The actions of the opposition clearly worked, as the government backed down with their hopelessly designed Friday sittings.
The Deputy Speaker is a bitch!!! Speaker Jenkins ruled that props "weren't encouraged put permitted" in the House. I can't see how the cut-out was offensive in any way. GET A SENSE OF HUMOUR LABOR!!!

And when it comes to this idea of lack of accountability, it's not as though there is less question time than usual- it's just that there is no question time on this extra day of parliament.

I feel absolutely cheated and deceived after seeing that video. How much more of our tax payer's money will be spent on stupid articles like these? being on salaries of $500,000+ they behave in these disgusting ways. For conduct being broken in society and the community, we are panelised and law making bodies such as parliament, they are not following orders and are acting childish. The opposition of the House of Representatives should feel ashamed!

these guys are a bunch of dicks. Rudd was out fulfulling the promise he had made on behlaf of (the decenst part of) Australia to the Aboriginies, and what do the Liberals, the guys who led this country for eleven years, do? They act like a bunch of 12 year olds. They're despicable. How anyone can even consider defending their actions is beyond me.

Rudd's prmise wasnt to avoid accountability. He is accountable throught the parliament, not through Aboriginal visits. This was a Friday, he could have made his visit on the Saturday, the Sunday OR the entire next week- it was a non-sitting week. The actions of the opposition clearly worked, as the government backed down with their hopelessly designed Friday sittings.

The Deputy Speaker is a bitch!!! Speaker Jenkins ruled that props "weren't encouraged put permitted" in the House. I can't see how the cut-out was offensive in any way. GET A SENSE OF HUMOUR LABOR!!!

I doubt that - she specifically referred to him as the Member for Werriwa, I would think the Deputy Speaker would have a fair idea of who is who. Plus it doesn't really sound like he says that anyway...

Kevin Rudd doesn't need 'stunts' to drive up his polls when the opposition carry on like children. This is a shining example of the depths a party can sink to, when they give up on trying to portray themselves as respectable politicians. Disregarding the 9% of thoroughbred Liberals who still support Brendan Nelson.

I actually supported the Liberals when Howard was still leader, but this is pathetic. I don't care what point they were trying to make but this was not the way to execute it. There was blatant disrespect for the speaker and I don't want to play the sexist card but I think the fact that she was a woman did not help.

This was not about Rudd not turning up. Howard would rarely turn up to backbenchers' sessions. This is about them having to come in for an extra day without getting question time. It's a pretty childish and hypocritical strategy being used by the opposition.
And when it comes to this idea of lack of accountability, it's not as though there is less question time than usual- it's just that there is no question time on this extra day of parliament.
