Nolan's Batman movies actually make you think while watching it. Batman is not a typical goody-two-shoe like Gandalf, Aragon, Bilbo, Frodo, Sam, etc. and Catwoman and Bane are not "evil overlords" like Sauron or Saruman. I say, FUCK GOOD VS EVIL FANTASY! So my vote goes to The Dark Knight Rises!

The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings are dull fantasy stories about good vs evil (Fuck both elves and orcs, why can't there be good orcs who get slaughtered by elves in the name of so-called "justice"? And Sauron is the worst villain ever, because that wannabe is just evil for the sake of being evil!) which is purely subjective, whereas The Dark Knight Rises, like its predecessors, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, deals with serious moral ambiguity.

I don't have a preference between the two; the LOTR films got me to read the books, and from there on I started reading other books as well so I am indebted to LOTR for that. On the other hand I think Nolan's films are refreshing in that they mix both independent and blockbuster films together into one, which is definitely something other directors need to do as well. People moaning about the dark Knight Rises should wait for the film to come out..maybe some of their criticisms will be gone.
