structure, focused on rehabillitation.
Schools should be showing these sort of shows to all teens...as a deterrent....most kids only see prison through the eyes of Hollywood movies, watching the real thing really doesn't make prison life feel admired or cool, just damn scary. How many people have died to fight for freedom, but these people have just blown theirs away...for what exactly?

The more I watch Louis Theroux documentaries, the more I respect him. I think the authorities must view the prison "code" as something desirable to be sort of a self governing mechanism so they don't need to spend money on a prison system with more structure, focused on rehabillitation.

Schools should be showing these sort of shows to all teens...as a deterrent....most kids only see prison through the eyes of Hollywood movies, watching the real thing really doesn't make prison life feel admired or cool, just damn scary. How many people have died to fight for freedom, but these people have just blown theirs away...for what exactly?

There is no way you can feel that he deserves leniency. I understand in this microcosm, where louis successfully teases out the vulnerability in his nature, you may feel empathy. But it's totally unwarranted. If he did this to your family would you feel the same way ?

But if I really think about it I wouldn't feel better killing him or knowing he was getting messed up on a daily basis. It wouldn't make up for what he did. 20 years in prison takes your life away in a far more devastating way.

I just find it alarming that someone can think of this guy as vulnerable when he is willing to empty a gun into a car. He is far from being the vulnerable guy who is not cut out for prison life. Anyone who is willing to do that, would do it again. He doesn't deserve to live in society I wouldn't want someone like that in my neighbourhood.

The more I watch Louis Theroux documentaries, the more I respect him. Not only is he extremely brave to put himself in these situations but he always shakes people's hands and presents himself with an open unbiased attitude. Mr. Theroux is definitely an under rated journalist, would be cool to see him team up with Anderson Cooper and do more stories on people.

I agree with the hard labor. People, locked in a fucking cage will fight. Jail is boring people need to be kept busy otherwise it ends up like this. Put inmates to work, hard manual labor. They might even learn a trade so they don't have a hopeless life when and if they ever are released back into general life.

I agree, you just have to see how many zoo animals locked up in habitats too small for them behave. A lot end up suffering with mental disorders. Human beings aren't going to behave locked up like that, they need stimulation...hard labor and learning a trade is where it should begin...let them feel like they can be of some worth to society and at the same time doing a hard days work. Maybe the jail starting a business, and profits goes towards better facilities.
