  • We need him now.

  • Astounding! My favourite Irish player and this demonstrates why ;D

  • Geoghegan: legend

  • another true, great essex man

  • A great player. Could have done with him last night.

  • Would still walk onto the current Irish team, way ahead of his time

  • Hoofed in a controlled way?

  • He was years ahead of his time.. what a player.. career cut short by a toe problem !

  • one of the most under celebrated and underused irish player ever

  • Of course it was a penalty by geoghegan, i remember crying out in frustration when he flopped down on Andrew, but being plesently amazed when the ref gave ireland the decision!

But frankly Ireland needed all the help the could get at the time and it helped us win so ill live with the mistake!!

And geoghegan deserved every decision he got due to the magnificent effort he put into every performance...LEGEND

  • when tackled you must release the ball.. simple.

  • fastest white man in history!!!!!!!!

  • lol

do you think that he runs like an octopus would run if it could run?

    maybe it's just me...

  • not true but possibly the fastest white man in rugby history

  • wrong decision but who cares? it was agains england. . . . .

  • @slightlyphsyco nah it was the right decision, back then you didnt have to let the man up after hes dived on a kick

  • scandalous decision from the ref. I still remember watching that game.

  • i suppose its fair to say he has a bit of speed

  • So he has to tackle him, let him get back ip. What does he do then- tackle him again and let him get back up again? And so on.

  • its because he dived on the loose ball he has to be allowed back on his feet then he can be tackled.

  • You must alow the player back on his feet?! WTF!

  • Obvious penalty to England. Having said that I was at the game and Ireland deserved to win. England were crap that day.

  • Should have been a penalty to Engalnd, Geoghegan didnt let andrew get up

  • You don't have to allow the player get to his feet. Nothing in the rules about that.

  • well clearly you dont know the rules!!1

  • Well clearly I do! There is nothing in the rules that says a player must not stop a player getting to his feet. Player goes to ground to contest the ball, Geoghegan gets back on his feet, plays the ball. Textbook stuff and would have survived todays even stricter interpretations.

  • ooo touchy, but seriously you must allow the player back on his feet.

  • what are you talking about?

you're saying, after you tackle a player you have to let him up!? If that was the case there would be no rucks.

All Geoghegan was doing is to try to get the ball off Andrew who was in possession of it, in which case you dont have to leave him up.

  • no that's not what he means!

if the ball is loose...like then, when the were chasing it after it had been kicked, if a player drops on the ball like Andrew did you have to allow the player back to their feet before making any contact with them!

  • this was before that law was introduced re allowing the player 2 get 2 their feet

  • no ithat the lkaw back in 1994. I was at Twickers that day that and it was a big talking point at the time

  • I remember the TV guys saying the same thing.

  • Rob Andrew is some wanker. shouldve stamped his face in while he was down there. Take that you C***

  • Great player though. If only he had been around in the noughties instead of the nineties.

  • what do you mean "these days" it would be a penalty.....I was at this game at Twickers in 1994...it was a penalty back then as well. It was a big talking point after the game as Ireland won by less than 3 points.

  • MY LAST NAME IS GEOGHEGAN

  • snap lol

  • Simon Geoghegan. Is that you. Amaechi Okobi saying hello. Remember 1.79?

  • no no

    im not simon geoghegan

    im a parent of him

    ok?

im from argentina but my last name is geoghegan

ive got parents from ireland and one of them is simon geoghegan

  • Give the man a potatoe.

  • 20 ledge points there.

  • these days that would be a straight out penalty AGAINST ireland for diving on the player on the ground. Amazing how the laws have changed.

  • i remember people saying the same thing at the time.

  • "These days"...actually that was the law at the time in 1994 when this game was played. He had to let Andrew get up before tackiling him.

  • O beate mi Edmunde

  • since when does a tackle constitute falling on top of someone who is on the floor.

  • What a legend!!!
